There are some VERY interesting options for Fremantle players in the Rising Star betting. Whilst Swallow would have to be the standout favourite at $2.75 I couldnt help but notice the lack of Fremantle players in the lower price ranges.

Interesting....... Very Interesting!

Justin Bollenhagen 101.00
Jesse Crichton 101.00
Viv Michie 251.00
Peter Faulks 501.00
Josh Mellington 501.00

Some excellent for for thought, especially considering players like Crichton could break into the team in a permanent position and Faulks is the natural replacement for Taz. I know that these awards just about always go to midfielders but if Swallow does not cut it for whatever reason it is nice to have Freo players in the running!

Mitch Duncan is a surprising 2nd favourite. Shuey and Gaff both look pretty good value at $11

Faulks would be a good bet.....

....if he was eligible.

He's not.

Well that makes the odds that Sportsbet are offering completely unfair!

If that is the case you will get a refund!!! LOL So he played 0 games for Sydney and is 22 at the start of the season.

You are correct. Under 21 at the age of January 1. Damn, would have been value!

Bollenhagen would be our best placed player. I think he's going to have a ripper of a year!

I think Crichton is good value at $101. Plays in the right positions to win it and has some experience. Maybe not high-profile enough though and that's probably why all our youngsters are at long odds.

Menzel?! wtf, bugger off.

Hamish Shep at $101 seems a little strange too considering some names between $200-500..

I thought the same thing Nickos. I honestly think that a lot of the people doing the odds are working on the time on the list with teams like Freo. They dont know the players in depth or know the likelihood of them breaking into the squad. I would have honestly thought that Shepp would very much struggle to play an AFL game in 2011.

That is why guys like Bollenhagen $101.00, Crichton $101 and Viv Mitchie @ $251-1 represent value . Either way, interesting way to perhaps get on some talent early on and lay off down the track.

Must be a Geelong supporter doing the odds. Mitch Duncan and Daniel Menzel equal second faveourite is pretty ridiculous even though they both do seem like pretty decent young players.
If they get enough games, it's easier to look good with a lot of support around you. Duncan is a good player.

I don't get this. He's quite hyped after last season. He had a great season, but will struggle to make the starting 21 in a fully fit freo team.

If he plays like he played in the 4 odd games he played at the end of last season then he will be in the 21/22. And if this lasts for the full season he would be a shot for the RS award I'd imagine.

When are teams ever fully fit though? We have 3 or 4 players who won't be ready round one and it's still 2 months away.

Nah third year players have as much chance as Brain Lake winning the Brownlow. You could argue Gartlett was as good as Hanneberry last year but he was never in serious consideration.

Best money is on some of the GC yougsters who were drafted last year and have had a full season in system. I like Josh Toy for best value.

I'm a fan of Shep's (have had him in this year's and last year's buddy drafts) but even I can't understand those odds for him. Of the Freo players listed (assuming Tendai is ineligible, as I can't see him), I reckon Crichton, Bolly, Sibo and Mellington are the most likely to deliver value - they won't win it, but if injuries and form allow them to get a run in the team they may come in the top 15 or 20 votes wise...

I reckon Sandi and Pav are value for teh Brownlow again, Mundy and Hilly are great options, and as a smoky I'd be plonking some dosh down on Broughton...

Broughton has got to paint a target on his head to get noticed by the umps if he is any chance. He has only recieved 3 brownlow votes in his career so far!
The quiet acheiver... just like Mundy. 125 games or so for a measly 9 votes.
Pav and Sandi take too many votes of other players, but somehow either of them haven't come close yet to taking Charlie home :(

Depends if his work ethic is up to scratch. It's not a lack of talent that will keep him out of the side.

This here. He cannot play a midfield role and is really a small forward who leads well. I doubt he and Chris Mayne, Hayden B., and Matt De Boer can all fit in the one team. I'd advise any money staying away from Son Son.

Whats your reasoning that he cant play midfield?

I think that his reason is that Son Son is a slight player by comparison with monsters like Hodge, Mitchell and Lewis that he would be facing in the NAB. My greater concern would be this nasty little run of injuries that he has been getting lately. His evasive skills are going to have to be 100% if he is to be as effective as he can be. He is not big enough to be playing with a knee/ankle that is not 100%
