Ross Lyon On "One Week At A Time"

Change that 80% to less then 50% and you might get the picture. Bally along with Hayes were St.Kildas best 3 players at the point in the game when Bally was benched.

Ling was killing Dal Santo, so Bartel goes to Hayes and quells him. Bally sits on the bench when he's had 22 possies from 48% game time, a shit load of clearances and tackles.

Geelong were not a quick team that could exploit Bally's weakness at the time. Foot speed.

He has that back along with a little extra penetration with his kicking. Top echelon of fitness staff and sports science gurus will do that. Oh..and we don't flog the shit out of our players when they shouldn't/needn't be playing.

Yeah my bad, seems I was mis-lead regarding his game time. Apologies.

I cant believe people still passionately care about this. It happened almost 2 years ago, we kept our players, we got Ball, we won the flag last year. Move on!!!!

What and let the Saints trolls forget what a steaming shit heap of a club they support?

**** that!

You obviously weren't here to put up with the arseclowns carrying on about there being no chance on earth we could get him, what a low dog he was to St Kilda etc etc, not to mention the myriad bullshit stories about how Collingwood somehow "cheated" getting him and how Ball acted illegally during the draft period.

**** them, **** them to hell forever.
If we win another 100 flags I'll never let those **** wits bleeding arseholes heal....ever.
*****.

Then there is O'Dea.

**** them twice.

No way! What I can't understand is self-righteous people having input in a topic they have no interest in so they can criticise others. St.Kilda attempted to screw Collingwood in the Luke Ball deal, and everybody felt he had no chance of getting to the club.

Then when he did, Luke Ball and the club copped a shit load of unfair criticism from a number of ignorant people. It was a huge time when his name was called out in the 2009 National Draft, and I knew it would lead to bigger things, so I'll never forget it!

I rated Sharrod Wellingham at the time, so I disagree. St.Kilda should have known that he was a capable player that could help them. In 2009 he was a very promising 21 year old that had averaged 17 possessions, 3 marks and 3 tackles, and I certainly didn't want to lose him.
Well congratulations on your crystal ball gazing because I don't know a single Collingwood supporter who would have blinked at losing Wellingham back then in exchange for Ball. Frankly even given the benefit of hindsight, much as I would hate to lose him I'd just about do the same deal today albeit that it would be with some misgivings.

Wellingham has developed hugely since then and nobody in their right mind would have put him in the same street as Ball at the time. I just think we're incredibly lucky to have them both given what might have been and how big a bonus is it that Ball is now playing his best footy too.

Re: Ross On One Week At A Time.

To take responsibility in recent times does not appear to be the St Kilda way.

Hey, it's always someone elses's fault.

Look at all the pre season crap that they blamed on everyone else but themselves.

There's always an exception to the rule and I was shocked they admitted their reserves player was in the wrong for dropping the FC bomb to an elderly lady.

Kudos to them for that at least.

Dunno if you read the same thread as I did on their board but they've still managed to make it our VFL supporters' faults.....
I hate their board....

Not to worry Nicco, when you support a club that has failed miserably 3 times in a handful of years to take the flag of course you retreat from reality a bit, add to that their total domination of the wooden spoon market and the length of time since their last premiership (45 years) and you have a guaranteed recipe for delusional behaviour.

Forget about it and let them stew in their own juices for another 45 years :D

I'll never forget how good it was to draft him either but i couldnt care less about what anyone outside the Collingwood faithful think or say, why let it get to you?

Not sure if this is quite right or not.

Like KS, I also recall being quite shocked and disappointed to hear his name mentioned as a possible trade, so I think he was carving a pretty decent reputation for himself at the time.

Though I also thought he was offered not to St Kilda, but to NM to upgrade a pick ( from 30 to 25 ish IIRC) to then offer pick 25 ( and Goldsack??) to Saints.

Guess only club insiders would really know what exactly was offered and what wasn't!

Just thrilled it worked out the way it did...we have Ball, Wellingham and Goldsack, who all played pretty well last October.

For those that repeatedly claim that Wellingham was offered to St Kilda (KissStephanie), what proof do you have? I distinctly remember reading something from the Herald Sun about him being offered to North Melbourne at one point (can't recall if it was in order to upgrade our pick for the Ball trade in 2009, or if it happened in 2008, but it definitely happened either way), but I don't remember hearing/reading anything outside of BigFooty arguments about him being offered to the Saints.
It's common sense. As if we're going to trade Wellingham for a pick to give to St Kilda, but not just say 'hey guys, you dont just want sharrod instead do you?'.

I know I was against it.

Don't misunderstand me, I certainly rated Wellingham and I was as shocked as anyone when I heard it but in 2009 he was probably on the fringes of best 22 and no certainty to progress. He has obviously since proved the lie of that thinking. Ball on the other hand was always a gun midfielder and it was reasonably well known he was carrying injuries.

It's easy to be wise in retrospect and more than just a bit relieved but I'm pretty sure at the time the deal would have been close to a no-brainer even if I too hate the club -> player loyalty implications.
