Interesting to see that there is no Boyle, we are possibly one tall forward short.

Who do you think will be dropped from the interchange?

I think that Murphy, Ries and Birchall will miss. I think it was a good move to name Birchall to give him a bit of confidence in knowing that he is very close to senior selection. He still may playhaving said that.

Also is it true that Guerra is carrying some sort of injury?

Hmmn .. Campbell at full back? Dicko had better show early season form to retain his place in the team and that includes melding in with Willo.

Congrats to Clinton Young in being chosen in the starting 18. The last 7 games of 2005 saw him named on the interchange .. but at the same time given plenty of game time and displayed some glimpses of class. My contacts at the club tell me he has had a good pre-season. Rather see him on the wing or hff to execute his deft footpasses to the forwards on the lead.

Importantly for Clint is Clarko likes him.

Hell! Bad news Buddy is missing with what seems to be a serious injury. Ankles can take a time to get right.

Didn't hear anything about Guerra, but I would have thought he'd be in the starting 18 so maybe he is carrying something.

Guerra, Ries, Dawson and Lewis are the ones I'd put on the bench, providing Guerra is alright. Miller the 1st Emeregency, then Murphy then Birchall.

The freo team is:

Fremantle (to play Hawthorn )
Backs: Walker Parker Johnson
Half-backs: M Carr Gilmore Mundy
Centres: Black Hasleby McManus
Half-forwards: Headland Pavlich Bell
Forwards: Longmuir McPharlin Farmer
Followers: Sandilands J Carr Rover: Schammer

Interchange: From: Cook Crowley Dodd Drum Medhurst Murphy Peake New: Marcus Drum, 18, Murray Bushrangers

Taylor not playing for us along with Franklin and as pointed out no Boyle, we do seem a bit light. Would suggest then that Dawson will be on the bench as some insurance both in ruck and down back. Not much insurance but something I suppose.

Shame Big Max didnt get a chance against Sandilands.

Looks like it will be Ozzie and Sewell taking Medhurst and Farmer. Croad will take Pav and Campell will take Mcpharlin. Lets hope Smith gives alot of run off the back flank and Jacobs can float across the packs.

Id rather see Clarke on the Forward Flank and Lado on the wing, and I think AC will rotate them. And im suprised to see Youngy in the pocket i doubt he will start there.

And Willow has to be the target up forward. Let Dixon give off an early lead to clear out the forward fifty and lets kick to the lead of willow with miller swooping on to crumb.

Lets give Murphs or Dawson a go up forward and let Roughie go FF because I love seeing us bombing it long into the forward line and with out a tall option inside the forward 50 we may not see it at all.

Ossie in for one reason I reckon, the size of the ground and they want the extra run he can bring. Very lucky.

Light on for experience and the forward line looks brittle as glass, which is a worry. Not to mention F/B either (because that's a damn sight bigger looking worry, Robbie at F/B??? Please no).

Can't say I'm overly confident on the head to head squads. They look 'on paper' far better balanced and with better overall depth. If we're to win it anywhere, need to get on top through the middle, the one area I reckon we do shade them for talent.

Sunday, hurry up and arrive.

I/C should be Guerra, Dawson, Miller, & Lewis.

IMO Sewell, Campbell, and Jacobs across the back don't seem such a bad matchup. But I wouldn't expect to see them line up that way on Sunday. I suspect Mr. Campbell will spend a lot of time in the ruck to preserve our #1 hammy, Spider, who will find himself in the forward line. Dawson should get a chance down back - with Roughead ready to head back if there is a problem -along with a literal flood of brown & gold. Might we see Williams and Everitt as the only two Hawks forward of center from time to time?

The midfield is where the Hawks can influence the outcome of this game the most. If Mitchell, Hodge, Crawford, Lewis, Bateman, Ladson, & Young dominate the center of the ground, the Hawks can put up a big number on the scoreboard and take the points. That's Fast-Break Footy - to borrow a basketball term - and a big score reduces the pressure on the defense and makes the matchups look better.

IMO - Low scoring game with Hawks < 75 points = probable Docker win
Hawks score > 95 points = probable Hawk win
It's that area in between 75 & 95 points that I cannot get a feel for.

Doing my best James T. Kirk impersonation and boldly going where no man has gone before, I prognosticate a 107 - 88 Hawks victory with Ladson a surprise BOG, closely followed by Jacobs and Hodge. Williams may kick 4-2.

Hmmm. Interesting. It's not a tall side. Barker, Franklin, Thurgood injured; not included: Taylor, Boyle, [Bailey?].

On the one hand, I'd expect to see both Dawson and Birchall on the bench because of our lack of height.

On the other hand, the game plan may be based on an expected weakness for us in the big men department this week - so we'll try to run them off their feet using an over-manned rotating midfield. This appears to be the likely strategy given the selections.

Hawthorn by 42 for mine. We've basically picked slow, scrappy players against a team that killed us with pace last year. If Hawthorn don't win I will be suprised. I'm being brutally honest and not pessimistic (which apparently I'm notorious for)

Nothing wrong with an honest opinion Kapow.

The way the Dogs used the new rules (continual movement, run, pressure) is how I hope we will go on Sunday. Not give your lot time/space to make use of the better credentialed forwards you have. If your lot can win equal amount of the ball though, I reckon we're in trouble.

Sounds like neither of us are to confident hey. ;)

Sunday will prove one of us wrong, hoping it's me.

DETAILS AURORA1.10pm tomorrow

The interchange bench is interesting. 3 defenders (Dawson, Guerra & Birchall and 1 midfielder (Lewis)

Me thinks Mr. Guerra may have do a little forward work this week.

Shame Franklin's not playing. Might have stretched Freo to the point of forcing them to move ex hawk McPharlin to defence.

I was thinking similar, Gren, as I watched last night's game. Considering the Doggies had only one real tall on their forward line (although Morgan impresses me) and Lewis was about their only 'quiet' player (not missing Darcy but what a bonus when he comes back) they have gotten around this by their style of attack, linking down the flanks with an abundance of skill and the switching to the corridor (as an option) at such a hectic speed the Tiges were absolutely bewildered. The Doggies were able to maintain the pattern right to the end of the game. They are a super fit and united outfit. Poor old Wallet had no answers and the material to withstand the onslaught.

I would imagine, Clarko, the astute person I believe he is, will keep the tape of this game to the fore on his library in his office. There is a lot to learn from the Bulldogs. Wow!!!
