Good effort GK, but I think you might need to differentiate between the Johnson M's a little more clearly ;) I'm not sure that the back pocket is my buddy's best spot. :D

Rash hasn't played a game yet, has he ???

Or Foster, there is zero chance of either of them being in the 25 Gerbil King.

I'm guessing from the team listed above that Crowley and Matt Carr will play and that Thornton and Black will miss out.

After a scratchy and ill disciplined performance against the roos Black needs to show considerable improvement against Port to play round one, otherwise he'll play 2 or 3 WAFL games at the start of the season. Black, Murphy, Campbell, Bradley and a few others will probably play WAFL next weekend during the gap between the NAB Cup and round one to try to improve their chances of playing against the Pies.

I'd have Black down at Souths this week dom. He was a long way off fit on Saturday and I doubt he's going to be right by round 1. Wouldn't hurt to let him know that he needs to pull his head in too.

The others may struggle to get a game next week though if the AFL have the same rules as previous years. They normally only allow players who have had a restricted pre-season due to injury and played maybe one or two games at most to play in that break week.

I'd be happy with that. :thumbsu: Black's a serial offender, might sned a clear message.

Anyone who has played all 4 NAB games probably won't be allowed, that's why I didn't list Drum. Not sure about the guys who will play 2-3 games, you're probably right.

Last time Blacky went back to Souths he was reported and given another week on the sidelines... :o

Hopefully he's had his pre-season brain explosion for this year IP. It's a good test for him - if he can go back and play well without losing his cool, maybe it's a sign that the message is getting through?

ETA : Some good news on Foster, he's down to 1 week on the official site injury list, so he may not be as far away as we think.

Filthy Souths players.

Are you looking for a cyber-smack across your cyber-gob????

More-so after the cyber-backside.

Either way it's a big target.

I've only seen the the Seth Efrica game and the derby but I'd have Kiwi in the team over Murphy for round 1. Unless Spud does something special this weekend.

Ibbotson was apparently our best last week, wasn't he? (I didn't see the game)Surely he's in the 22 on that form?

It's time for Drum to become first team. Reward his pre season with Round1 selection I say. See how he goes, which I think will be good.

You are a wise man Mr N.FuRY :thumbsu:

'08' will be the year of the Drum, the young padawan will take the extra step, he is ready ;)

Drum is a dead cert to play round one

Drum Grover Hayden

Black McPharlin Dodd

Mundy Carr J Peake

Bell Pavlich Solomon

Farmer Tarrant Campbell

R: Sandilands Headland Crowley

IC: Warnock Schammer Michael Johnson Palmer

Gilmore / Ibbo / Mayne / M Carr / M Johnson / Thornton

I would be tempted to play Gilmore over Warnock for added flexibility.

Is there a need for 3 talls in the forward line? Collinwood are struggling for key defenders so the answer could be yes? we need to space Tarrant, Pav and Campbell/Murph to ensure the defenders can't zone off and double and triple team Pav. Definitly have Sandilands spending time down there.

Collingwood will really struggle to contain Farmer, he has an outstanding record against the Pies, Clement is gone. Lockyer normally gets him which handily weakens the midifeld of the pies.

Crowley to tag pendlebury, Carr to Burns. Dane Swan will get Headland this could potentially be dangerous as Swan can hurt offensivly so Des will need his fellow midfielders to help.

Drum Grover Hayden

Mi Johnson McPharlin Dodd

Mundy J Carr Peake

Solomon Tarrant Crowley

Farmer Pavlich Campbell

R: Sandilands Schammer Headland

IC: Bell Warnock Palmer Ibbotson

Emerg : Gilmore, Black, Thornton, M Carr

Drum can be swung up forward. Ibbo, Palmer and Bell to rotate through the midfield. Mundy can go forward/back if required. Dodd to tag. Bell, Schammer to go forward if necessary.

This is the team that I think will run out in RD1

Hayden Grover Dodd
Mi Johnson Mcpharlin Black
Headland Crowley Peake
Bell Tarrant Soloman
Farmer Pavlich Ma Johnson
Sandilands J.Carr M.Carr
McManus Palmer Warnock Mundy

I would personally make 3 changes :
Schammer to replace Mark Johnson - We need more skill not toughness in our midfield. We have Soloman, Crowley and J.Carr to put pressure on the opposition midfields, what we need is another midfielder who can win the ball and give us more run. And Bell and Palmer who are at opposite ends of their careers can rotate through the midfield and the 2nd small forward position allowing us to pick another midfielder instead of Mark Johnson.
Drum to replace M.Carr - Drum to play in defence allowing Dodd a natural midfielder to play as the no.1 tagger in the midfield replacing M.Carr. M.Carr has been a great servant but I don't think he can run with the best midfielders anymore.
Gilmore or Ibbotson to replace McManus - Even with Sandilands and Warnock playing I still think Gilmore should play. Gilmore does have his flaws and another option is Ibbotson who in his 3rd season looks ready to go. McManus has been another great servant but while in the past we haven't anyone better to replace him I think now there are better options.

After saying all that I would be amazed if M.Carr and Mark Johnson (Harvey and Dean Wallis favourite) are not playing RD1.

If Ibbo isn't included that whole 'players have to earn their spots' cliche that i've heard countless times from the coaching staff this pre-season is a crock.

Mayne is another one I'd be keen to include, along with Palmer. Although I wouldn't mind seeing them debut at home against the hawks in Rnd 2.

Guy's like McManus, Carr (my buddy Matt), and Mark Johnson have shown nothing so far to suggest they are best 22 at this stage.
