Rnd 3 Changes vs GWS

Trying not to get too far ahead of myself; sport throws up some crazy results and some on here will look pretty silly if the GWS give a good account of themselves.

No unnecessary changes for me.

OUT - Embley
IN - Stevenson

Play him on the wing or as the sub; doesn't have to be limited to a HBF and I've been very impressed with his form.

Woosh wont take GWS or Sheedy lightly.

We'd be the laughing stock of the AFL if we lose this.

Do what we have to do and then move on.

Dont need ridiculous % boosters, just stick to game plans, structures etc.

Happy to have a win of any margin.

We barely beat GC last year at home and it was one of the worst feelings I've ever had in regards to a game that we've won. Was right up there with our win against Essendon in 2007.

Two changes this week

Out: Embley and Kerr

In: Stevenson and Stevens/Swift

Why not see what Newman can do was a star today. 12 inside 50's. Neates also very good but can only play one, maybe two kicked 4 goals.

Brennan played very well two weeks in a row now.

Lycett has been very solid all year, kicking goals ect which he will be spending a bit of time forward.

Surely Stevens is another that has deserved a game, you dont want him getting annoyed at never playing. Same with Sheppard and Stevenson deserves a gig.

Whats the point in travelling with Glass, Waters, A.Selwood, Cox, Kerr and Embley why not play the above 6 instead of them, you guys will still win and win easily.

Because there is no such thing as a guaranteed win.

Imagine not playing your best 22 and losing. Very unprofessional, and very un-WCE like.

Have you seen GWS play? They are a bunch of kids with no structure. It is like an u21 team playing an u16 team.

If we can't win with half of our best 22 out then it is disgraceful and we shouldn't be a top 4 side.

Pre-seasons are very full on these days so while it may be week 3, they have had quite a bit of work put into them, we should rest some of the vets.

Any number of A Selwood, Cox, Glass, Kerr etc could/should be rested IMO.

They are an AFL team regardless, hence worthy of the same respect as the other 16 opposition clubs, and this early in the season resting players shouldn't matter anyway.

When one of the other teams kicks 0.3 in the first half or a game, has the youngest ever average age to take the field, a rugby convert with a dozen games of football, not even all AFL, experience, and is widley held by all as paying overs at $1.01 for the spoon, then, and only then, could you actually pay them the same respect as the other 16.

Resting players always matter, the monitor the minutes they do on the track in November, ten months prior to the finals, this continues all year, with every minute of ground time noted. It all adds up.

Do not, and I repeat DO NOT rest players, West Coast aren't at the stage of Geelong, Hawthorn or Collingwood yet where they can rest key players and think they can still get a comfortable victory, take a full strength team to GWS and destroy them, I'll be god dammed if West Coast are the first team to lose to these guys because they left players home and were over confident

I wouldn't mind Glass out at least but you are correct we have only just started the season. Having this game in round 16 would of been nice.

With Embley choosing surgery there is now at least one enforced change.

Swift or Newman are the only choices for me. The Claremont game today, Stevenson played quite well today, but Swift dominated inside. He and Neates were BOG for me. From all reports Newman dominated in his game as well.

Only two options for a straight swap with Embers, obviously if there are a few more outs things change, but for now I don't want to see anyone else included before these two.

Even if it's not playing on a wing, where the staff seemed committed to playing Swift last year, but rather shuffling around the midfield to get Swift inside more, I can definitely see situations in which he gets a game.

The thing you're overlooking is the fact that the players coming in will be playing for their careers and might offer more than the senior players in this type of game.

Opportunity is an amazing thing.

The first month of the season is all about getting match fitness up.

The evidence from the bye (over multiple years) is fairly damning in that missing games early is a major disadvantage the following week.

I'm all for resting our older players - however the games after the byeis perfect for that.

This feels like a BYE not excited at all.

I'm the opposite. I'm interested to see who gets the opportunity to play and I'm excited to see if we can truly put someone to the sword. That was one thing that we lacked for a long time, even in our premiership years, was the killer instinct. Definitely not the most excited I've ever been for a game, but I certainly think that this is an opportunity.

I was pretty bored by half time of the Melbourne game. It became about how much we could smash them than any contest.

I guess you guys need to ask the question would you be more angry if you lost to GWS or won by 100 points but lost one of or many of Cox,Kerr, Glass, A.Selwood, Waters to long term injuries?

You guys have great depth. I can tell you right now K.Stevens aint going to waite around for half the team to break a leg so he can get a game. Lycett also another SA isnt going to sit around. Newman was close to BOG and has showed great form at WAFL league level, play him he could actually add something to the side with Lecras and Nicoski out. Swift is another deserving of a game as is Brennan.

Kerr - Stevens
Cox - Lycett
Glass - Brennan
A.Selwood - Butler
Embley - Newman
Waters - Swift

You guys dont play another woeful team for some time until the bye in which you will be able to rest players. Maybe if you play Cox play him as the sub. I honestly cant see Kerr, Glass, A.Selwood, Embley (now) traveling and i dare say you will challenge the Waters hit.

Just an outsiders POV being from perth.

We will 'rest' nobody. Way too early in the season to do this.

The team is finding a good rhythm together, why break this?

This.

Not sure the AFL will like the Eagles resting players against GWS and it just doesn't look good early in the season. Worsford will see it is in the interest of the Game not to rest.

BTW I do see the rationale of resting senior players...but just don't think it will occur

Having been swept up in Newmania™ - I'm calling for him to play:

Glass Mackenzie Waters
Hurn Schofield A. Selwood
Rosa Priddis Masten
Shuey Lynch Hill
Hams Kennedy Cox

R: Naitanui S. Selwood Kerr

I: Gaff Smith Darling
S: Newman

E: Stevenson Butler McGinnity

IN: Newman
OUT: Embley (shoulder)

Sub IN: Newman
Sub OUT: Hams

This.

I would have thought the AFL would be more concerned about GWS getting blown out. Having said that, there will be no mass resting of players. Embley is already out, and Waters may be suspended. Maybe Kerr or Cox get rested if they are a bit niggly. Thats about it.
