Been a big fan of these guys for a few years and just did a search to find there's not been much said about them. Quite like their new album Appeal To Reason. It's a bit flat at stages, but the killer tracks are really good - you get that with Rise Against.

I can't listen to Hero Of War enough times. I'm usually not big on ballads amongst heavier albums, but for as soft as this melody, is the lyrics are as powerful as I reckon I've heard. It's a good account of the innocence of young soldiers going overseas for combat and the horrors they end up becoming a part of.

Anyone going to their show when they come out in March?

Rise Against are a solid band IMO.
There latest album Appeal To Reason is listenable without being memorable.
Liked there 2004 Siren Song of the Counter Culture a lot more but hey I have Appeal To Reason in my cars 6 stacker so it cant be all bad.

Might check em out when they come out:thumbsu:

Saw them in a small venue in Adelaide when they last came out here and it was a pretty nuts gig. Still havent gotten the new album yet but will shortly and I am def seeing them when out here next. Are playing Thebby in Adelaide compared to Fowlers last time so they seem to be getting quite popular.

Paperwings. Tune.

revolutions per minute used to be played over and over when i was fully into punk.

it's still a pretty good album, if you were checking out rise against...i'd start with that one.

Yeah, Revolutions per Minute is a great album that gets played a lot by me, even though I don't listen to a whole lot of new punk.

Great avatar. This is one of the bands I hear a fair bit of and I don't mind but I'm too lazy to really bother giving it a proper go. Might have to investigate.

I read on here in another thread before I listened to Appeal To Reason that it was a disappointing album so I was a bit fearful because Rise Against is my favourite non-horn band.

Pleasantly surprised. Not as good as Siren Song or RPM but definitely on a par with Sufferer.

Trying to find from friends to go to the Festival Hall gig with, however Rise Against is a band I'd happily go see by myself so either way I'll be there.

Torches is my favourite song of theirs, BTW.

torches is an awesome song.

I think their best two were RPM and Siren Song, followed by Suffer and the Unraveling. Havent got the latest yet.

Favourite songs are torches, blood red white and blue, to them these streets belong and maybe rumours of my demise.

Surely somoene would mention Swing Life Away in quality songs. Fantastic song.

I saw them a couple years back, I'd definately go this time except I'm in the states.
Songs like Give it All, Read to Fall, etc really go off live

You wont hear anything 'cutting edge' Jabso but they are melodic enough and very listenable without hitting euphoric heights.

Joe Principe makes this band.
His bass patterns are a thing of beauty.

I think Siren Song of the Counter Culture was their best album.

As for the new album, it's okay.
Has a few superb moments, but also some genuine 'filler' tracks.

Listened to Revolutions Per Minute and it's a very good listen, but I agree with what you said. I feel the same way about Pennywise tbh.

Yeah Pennywise just lack something IMO.
When all my mates were into Pennywise I was listening to Propagandhi, Sick of it all and of course Bad Religion.
All better choices I think:thumbsu:

Agreed.. they sparkled and faded with their early work...
Longevity in a bands creativity is a very rare trait.
You can talk up a bands evolution all you want but very few produce quality for their whole career.:thumbsu:

I don't know about that, even their best albums I can't really get excited about. Live they were awesome though. I'm just not a huge fan of them all together.
