FF: Welsh......Stevens...Burns

HB: Grover...Parker..Carr
HF: Burton...Carey...Bode

C: Headland...Hasleby...McManus
C: Stenglein...Riccuito....Edwards

HF: T. Longmuir...Pavlich...Waterhouse
HB: Bickley...........Smart.......Crowell

FF: Medhurst...McPharlin...Farmer
FB: Hart............Basset......Torney

R: Simmonds...Cook.........Bell
R: Biglands....Goodwin...McLeod

I: Jones, Woods, Haines, Walker
I: Clarke, Doughty, Ladhams, John****

I agree Parker should begin on Carey. If Carey gets the better of him, Pavlich can be moved to him (Not sure if Carey will be fit for round one anyway).

Our forward line will certainly test their defence. Pavlich will be too mobile and strong for Smart and McPharlin should be too quick off the mark for Basset.

Our midfield has more class and experience than last years with a skills focused pre-season, the addition of Headland, the improvement of Hase and Pav floating around the middle at times.
Although it does not quite draw level with Adelaide's it does come close. Stenglein will most likely get the job on Bell, Headland or Hasleby, probably the latter. Not sure who should get the job on McLeod... Connolly played Walker on him the last couple of times but it proved to be rather unsuccessful. Come to think of it there isn't really anyone else we could play on him. If McLeod plays around half forward perhaps Woods should be played on him...

What do you think?

Top effort though I would swtich Hayden and Hadrill

You have to drop 2 others aswell because Wizard Cup games have 24 players per side.

Excuse me, but I think you have to include McGregor ... Smart won't be Crows CHB.

Try this:

FF: Welsh Carey Bode
HF: Ricciuto Stevens Edwards
C: Burton Stenglein Ladhams
HB: Smart McGregor Torney
FB: Hart Bassett Johnco(k

1R: Clarke Goodwin McLeod

Int: Biglands Burns Bickley Reilly

Sorry, I forgot about McGregor. All the same though, McGregor won't be able to run with Pavlich all day. Pavlich will be too mobile. If Parker and Polak can hold their own against Carey (if he plays) and Stevens respectively, it will be a major plus for us as we will be able to keep Pavlich and McPharlin in the forward line where it seems that their mobility will expose McGregor and Basset. Whether our defence (which will be undersized on the day) can restrict your forwards will go a long way in determining the winner of the game. I'm not sure whether Riccuito will be fit for round one either..

I'm not sure why you say that McGregor won't be able to keep up with Pavlich as McGregor has actually done very well indeed in this preseason and has a pretty damn good fitness base.

Fitzgerald is no longer in the Crows squad ... that is why his name did not appear in the side I listed. I think you may have meant McGregor & Bassett - no problem with either one in terms of mobility - but a Bassett is a bit vertically challenged by some forwards, although I don't recall Freo as a team that presented that problem.

Ricciuto doesn't have a fitness problem - he has a chip of bone in his ankle. Once removed there is no reason why he shouldn't resume - so there is no reason to think why his return shouldn't be according to the predicted schedule - he will be playing round 1 I think.

Fair enough. I haven't focused on McGregor to watch how his pre-season has been thus far. Being a crows supporter you would know more about that than me. I know that McGregor has a strong physical presence, but I didn't think his fitness was as high as you say it is. Still, Pavlich has the fitness of a midfielder and few KPP can keep up with him. (Riewoldt is one that would be a chance)

Yes sorry, I got mixed up with McGergor and Fitzgerald. Will edit the original post.

Have you seen McPharlin run? The guy was a champion athlete in his junior days in 400m and 200m sprints. He is extremely quick off the mark and I doubt whether Basset would be able to keep up with him. I wasn't intending to imply that Basset has a mobility problem, I just don't think he would be quick enough to keep up with McPharlin.

Ok, when I said I "wasn't sure whether Riccuito would be fit," I meant I wasn't sure whether he will have recovered from his ankle injury by round one. He is scheduled to be out for six weeks.

I heard that McPharlin may not be fit for the round 1 clash, which would leave us without three of our key position players... What would we do if we were without McPharlin, Longmuir and Croad??
Parker and Polak could still play on Carey and Stevens but who will play at FF for us??

Clive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are already looking thin on the ground, so wouldn't want any more injuries or otherwise.

Another potential lineup is below. Clive to CHF and Pav into the midfield possible if the crazyhorse starts well.

Big Ask on Polak and Jones. Carr at FF very possible. Otherwise the Megastar at FF and one spare man in defence. IMO Adelaide's tranference from defence is not a strong point.

Sandilands to be the luckiest debutant going around.

B: Hayden Polak Parker
HB: Grover Jones Walker
C: Headland Cook McManus
HF: T. Longmuir Pavlich Waterhouse
F: Medhurst Carr Farmer
R: Simmonds Hasleby Bell

I: Sandilands, Woods, Hadrill, Cunningham

Can't really see Welsh being fit for round #1, but Carey & Roo should be OK. So possible matchups could be:

FB: Hayden.....Parker....Haddrill
FF: Bode......Carey...Burns

HB: Grover...Polak..Carr
HF: Burton...Stevens...Edwards

C: Headland...Hasleby...McManus
C: Ladhams...Riccuito....Stenglein

HF: T. Longmuir...Pavlich...Waterhouse
HB: Torney...........McGregor.......Smart

FF: Medhurst...McPharlin...Farmer
FB: Hart............Bassett......John ****

R: Simmonds...Cook.........Bell
R: Clarke....Goodwin...McLeod

I: Jones, Woods, Haines, Walker
I: Biglands, Perrie, Bickley, Doughty
