Just heard the terrible news. I think he was expected to last 3 years and he had 13. Even though it was inevitable still feels a shock. RIP Neale.
Incredible how long he was able to keep fighting. Fell in love with the Dees with him as coach, will be sadly missed by many.

Fought on for so much longer than you could have ever expected, but it still hurts just as much all the same.

Rest easy, Rev. From your iconic celebrations and wicked sense of humour, to the indelible mark you've made on our footy club, to the incredibly brave, selfless and inspiring work you've done with FightMND – you'll be missed dearly.

A hero in so many ways.

Bloody sucks man. You knew it'd get him eventually but holding on for 13 years is extraordinary.

Such a big part of so many people's childhoods, whether it was playing for essendon in the 80s or like me watching him coach us later on.

This club has had far too many good people taken way too early, but that's life I guess.

I am stunned.
The great man fought MND right until the bitter end.
Words escape me at this time.
All I will say is Rest In Peace Rev.

RIP Neale.

Some of my best football memories are watching the demons during his coaching stint. Like his fight with MND he kept fighting back.

I remember it was every 2nd year it would seem Melbourne were back down the ladder but he'd get them to bounce back to top 4 the following year.

Coached brilliantly in 2000 and the wins over Carlton and North that finals series were peak during that time. Unfortunately Essendon were cheating the Salary cap during that period so a flag escaped him, but thrilled that he fought long enough to see the drought eventually broken.

What he did for the MND will never be forgotten and his legacy will live on as the tradition he started continues to go from strength to strength.
