Who (when fully fit) do you think is more pivotal to our team's success?

I just had a debate with a mate where I started off strong for Rivers and him McLean, but by the end we were pretty much even on both so just after other opinions.

Think we have to realise that we can't rely on Rivers being around anymore. Recurring injuries which don't look like going away means that the most we can do is pray he stays fit.

Mclean is different as both of his season-ending injuries have been unrelated and he seems to have fully recovered from both. No reason why he can't stay fit this season. Also, Brock is a leader and our future captain. Therefore I vote Brock.

Hard to tell having seen so little of Rivers with the rest of our young defence.

I'd argue that if Garland and Martin come on in '09, then McLean is probably more important than Rivers.

As good as Rivers is, he's still reliant on the midfield. If you've got a shiit midfield, the backline will always be paddling upstream. Hence Mclean is more important.

This thread makes me depressed. =[

Have the two of them ever played in 10 consecutive matches together?
I actually had to look that up... and the answer's never!

The most they've stringed together is 8 at the beginning of the 2006 season, and another 8 games at the end which included the 2 finals...

I think people are forgetting how good Rivers actually is. If i remember correctly, the last season were he played the majority of games (2006) he was 1st or 2nd in the comp in spoils. I know its cliched but we really are a 5 goal better side with a fully fit Rivers in the side.

So in answer to the OP, Rivers if fully fit, otherwise Mclean.

FULLY FIT! Rivers, but not by much. Brock is more than just a good mid for us because he lifts the whole team when he's up and going but I'd rather an excellent CHB, particularly given the state of our back line for the last...... well for my whole life apart from the odd year here and there.

Can't wait to win the flag in a few :thumbsu:

definitely rivers. The question was who is more pivotal to our success, and whilst mclean is a gun power forwards have a handy knack of demolishing our weak defenders.

A fit and firing rivers makes life that much easier

When rivers plays it seems like we don't need him. Whenever we need him he is injured lol.
