FB: Johncock, Rutten, Stevens
CHB: Symes, Bock, Bassett
C: Knights, Thompson, Edwards
CHF: Porplyzia, McGregor, Reilly
FF: Burton, Tippett, McLeod
R: Maric, Goodwin, van Berlo
INT: Griffin, Douglas, Doughty, Vince

EMG: Mackay, Massie, Sellar

• I originally had Mackay in my team but after reading macca23 comments I think if it comes down to a choice between he and Vince we’ll go with Vince. I think the fact that there’s nothing left for him to prove in the SANFL will work in Vince’s favour. Mackay is very unlucky and is the first one to replace any injured midfielder. The injury to Knights could open the door for his debut...

• With Moran’s injury, Sellar is named an emergency. If either Maric of Griffin are struck down with injury, Tippett would probably have to ruck. We would then be too short up forward, therefore giving Sellar an opportunity.

• No room for Shirley because quite frankly, his PS form was appalling. I don't think we should have both he and Doughty in the same team, and Doughty clearly outperformed him during the NAB Cup.

• Defence is probably a tad too top heavy against a Western Bulldogs forward line that is very much on the small side. Perhaps then you’d throw Scott Stevens forward.

I'd be very similar to what you've got there Drummond, maybe a couple of minor positional changes, but Craig doesn't really play the traditional positions so at the end of the day it means jack squat.

I am suprised to see young Douglas getting a spot;). I think he'd also be fighting with Mackay and Vince for 2 spots IMO, knowing Craig though, Douglas will get the spot and Mackay will have to wait.

I wouldn't worry about the top heavyness of your defence as the bench is very short and we usually have one KPP on the bench and so you could easily swap him with one of the 3 mids on the bench, probably Doughty.

Drummond reckon your about 99% accurate with your round 1 team.

As said maybe some minor positional changes ...but players to play IMO your spot on.

Will be interesting with Symes ....most have him positioned off HB .....yet he appears on TV to have played a lot of his Crows footy off the wing but then roving deep into defence to rebound off HB?

Agree with your comments here Drummond.....:thumbsu:

my side updated from a few days ago...

Bassett, Rutten, Johncock
McLeod, Bock, Symes
Knights, Thompson, Reilly
Burton, McGregor, Edwards
Porplyzia, Tippett, Stevens

Griffin, Goodwin, van Berlo

Bench: Maric, Doughty, Douglas, Vince

Emerg: Sellar, Massie, MacKay

out: Gill
in: Knights

Sellar comes into the 25 for Moran

Does this open up a position for MacKay?

More likely both Vince & Douglas play, I guess.

It'll be out of Shirley and Mackay.

Much as I'd love to see Mackay given the nod, my gut feeling is that Shirley will play, with both Douglas and Vince also making the 22.

oh but C'mon on MacKay deserves this so much!!! I hope they give him a shot I really do! first match in Victoria he's from there all his friends and family would be there! the young lad will fire!

personally I hope MacKay plays, I also hope both Douglas and Vince get a run

I would not have Shirley in my side, has looked slow and ordinary over the NAB cup journey

I disagree. Unless Shirley's fitness has returned he shouldn't be in the side.

We usually attack when we play the doggies and I see nothing here to change that with this young side.

I'd bring in MacKay for this game.

my side:

Bassett Rutten Johncock
McLeod Bock Doughty
Symes Thompson Reilly
Goodwin McGregor Porplycia
Edwards Tippett Burton
1R: Griffin, Van Berlo, Douglas
I/C: Maric, Stevens, Vince, MacKay

Missing injured: Knights, Gill, Moran, Hentschell, Biglands,Gallman
Other: Sellar
Others "omitted": Shirley, Massie, Jericho, Campbell

I would personally have Sellar in the 22 in lieu of McGregor, however, i know they wont do that.
Anyway, i also have MacKay in the 22 but i'm willing to bet that they will select Shirley ahead of him - so much for our youth policy this year

the article about Knights injury did make me assume that Mackay would be debuting first round.

Sellar won't play, because there's just no room for him yet, but with some quality games in the SANFL, he should be pushing for selection at some point in time during the season.
Tippett however solidifed a round 1 spot after his performance against the Saints, which makes you wonder, if Sellar had played that game (instead of Campbell), then he would've had the opportunity to make a mark on the team as well. but he is younger, so some more time in the SANFL will do him some good.

I'd say closer to 20/80.

If we were playing a taller side those numbers might increase to 50 50

Totally agree.

From what John Reid was saying on 5AA last week, it really sounds like they're giving Sellar a full year in the SANFL and Tippett will spearhead. That way, Sellar can work on his craft and they can exploit Tippett's explosiveness and apparent "X-factor". Unfortunately, at this stage the Key Forward pecking order has McGregor, Tippett, Stevens, Hentschel (when fully fit) and Gill all before Sellar, it'll come down to injuries for him to get his opportunities.

Spewing Brad Moran injured himself. If there's one area in which we've been vulnerable defensively, it's been when teams have monster forwards or have dropped monsters back into the forward line. We could've really used him in Round 3 against West Coast in particular with Lynch, then Cox and Seaby rotating through. Throw Kennedy, Staker and Chad Jones into that mix and it could be dangerous...

So the team was just on the footy show.

Only player I from my dream team i cant remember seeing was Johncock.

Anyone see him there? I am sure he would have been.

The only teams which would have been released in time for TFS would have been the teams playing on Thursday night (Richmond, Carlton, Geelong, Port Adelaide). These team lists are all available on the AFL website.

Adelaide's team list should be available from 4pm this afternoon (EDST). As per usual for a team playing on Sunday afternoon, it will contain 25 players - 22 named in position and 7 on the interchange (including the 3 emergencies).

Not sure where TFS got their team list, but I suspect it was probably their "best guess", the same as ours have been this week.

New Crows in squad for opener
4:50 PM Thu 20 March, 2008

Two young Crows who had their first seasons at the club ruined by injuries are in line to make their AFL debuts on Sunday.

Forward Kurt Tippett and 19-year-old wingman David Mackay, both secured at the 2006 national draft, have been named in Adelaide’s 25-man squad to prepare to play the Western Bulldogs at Telstra Dome on Sunday at 1.10pm.

The third new face in the squad is midfielder Brad Symes, who was traded to West Lakes after 20 AFL games at Port Adelaide.

Also making its first appearance on Sunday will be Adelaide’s new away guernsey.

Missing from Adelaide’s NAB grand final team are Chris Knights (quad strain) and Brad Moran (fractured finger).

Tippett, 20, was the Crows’ second selection at the 2006 draft (No 32 overall). From Southport on the Gold Coast, the 201cm forward/ruckman fractured his neck soon after arriving in Adelaide and then needed a shoulder reconstruction early last season after getting injured in the SANFL.

Mackay’s 2007 season also finished early because of a recurring hamstring problem. But Adelaide’s third selection at the 2006 draft (No 48) played all of the NAB Cup games this season to push his name in front of the selectors.

Adelaide’s 25-man squad includes nine players with less than 30 AFL games experience. They are Jason Porplyzia (26), Symes (20), Richard Douglas (16), Ivan Maric (14), Bernie Vince (10), Jonathon Griffin (16), Bryce Campbell (1), Tippett and Mackay (0).

Crow Tyson Edwards will qualify for automatic AFL Life Membership on Sunday when he plays his 300th official game. Since his debut in 1995, he has played 266 premiership matches, 30 pre-season matches, one state of origin match and two international rules matches.

The team is:

B: Johncock, Rutten, Bassett
HB: Doughty, Bock, Goodwin
C: Douglas, Thompson, van Berlo
HF: Vince, Stevens, McLeod
F: Porplyzia, McGregor, Burton
R: Griffin, Reilly, Edwards
Inter: (from) Tippett, Shirley, Mackay, Symes, Maric, Jericho, Campbell.

A number of young Crows players will be involved in the last round of SANFL trials tonight (Thursday) and on Saturday. They include Tony Armstrong (North), Andy Otten and Myke Cook (South), Aaron Kite and Taylor Walker (Norwood), James Sellar (Glenelg) and Patrick Dangerfield, who will travel from his home near Geelong to play for West Adelaide.

Shirley, Jericho & Campbell to miss - at least that's where my money would be.
