News Rohan Connelly thinks we'll finish 9th

Who gives a shit what these people think
Last year, just about no one had us finishing in the eight. Yet when we did, they were calling for Ratten's head (i guess to be fair, so was I).
They have a right to their opinion. And when they are wrong, go back and laugh and spit at them.

With articles like that, he should be writing for the Hun.

Doesn't actually give any reason that we will be worse this year, only says that Murphy and Gibbs have to take more pressure off Judd. Absolute clown.

Carlton simply still doesn't have enough armoury, and beyond that trio, perhaps not quite enough midfield silk.

Really Rohan... really?

Judd, Gibbs and Murphy thats where our midfield ends...

So unlike every other football commentator in the world, where its our defence that needs a bit of work, he makes it out that our forwards and defence are our strength.

I just don't get this mentality we will go backwards. We haven't lost any important players, have recruited depth and should re-gain crucial players (Kreuzer, Mclean) at an early stage of the season. Only Scotland and Houlihan could be projected to slide as age catches up with them this year, and they aren't absolutely key to our 22. Meanwhile plenty of young best 22 players could make the leap to the next level.

The main set of opinion flowing out of the main board is it isn't a case of Carlton going backwards, but of other teams being better. I say thats utter crap, North relies on it's senior players to hold down key positions. It needs Rawlings, Petrie and Harvey for success at the moment. Melbourne has just expunged it's senior players, and to my mind will be vulnerable against harder bodies this year, expect for them to be brushed aside but teams like Hawthorn, Geelong, St Kilda and by big margins. Fremantle meanwhile has injury worries to players like Barlow and Morabito who add that extra bit of talent and depth to the midfield rotation, and who they will suffer without. Hawthorn still strikes me as a little injury prone, but they have the talent for top 4 and better.

Gahhhh I could go on. But nevertheless, I don't see a reason for us to go backwards and several for us to advance, stagnancy would be a dissapointment to be honest. I know this is a biased media commentator, who prescribes, as we all do, to tribal emotions about our least favourite teams. But sometimes I just wish that they could see past their own bias

Great stuff Silver.

Rohan Connoly is a fool. Fancy saying midfield is our weakness. Ah, hullo, compared to 2010 we will have the following additional midfield depth...

- Robinson, looks primed to step up and be a good midfielder this year
- hopefully Mclean
- Ellard, finished 2010 wel and looks set to continue
- Gibbs moves to midfield, mind you he'd want to extract a digit soon
- Another year into Lucas
- Kruezer possibly as a RR about 5-6 games into the year

And let's not forget the team looks to have the most depth it has had for about 10 years, and finally we have a settled back 6 and the forwardline is really coming together now.

Any idiot (but obviously not Rohan, who must be beyond the realms of idiocy) knows having a settled back 6 (Jamo, Bower, Duigan, Laidler, Yazz, JR, throw in Watto) is crucial to true success, as is depth, and I think it was a Age (ironic) article this week that talked of the Blues list running into the 30s. Even Mike S said he was impressed by the Overs in his head, AJ, Ellard etc.

Get off the turps Rohan.

Is he Taking the piss???

Connelly= Another peanut.:rolleyes:

We've strengthened our list, put another pre-season into our young guys, improved our coaching staff etc etc etc,, yet we can expect a fall? absolute twat.:thumbsd:

So glad i don't fork out my money to read this crap.:thumbsu:

Couldn't believe it! Our recruiting to fill immediate needs has been first class - mature recruits in Duigan, Laidler, Curnow and Twomey (the dark horse). Our depth is now clearly evident, with viable 2nd-options all over the ground - Bullants should have a very good year again with a lot of rising talent running around. Warnock and Walker will be like new recruits and hopefully McLean can consistently show something. No Rohan, you're wrong mate - poor research and no factual back-up for your opinion. If we have a relatively good run with injury, especially to our KPPs, then we can make 4th - certainly won't run 9th! Crap article from a deluded Bummers supporter.

I can't believe it! I thought we were gonna do good this year! Well no point watching footy this year then....Has the NRL started yet?

Last year Robert Shaw on SEM said we would be the big slider due to missing Fev. He predicted we would finish bottom 4:eek:. The peanuts in the press think we will slide but as we all know 90% of our players will benefit from another year in the system so common sense says we should improve. Listen to them all at the end of the year when we go top 4 say how they knew Carlton were on the move etc... The key point is I am really wondering why I bother to buy a yearly Age prescription. I now go straight to Big Footy if I want to hear some insightful analysis of footy.

Gee there are some precious supporters on here! I'm not sure how sliding from 8th to 9th constitutes a serious demise. A top 8 berth isn't assured. The way we limped into the finals and lost the last 3 games of the season makes us a top-4 threat?

We recruited some promising types over the preseason? Big deal, so did every other team. Our youngsters are coming of age? Ditto.

Only a lot of hard work and fundamental improvements to the game plan will see us rise. Among those

  • toughening up and zoning off when we don't have the ball ('down-hill skiing')
  • creating a medium marking target in the forward 50 (bombing it to Eddie:confused:)
  • Finding key defensive depth to assist Jamison and Bower (Watson isn't an overnight cure)
  • 4 quarter fitness through midfield rotations - resting Judd, Murphy, Simpson as forward options, Russell and Armfield to spend time in the middle
  • Finding roles for our rucks - can't afford to sit them out on a 3 person bench

This is his predicted ladder so far.

He has been reviewing 6 clubs per week since last week.

Next week he will review the final 5.

Sydney is curious - I'd slot them into the vacancy at 7. Unless Rohan sees either the Dogs or the post-Gary cats sliding bigtime.

Oh, and I think Adelaide with Sammy Jacobs will rise much higher than 12th. Their annus horribilis was last season.

Terry Wallace has Adelaide Top 4

He has Carlton 5th, 6th or 7th (with Hawthorn and Geelong)

Well I wouldn't go that far. :( But they're certainly a team that has been thereabouts and troubled us accordingly. They had a massive cleanout a year ago but with a slight rebuild complete will push a few sides due to that home ground advantage. Could place 7-11 if they have a reasonable run with injuries.
