If I was you guys I'd go super small and quick in the forward line, take out fisher, dempster and guilt with what they are best at, intercepting marks.
This really is no forward line vs no midfield, but our forwards arent too crash hot either.
You should get up, but who knows!

Just wondering if anyone knows what's going on with Nate Jones?
I was just on the AFL app and it has him on the injury list as 'Eye - TBC'

Misson said young gun Jesse Hogan was still a chance for round one.
“Jesse’s back has settled really well and we’re hoping he is able to run towards the end of this week and he’ll potentially train next week.
“We’re not writing him off for round one either. But he’s a young kid and we’re not going to risk him with the injury that he’s got, but he has settled very quickly and the doctor’s very happy with him.
“Again, we’ll assess it towards the end of next week.”
Analyzing the game is quite interesting. This pre-season we've been dominating possession of the ball, really relying on our decision making, and disposal ability. This game style is only going to naturally improve over time. I feel that Round 1 will provide us with a rare, but great occurrence in that we go in with a stronger midfield than the opposition, and thus can continue to dominate possession. What will let us down is our use of the footy when the game is close and when some players realise that there is 4 points and an early spot in the 8 as crazy as the sounds on the line. The saints have some quality readers of the football in their back half. So I don't expect our 2nd rate talls to being kicking many goals. However, what I expect is for us to play our fittest talls. Hopefully they can run the defence into the ground, all players will be fatiguing late, but if there defence can tire late, and we still manage to hold onto possesion, then it opens it up for the smaller forwards such as JKH and Blease and the like to assert some authority on the game. Round 1's will essentially be How are we going to make scoring chances VS How are they going to maintain possesion of the footy. I think the game will be tight for the first 2 and a half quarters, but come the last qtr I think our small targets up forward will start to get on top and fingers crossed give us a good start to the season.
So with this theory I expect at least 3-4 of JKH, Blease, Brynes, Kent and Bail to play.
tl;dr... We need our mids to get first use of the footy, our KPF's to run hard from the get go, and our Small forwards to take opportunities and advantage late in the game.
Not sure that all that was apparent on Sat afternoon! Going by the tried and true "X beats Y and Y beats Z, therefore X is better than Z" methodology, we are only marginally better than the Brisbane u/18s.I can take a round 1 loss if they bounce back and win the next four haha. I think the real issue with losing to the Saints would be the mental dive in confidence it would bring to the playing group given the positivity they'll be feeling with the higher training standards and more effective match strategies and team cohesion under Roos. We'll see.
Yeah I was as disappointed as anyone else on Saturday purely for these reasons. They'd better come out firing round 1!Not sure that all that was apparent on Sat afternoon! Tbh I don't think it was the players that needed the wakeup call - just certain members of the BF Demons boardSaturdays spanking was the best thing that could have happened. Just the wake up call they need going into round 1.
If I recall correctly last time we were favourites would've bee round 6 2010 against North after we lost to the pies by a point, then won 3 on the trot with the final a 50 point drubbing of the 4-0, Fevola and Brown Brisbane Lions. Good times.Melbourne.. Ethiad.. Disaster..
Last time we were favourites must have been when we'd won two straight and were playing North there. Bruce was favourite for the Brownlow and got an injury at the first bounce. I think we got hammered.
I just hate that venue. It's about time we shook off the curse.
What about the previous 8 years of spankings?Saturdays spanking was the best thing that could have happened. Just the wake up call they need going into round 1.

I thought we were destined for finals after that

*Sigh* this is depressing honestly.

I was in Europe for the start of the 2010 season. We'd been ok, but the Lions were flying with Fev and Browny leading the charge. My old man had been texting me the odd update through my travels so i could keep abreast of scores (i was off the interwebs to avoid heinous o/s data charges). Leading in to that match my expectations were low. I was wandering around St Peter's basilica in the Vatican City when my phone chimed up. A few people flicked disapproving stares my way, but I diverted most of them by not reacting and pretending it was someone else's phone. When the coast was clear I took my phone out and saw the best thing i would see that day. The text read "We flogged them by 50 points!" This time, there was no doubt I was the one making the noise as a cry of joy escaped my lips. A quick backhand from the wife shut me up and avoided a potential run in with the Swiss Guard, but nothing could wipe the smile off my face after that.
