So he posts a shield average of 47 since 2015 then makes 2 centuries 4 days before the first test and can’t be included because of ‘policy’.

****en spare me..

Whether or not he should have been selected in the squad originally is debatable and a matter of opinion. No one is denying he has been good for a while in the Shield or saying he should have had an opportunity already.

But it's an entirely different argument as to whether the selectors should bring him in to the squad after his CAXI performance - one in which the selectors will never do and rightfully so. You're rewarding a player on the back of 1 match - a match that wasnt even granted FC status.

Surely you're not that clueless to think that the selectors will be rewarding players on the performance of 1 match?

Worth remembering that the last time we selected a batsman on the back of poor quality tour games we ended up with Mitch Marsh for 30 odd Tests. Hadn't done much at Shield level but hit a few tons against weak County 2nd Xis which prompted the selectors to dump Watson for him in 2015.

Steady on with the clueless shit pal, I understand how it works and know it won’t happen, but my opinion is that he should’ve been included in the squad in the first place (always maintained that), and now his just thrown egg all over their faces.

He's averaged about 38 since 2017 with 1 hundred and 8 or so 50s. That's below even guys like Travis Head who was probably fortunate to get a go in the Test side. Obviously that's not including the hundreds in this game but there's a reason they weren't given FC status.

He is a better cricketer than Travis Head...

Yeh but thats a different argument whether he should have been selected in the first place. One that I'm sure people wouldn't be so passionate about had he not performed as well as he did for the CAXI.

I responded to your post containing the article. Theres nothing wrong with what is written in that article.

Patterson is averaging 47 since 2015. He has just posted two centuries. There’s literally no reason at all an in form batsman should not be included. I’d be pushing head out.

How exactly is Pucovski deserving of a spot over Patterson? It’s laughable to even go there. He has played about 7 shield games! So many cricketers out there deserve it more than him.
Lol You've got no idea. Played about 7 games and already a double century and a 180 odd with an average of 49... Even blind freddy can see why he was picked.

He’s played 7 over 2 years. Yes a double ton and 180 is great. But you can also see they picked him to hang their hat on how the Greg Chappell system is working. Which it never has

I’ve got no idea? The kid has played 7 games as you say and has done jack shit at shield level in the scheme of overall performance.

If you’re going to insult don’t ****ing respond.

Which is it? You're a bit all over the place here. First you claim he should be promoted on the basis of the tour match then you claim you understand that won't happen but he should have been in the squad in the first place. Here's the thing though - he's not at the top of the Shield averages this season, he's one of a dozen or so batters who are doing fairly well. Last season he was ordinary, averaging 37 with 0 hundreds. It's just not true to say that he's been consistently at the top of the Shield averages or that he's been knocking the door down. He hasn't done anything to demand selection until a few days ago which unfortunately for him is too late. Other than that though, I don't really see what he's done over the last couple of years to set himself apart from the dozen or so other guys who people have their eyes on.

You seem to be a bit all over the place going from one position to the next as each one is refuted. Now we're down to 'but he's better than Travis Head'. Well, maybe. He's certainly not harmed his case with the pair of tons, especially with not scoring enough tons having been the major knock on him. He'd be some chance for the Ashes squad if he backs it up in the back end of the Shield.

He's played 8 FC matches and averages 49. That's about as good as you could ask for in someone's first 8 FC games, especially given he hasn't been able to play regularly. Your 'scheme of overall performance' sounds just a nebulous as some the rubbish the selectors come out with. Reckon you should take a break and have a chat with yourself.

Exactly. It’s just another Greg Chappell youth promotion moment that’s flown in the face of guys that have posted high averages over so many years.

He has only played seven games but he certainly hasn’t done jack shit. When was Patterson’s last double hundred?

I am not all over the place at all. I said I felt he should be picked but I understood why he won’t be, because the selectors won’t change policy. They are two very different angles.

He has averaged high 40’s since 2015 and now just smashes 2 centuries? My issue is twofold;

1. He should be in in front of Labuschagne and Head who’ve had only a snippet of the success at shield level he has
2. Picking the squad prior to the tour match is pretty silly when we are now going to overlook one of the better shield batsman who has just smashed two centuries.

And again showing your ignorance pal, what's a small number of games got to do with anything when hes averaging 50? S Waugh, Warne, Pointing etc ring a bell, these were all players picked after very few first class games where their talent was obvious.

Tell me who' are these so many players averaging over 50 in the last few years?

Ponting played 4 years of shield cricket before he was picked. Steve Waugh they pretty much were hoping it would come off. If you’re talking about mark waugh. He had made 10k runs at a first class level.

Pointing was 19 Pucovski will be 20, and yes it was Steve I was talking about hence the S Waugh

Ok so now we’ve established the following;
1. He hasn’t played regularly
2. He has posted an average over 8 games that is virtually on par with Patterson’s after a huge number of FC games
3. You want to talk about overall performance? Well point 2 kind of negates your ridiculous assertion about my nebulous ‘rubbish’.
4. Oh, and we’ve just seen one of our best performing shield batsman post 2x centuries to not only show why he is in form, but to validate his form over 5 years.

But yeah, I’ll have a lie down

You're kinda all over the show...

See that part that says BECAUSE THE SELECTORS WONT CHANGE POLICY? Well that’s the line that states the reason why I understand it won’t happen. That’s very different than actually agreeing with the policy.

You do get the difference don’t you? Do I think Kurtis Patterson deserves to play? Yes. Do I understand why he won’t play? Yes, because unfortunately selectors won’t change the policy of picking players from the tour game to the first test.

It’s very simple.
