I was thinking with Houlihan out the mature bodied Twomey could tag Heath Shaw and hopefully contribute a bit offensively. Quite possible he could be the sub though but Ratten did hint that it might be a taller player this week.

Hahha well he's gonna win that contest this week! :D

Twomey set to line up for Blues

SEVEN years after being overlooked in the national draft, Wayde Twomey will line up for Carlton at the MCG today.
It's been a slow, but steady rise for the former Western Jets player who played three seasons with Werribee in the VFL before signing with Swans Districts in Western Australia. In three seasons with the WA club, he collected almost 1500 disposals as a rebounding half-back.

Originally from Tarneit, Twomey played junior football with Hoppers Crossing before joining the TAC Cup.
''Nothing seems to fluster him,'' said Harding, who recalls Twomey's 46 touches one day in his first season.
Carlton coach Brett Ratten has seen the same level-headed approach from Twomey.
''He doesn't really get fazed by a lot of things,'' Ratten said.
All of which should prove handy in front of a packed MCG today.

Thought he played the same sort of game he plays at VFL level. Calm, strong at the body, ok kick. The goal was classy. He'll never be more than a reliable soldier type but what's wrong with that?

Twomey was pretty decent.

Not outstanding but a solid contributor. Came in and gave his all at each contest which is all we can ask of him. Kicked a nice goal too.

As I've already said earlier, don't think he'll amount to much at AFL level but he certainly did enough to keep his spot for another week. Had a real crack which is a great sign.

People in the football world clearly didn't think that Curnow, Laidler, Garlett and Duigan (to name just a few) would amount to much at AFL level either, but we have seen what being given an opportunity can do for some players. I don't see why Twomey will be any different. I don't expect him to become a star, but I can see him becoming a really solid and reliable role-player for us.

I thought he looked all right against Maxwell in particular plus I got him confused with Toovey in the commentary. Is he no relation to Twomey who played for Collingwood years ago? You guys played all right. You needed more luck.

Yeah, six hit the posts! That said you guys kicked a ton of behinds as well, many more than us.

What killed us was turnovers, and a lack of KPP players. Jamison in for Watson, and It would have been much closer IMO.

The result went to the better team on the day.

On topic, Twomey was pretty good considering the quality of the opposition, and the intensity of the game. Not a bad game to debut in!

Worth another shot next week vs Essendon.

I was impressed with his attack on the ball, really did look like he was having a great crack at it and not intimidated by the big stage/opposition. I'd be very disappointed if he didn't line up next week, deserves another game based on yesterday's efforts.

Well said, I'll second that :thumbsu:. Indeed Duigan & Curnow are now indispensable for us. Don't like it when they are out of the side. Twomey did not look out of place in the team yesterday. I'm sure he'll get better.

Thought he was alright, did enough to get another game I reckon.

I have been very impressed with him at the Northern Bullants games I've gone to this year. He will have a spot next week.

Strong, hard and composed even against a super team, high pressure etc. I liked him. Will never be a star but he doesn't have to. At the very least he could be a very handy depth player who will always contribute all he has to give. I was impressed with his calmness and composure from day dot of coming to the club though.

btw don't mind me, just lost a bet..

I thought he looked great out there (with not too much of it) on the weekend. He's earnt his spot again for this week I reckon.

Agreed. Can expect improvement now that he has experienced AFL level, esp vs Pies at G huge crowd etc, so could be a really handy player.

He was brought in as a direct swap from Russell from what I can gather. Given his good showing in the game and Russell's off form as of late I personally can't see why Rusty doesn't get a run with the Bullants to find some good form and Twomey gets another run in the big league.
