Speculation Rory Lobb [OOC 2026]

A contender isn’t going to care about a second rounder. Maybe it’s a second a swap somewhere whether it be in the future or this year. Probably depends whether the Dogs are paying if they are might get a fraction more or whatever

Just because a team is a contender doesn't mean they're going to piss picks away.

Lobb isn't getting a second rounder.

A late second it like pick 40 ish it’s nothing especially if the draft thins out massively. A late second early third should be fine he’d still be decent in a good side as that second ruck. He’d do better than Mason Cox would at least

Mason was great in last years grand final. Lobb has kicked 1 goal in 3 games this year. He might be done.

Dogs' form turned to shit at the back end of last year but it wasn't because it was Lobb. He had 2.2, 2.2, 3.2 and 3.0 in the final four games, getting 13, 14, 14, 16 touches, playing varying amounts in the ruck, and proving value both inside 50, and up the flanks/wings. He's been pushed out by Darcy but it's not as if he's forgotten how to play football in the last year or whatever and people are pretending that he has.

He's one of fewer than 15 players in the league that can both be of greater than marginal value as a key forward and in the ruck. Half the league is either playing two first rucks, or a key forward that can't really ruck pinching in the ruck. It's just that the Dogs happen to be one of the other half of the league that isn't doing that (with Darcy). The comparison isn't how good Lobb is in and of himself (which isn't all that bad really), more so the comparison with the idea of a second first ruck in the team, or a key forward that can't ruck. He might be worse than a given key forward in the team.

Mason was decent, but Lobb is surely an improvement and that's even despite me not rating the mercenary Lobb too much at all.

The idea that Rory Lobb wouldn't be a significant upgrade on Mason Cox is ridiculous. Just as a quick measure in an ability to get involved in the game (though not a perfect measurement), Cox is averaging 7.5 disposal this year (and fewer than 6 across his last 5 games). Three "bad" games from Lobb this year is still 29 touches across 3 games, for 9.67 average. A touch or two may not seem a lot but when we're comparing numbers between 10, it's significant - an increase from 7.5 to 10 is a one-third more involved player.

Exactly and a side in a window would do it, they won't care about a second or at worst an early 3rd rounder. Lobb is a significantly better player who has had games kicking 3+ on many occasions. Would not even need to ruck much with Cameron there but he's solid in there. He just looks bad in a Dogs side who already has JUH, Darcy, Naughton and that's not even considering your F/S Croft from last year. Someone was going to be the odd man out.

If someone has to be the odd man out i guess well just take JUH then

Actually might make sense for the Pies surely a better footballer than Cox at least and he gets to stay in Melbourne. Carlton makes some sense too if they offload Pittonet.

Carlton?

Would make zero sense, regardless of what happens with Pittonet.

You're actually well stocked in that department. Curnow, H Mckay, T De Koning can share the load with Pittonet.

Correct, other than Curnow who won’t ever spend time there.

TDK and Pittonet are both very capable at AFL level, whilst we’ve seen this season Harry can provide a chop out as required.

We also have young Hudson O’Keeffe developing at VFL level (though currently injured), who I believe is highly rated internally.

We may look for another ruck (with Mirkov a certainly to depart), but that sure as hell won’t be a 32 year old looking for immediate senior game time.

The guys expensive & soft, not a good combination...

If rumours are true we're dumb enough to be looking at Yeo/Petty on big deals, why not throw an offer to Lobb.
