Lol, based on some guy’s tweet 12 months ago.

Yeah, very credible.
It’s well known in the media and rugby league community.

Anyway, not sure where you are going with the Cameron Smith example. 1 example of a star marrying a lemon doesn’t prove anything.

Lol, mate I’m part of both communities and I’ve not heard anyone substantiate it.

Regardless, the frankly borderline sub-Trumpian logic that ‘trading up’ for firm tits and a nicer head is something that a) everyone would do, and b) not the sign of a shit bloke, is pretty stupid.

Again, I don’t know that Lyon did this. But if he did I’d think a lot less of him.

They drew 1-1 here two series ago against a better batting line up than Australia with Warner and Smith back - and that was with Doug bracewell taking up a third of their pace attack.

Yes they play on pitches that start out very green. They also play on pitches that flatten out remarkably after the second day, with extremely short boundaries. I would caution against writing off their attack as green track bullies.

Especially since they won a series in the UAE a whopping two months ago - the same opponent and venue where Australia looked incapable of challenging Pakistan.
To be fair, Doug Bracewell was literally the reason they tied that series. He and Chris Martin were their best bowlers. Boult didn't even play in the first match.

Not really a strong reference point.

Certainly a funny old world when Nathan Lyon suddenly turns up with a 9 hanging off his shoulder.

FWIW there's been a fair bit of scuttlebutt amongst blokes back in Sydney grade cricket that Northern District have found the GOAT increasingly difficult to deal with as the years have gone by since his move to Sydney. But if its largely the same blokes running ND's as it were 10 years ago then I wouldn't be surprised if there's a bit going on from both club and player. I think there's something in the Ku-ring-gai chase water.

Sorry I should have made it a bit clearer - members of the media community who work and cover actual important sporting events, and not the local mixed gender Tuesday night netball final.

That kind of is my point though. They were a pretty ordinary side against a better Aussie side than the current one.

If that outfit could scrounge a drawn series I’d imagine the current one would be capable of at least matching that.

I work for ARL and it’s sub-branch the CRL.... doing media. I’ve covered premiership nrl matches.

This doesn’t somehow make me Cameron smith’s confidante and the authority on how many sheets of shit tickets he uses when he wipes his arse, of course, but between that, and the sheer volume of uni classmates who actually made something of their careers unlike yours truly, I’ve never heard any of them verify the Smith rumour.

I disagree with that logic. I think a better reference point is their last Test series here when they got beaten pretty comfortably.

I think they would belt us in NZ, but I think with Smith (not sure if Warner is in our best XI) back, we'd beat them.

So then what relevance does that have to Nathan Lyon genius?
Ffs

I said that IF someone traded up purely for reasons of aesthetics, then yes there’s a fair chance that it would make them a shit bloke.

How don’t you get this.

It’s not string theory.

Yes, everyone understands your brilliant post, but what relevance does it have to the topic? Do you even understand the conversation you put yourself in?

They drew one test, ran Australia close in another - after Australia were the beneficiaries of a disgusting decision that cost NZ 60 runs or whatever it was. Comfortably isn’t really the adjective I’d use

The relevance is, someone - I don’t even know who - said that trading up or words to that effect, doesn’t make you a shit bloke. I simply pointed out that if said trade was based purely on aesthetics then it probably does.

I have heard otherwise from credible sources.

Anyway going way off topic here.

Fair point, but the fact of the matter is Australia still won the series 2-0 and then beat New Zealand is New Zealand. I think we're still pretty far ahead of them.

This was also an Australian side with a far inferior Lyon and Siddle (who was pretty average at that stage) instead of Cummins.
