As Russian said, the body may not be released by then; but some form of tribute to David Hookes from the game would be a good idea.Originally posted by pazza
I'd like to make this suggestion
Seeing as Victoria are scheduled to meet SA at the G from Friday, and that Hookesy would prefer to see the game being played, wouldn't it make sense to have a hearse go around the G on Friday or the weekend, so the fans can pay tribute to him?

Again my deepest sympathies to the Hookes family and to everyone who loved him.
I don't know if this has already been mentioned (my computer's having a fit, so I can't go read past messages atm) so if I'm repeating a suggestion apologies - but I'd love to see a David Hookes Cup game between SA and Vic happen outside the Pura Cup Season with proceeds going to a charity chosen by the Hookes family or the Cricket Academy...

Yes, I suggested it earlier in the thread (or in another one) but it seems like a fitting tribute to the man. I'd make all Sheffield Shield clashes between the sides for the Hookes Cup, after all it was the Shield he loved so much.

I write this post with a heavy heart.
Just after 7.30 p.m tonight on the way home from the gym, in my car with the sun and wind on my face, i heard that David Hookes had lost his fight for life.
A man of 48. To many of you an age that is decades away, or the age of your parents, but from someone closer to Davids age than many of you, it really tends to make me question my own mortality, and absolute good fortune that there by the grace of god go I.
At 20 y.o you are gunna live for ever, at 30, death is something that happens to someone else, at 40, it is something that becomes more prevelant. When a contemporary is killed it becomes almost personal.
Sorry to carry on, but the death of Hookes is something we all should learn from. Our life is so fleeting and fragile, go to work, the footy, a pub, down the shops and you may not come back. Hit your head and you could just end it all in seconds.
Never take your life for granted, never presume that death happens to someone else, and enjoy every second you have on this planet.
And enjoy the sun on your face and wind in your hair while you can.
David Hookes, your death is such a sensless waste.
May you rest in peace.

RIP David Hookes.
Although I didn't always agree on his views, it was hard not to admire the way he always said what he felt and his passion for the game.
Thoughts with his family and friends.
