Rocca must go now

I can't just stand by and watch this fool go around again next year. He bring nothing to the side, doesn't know where to play from, hasn't chased a single player yet this year and is letting full backs get 30 touches on him.

Yes he has kicked 8 goals in his last 2 games, but against Carlton and Richmond.

I'm starting to believe that coaches will give him 3 or 4 goals a game to have a hard running good ball user full back on him to set their team up with 20 forward drives.

This week Melbourne will go with Holland, someone who can't get a game until they play Collingwood and he treat Rocca like the bitch he is.

This board is full of weak, soft supporters like yourself. Once the team loses, they look for a scapegoat and cry it up; Rocca is leading the competition in contested marks. Brings nothing to the side? Deluded much?

I haven't heard from so many disrespectful fans in my life. You guys are being really stupid. Come on! He is a 30yo tall forward who had his achilles tendon snap not long ago. He was never an endurance machine but ALWAYS offered a big big advantage to our team.

You're all talking about his opponent getting 20+ possessions a game, him leading the AFL for contested marks, midfield deliver being bad, him having only kicked XX # of goals. Who cares! He has been an absolute champion for this football club in the last decade. He was the Collingwood players that the opposition feared when the ball was in our forward line. He has given us so much. And still offers us something with his presence. Just as Sean Dempster. Even ask Clokey a numorous times this season. He is still a monster, he still provides a contest on a consistent basis that a raw Reid or Brown cannot.

Everyone of you should be ashamed of the shit you have posted about such a serviceable player for the Collingwood FC. He has been the most important player for us behind Bucks for over 10 years! HE deserves to go out on his own terms, we have no right to decide. So all of you need to get over it.

Ow, and to the people that are saying he has kicked 8-9 goals in the last 2 weeks against disappointing teams, get off it! You find players in the AFL that are capable of doing that, more times then not, they are stars for their team, or potential stars.

The angst on this board is unbelievable. Yes we have lost a few games, but did we really expect to win this many in the first place? Supporters must remember how young our side is, and that at this stage of the season such young legs get tired. As for Rocca would you prefer to throw Ben Reid to the wolves at FF. The fact of the matter is Rocca is our most efficient scorer, so why would you want to remove that. Our time is coming fellas we just have to be patient. Can you imagine the strength of the side with the likes of Shaw, Thomas, Pendles, Clarke, Cloke, Reid, Brown, Goldy etc. running around at 25-26 in their peak. Lets stop the panic and focus on the positives this side can only get better.

Young legs!thats bullshit, what legs do Hawthorn have? Clarkson don,t send your boys to Arizona in the off-season.
What a waste of hard working every day Aussies income to send the whole list to Arizona for so called altitude training.
Hasn,t mickey mouse heard of Falls Creek.

It is completely pointless discussing any of this until we can actually win the ball in the middle & deliver it to advantage to our forwards. Any forward setup is useless and criticism of our forwards based on the last 5 weeks is baseless until we do something in the middle. We are not winning the contested ball - thus forwards find it difficult to find space & one on one contests. When we win the ball we butcher the delivery excepting - Leon, Lockyer & Didak (when he gets it). A player like Rocca will hurt sides if you can kick it to his advantage one on one. We just are not doing it. How many times did we get Rocca one on one with Bowden & kick to his advantage? My only frustration with Rocca is his kicking for goal, he has to make the most of limited oppurtunities.
Finally - a smart person! Look at the eagles - they kick goals with no forward line, if they had fev he would kick 120 goals. It all about midfield, movement and delivery and at the moment we have SFA

Mate, your an idiot.

This thread is rubbish.

Until our midfield realise how good a contested mark he is he will look ordinary.

Against Carlton I was getting so frustrated coz the fools in the midfield were kicking it bacwards and forwards across the half forward line, why not clear out the 50, kick it LONG and have him go one on one with his opponent.

Your critisising the wrong players.

I agree with pielebo 100% I think it's a disgrace that some of our fans treat such serevants of the club with such disregard.

1) Rocca has no trade value at his age and you don't trade players who have given so much to the club at the end of the career it shows no loyalty and we expect that from our players. IT WORKS BOTH WAYS

2) Rocca is still of large importance to the team structure. There is no ready made replacement and no you can't put a price on on his ability to bring the ball to ground and take contested marks

3) Anyone calling for Rusling in to replace Rocca directly obviously has either not seen enough of Rusling or does not know enough about the game. A Cloke and Rusling foward line would be far worse then a Rocca Cloke foward line for the following reasons

A) Rusling is very one dimensional, no mobility, no good off the deck

B) Rusling is average overhead mark and poor contested mark

C) Rusling started off very well in VFL this week kicked a couple early goals but really struggled when the other team took away his space to lead into

Rusling is not much taller then Bucks and is undersized for a KPP hence with his lack of contested marking ability you do not want him to be you main option to goal. Look at other teams with similar smallish full fowards such as Johnson and Williams (Bulldogs and Hawthorn i know these guys are a touch smaller then rusling but they are also better overhead) Both sides had hard times kicking goals with undersized full foward because you can't afford to just pump it long. All foward lines need a good contested marking player deep.

go back and have a look at my posts over the last few months.

Rocca is a dud and if you can't see that then you're as dumb as the tooth-less jailbirds that we're famous for.

He doesn't chase out of the forward line, is not fit enough for AFL football and his kicking is shocking and 1.6 goals a game for a full time forward over 200 plus games isn't good enough.

We got rid of Tarrant who had a better GPG avg. yet we've kept this dud.

Look at what Geelong, Richmond & the Western Bulldogs have done to him.
Put a rebounding type of full back on him, as soon as theres a turn over run off him.

Teams are now willing to give up 3 or 4 goals (shots on goal) to Rocca if it means putting a faster type pf player on him who will start 20 odd forward drives.

It's AFL football, players get dumped all the time. We got rid of superstars before and we should get rid of him. We'll get rid of Lica at the end of the year because he can't keep up with AFL football.

As for kicking 8 goals in the last 2 weeks. against Richmond & Carlton, not great backlines. Look at what the big forwards have done against them this year.
Brown kicked 10

Name how many times in the last 5 years he has kicked a bag on a side in the top 8 at the time.
Name a time he took it up to the best backmen in the comp ie. Starlett. he gets touched up far too often.

Yeah because if he goes we are gonna win heaps of games cos we have a better target to kick to. Open your eyes for crying out loud he is so so important even if he doesnt kick 67 goals each match like you guys think!!!

It's not kicking 60-70 goals, it's the fact that he can't get fit enough to play at the top level, he doesn't chase and players will run off him at will. He goes missing too much and with our list (midfielders not being up to the best, backs young and learning) we can't carry him. His player becomes a extra midfielder.

not going to quote your whole thing I'm the gun but who is a better option for us at the moment as i have previously stated our game plan and structure would go backwards with rusling as the key foward. You don't want to hinder Clokes development by making him play full foward. Ried doesn't have the afl body plus Cloke and Reid would kick us out of games atm

Rocca!!!

Give him his due....he is our best forward by a long way.
Without the midfield providing any kind of regular, quality delivery into the forward line for the last 6 weeks Rocca and Cloke have both done well to score as they have.
Admittedly they were both pretty quiet last Friday but the entire team was down.

No Rocca = No Pies = No chance of Finals success this year or next.

You can speculate all you like about this young player or that and their potential. But Rocca is there now doing the job and teaching these young FF and CHF hopefulls the trade....you should kiss his big hairy gluteus maximus...

very well said i think Trav has learned alot in terms of fending a player off and one handed marking in a very A Rocca style

i actually agree with the altitude training and i recall whwn collingwood were flying everyone was sayin it was because of the altitude training ???

I think the altitude training in itself has not helped or hurt us. They were not there long enough for it to have any effect. The advantage of it is simply team bonding - which I think has worked very well. It takes them out of their comfort zone & they have to work hard together. The 1990 premiership team attributes their boot camp at Bacchaus Marsh (?) as a key part in their success that year.

I think everyone needs to get over the whole altitude training thing its a complete myth.

Falls creek hardly has first class sports training facilities. Besides, Hawthorn went overseas to the Kokoda Track. "Hasn't Alistair heard of the Greenwood track at the back of Latrobe uni in the Darebin/Bundoora area".

As far as your "hard working aussies income" emotional drivel, it's a very long bow to draw.

I wouldn't go so far as calling it a myth. But people believe everything they read. They get a couple of news reports about Arizona, Sheehan, Walls and other journos mention Arizona having a good impact when things go well, and when things go bad they put 2+2 together to get 5.

And no i dont wann meet up my misses wouldnt approve and ive never swung that way

Rocca has been good on star backs like Scarlett, (it was just an offie for him that match) He takes a good back and absorbs it and even gets success from it.

But still, 40 goals in 17 matches and leader of contested marks, that is a damn good effort. His kicking is still a worry, tur, but he does deliver, we'd have been in the bottom 8 if not for him!
