I’m a Hind > Saad guy but it’s hard to justify picking two Dons defenders although same could be said for the Blues. Maybe Lloyd?

I’m not the biggest fan but I’d have T.Mitchell in the side. His huge engine and weight of numbers has a large impact imo.

I wonder if a basketball style and only do Best 18 but have an AA 1 and 2 team.

I think the correct decision would have been to push Stringer to HFF, Bont to midfield, Parish/Touk Miller out of the side

Only really the last little bit after Pendles got injured.

Hind and Saad both had very good years and was hard to split, even with bias on my part, hence Saad.

I thought Boak, Mills, Mundy, Laird and Zorko had better years

Very, very unlucky - as if anyone is picking Papley over Stringer if given the choice first week of finals based on the season they had.

Now compare actual rather than average. Where Papley beats Stringer in a number of areas.

Surely the AA people should be picking players based on their entire season. Plus, who expects a forward pocket to have high metres gained? They are 30m out from goal. And clearances? For a forward pocket?

Maybe compare Stringer with Bont if you want to use midfield stats. Bont has him covered easily, except for goals.

I don’t see that as awful logic…. You want Stringer in and he is competing for a HFF spot. Happy to have Stringer on the bench and come on for the bursts that he is famous for. In that case:

Putting Stringer in the forward pocket would also be stupid - how often throughout the year did he play forward pocket? there’s already too much stupidity with players out of their position (Merrett on the wing, both HFFs etc.)

you want to complain about Stringer not being picked, complain about the selections of both HFFs who took his slot - not the forward pocket player who also had a great year and was actually selected in the position he played.

“Since the bye” was the reason Stringer just missed out, rather than the reason he should have been in.

Early games count just as much as later season games. And so they should.

Only one Lions player seems a little light on especially with our attacking focused team. However, there probably isn't any out and out glaring omissions. A case could be made for all of Cameron, Clugga and Zorko. I guess us Lions fans can take solace in the idea that our spread of talent is now so even that it's difficult for any of our players to stand out. Sounds like a premiership side to me

May was luckiest. He was better last year & should have been AA then.
Macrae first picked rover…. That isn’t lucky. Papley competing with Cameron for FP. Do you think Cameron was dudded?

May should have been in last year but he has been great this year. And unlike most of the key position defenders who were in the squad he goes to the oppositions best forward every week. And until last round where Hawkins kicked 4 on him no opposition key forward has done much against us. Carlton supporters crap on about Weitering but he takes the number 2 forward most weeks and Lever and Aliir play loose and on the number 2 or 3 forwards

Don't know who should have been in ahead of Papley off top of my head tbh but I don't think he has been a real stand out this yeea. His selection is probably based more on a body of good football over the last few years

Maybe people need to invent a new position just for Jake. I know... *STRIKER* !!! Someone who plays midfield and forward. Gets clearances and kicks goals. Jake is the first striker the game has seen.

Then Jakey Stringer got a new contract and said "**** this lads, let's go play some ****in' finals!" and put 21 blokes on his shoulders and carried them to a qualifying final. Forget the statistics. You can't put a decimal point on leadership. You either have it or you don't. Jakey has it.

On the contrary, there's never been a team in history to be Top 2 for 20 rounds and then fall out of the Top 4. How did this happen? Where was the captain? I'll tell you: while Bulldogs were getting mauled Bontempelly was down in the change rooms because with finals on the horizon, he'd turned his blue, red and white panties POO brown. So scared he shat himself. That's not leadership.

Stringer’s omission is the most ridiculous in recent AA history. He was one of the league’s top 10 players this year.

For people who think I’m being biased, he’s had a stronger year than both Merrett and Parish, and could’ve replaced either in the side with a simple reshuffle. There’s multiple other players he could’ve replaced too.

It’s absolutely mind blowing. We need AA selectors who actually watch the games.

The obvious move would be to put the Bont where he actually plays, drop Walsh and put Stringer into the HFF. As a neutral watching Stringer one of the other things people might not notice is how often he kicks clutch goals.

Yeah, it'd probably be a better team because players who excel in their positions would actually get picked there. Case in point the forwardline last season, where only one small forward was picked because they just had to squeeze Martin and Dangerfield in, even though they weren't good enough to make the midfield, where they predominantly play.

The AA selection committee is a panel full of turds who just pick their favourites. Buddy got in the squad ffs.
