The Marsh series is done, the pre season is just about done so we turn our attention to round 1 against the dogs. Very exciting! Thanks to Jen for her efforts across the whole pre season and also thank you to any other posters who attended training as well!

Both teams had similar Marsh series with both winning the first game comfortably and both losing the second game in a close one.

Should be a good game to watch with both teams expected to make finals and both being tipped by many as one of the teams that can win the premiership.

Can we turn around our poor round 1 record under Buckley? Fingers crossed! Discuss..

Really looking forward to this game and the start of the season proper. This far out, the most interest for me is in who will be named in both sides final squads for for game. Doggies have added a lot of tall timber over the last few seasons so it'll be especially interesting to see how they plan to use those players.

We match them in inside 50’s we win. Simple.
I’m not sold on their forward line. Roughy & Moore will shut down Schache & Bruce I’m pretty confident on that, don’t think their small forwards are too dangerous. Midfield is a huge battle though because theirs is star-studded, if Grundy can dominate English like last year should go a long way in ascending the midfield battle our way. Don’t like that it’s at Marvel though.

We better Turn Up to Play.

Cameron has to play ahead of Cox.

I would not Shocked IF WHE and Stepenson start in the VFL.

Sier/Rantall be ahead of Wills.

Playing a group that usually start the season well, on their own deck without at least one and maybe two main mids missing from our lineup?

Hmm...Pies by 5

Very tough game. Pundits have us as favourites...but we really struggled to beat them last year.

Their additions of Bruce and Keath will help. And after another preseason their fleet of youthful runners will be on the improve.

I am not saying I disagree with you, but I think the selectors will not drop WHE and Stephenson, or play Cameron ahead of Cox or Sier/Rantall ahead of Wills.

I am also bit Worried it's at Docklands and not the G

English looks to have put on some size this pre season from what i have seen, by all reports he beat Lycett as well on the weekend. Not saying Lycett is anything like Grundy but it probably wont be a mauling like it was the 2 times last year

Really? What has he done to justify a best 22 spot? I may have missed something.

Nothing I was hoping he would push for a spot.

The only 2 blokes who were not regular 22 from late last year pushing for selection are Daicos and Cameron

Really disappointed that we didn't have many blokes put pressure on the regular 22.

Bucks declared Adams will line up round 1, this is key to our game plan.

Have to win it in the middle (easier said than done I know), and the dogs won't be taking us lightly either.

Hard to pick but you'd be brave to tip against us. Pies by 10.

Bucks's declarations are a little like Colin Powell's before the Iraq war. Yeah, sure they have weapons of mass destruction. Sure.

Can’t wait for the real stuff to start. Think Daicos gets the nod for round 1 given the injury to Treloar.

One of Cameron and Cox will get the nod and gut feel says Cox gets first crack.

Back 6/7 will be Moore, Roughead, Howe, Crisp, Maynard, Noble and Mayne floating through. Pretty solid.

Wouldn’t mind seeing DeGoey start in the middle in the absence of Treloar.

Think we line up like this:

B - Howe Roughead Noble
HB - Maynard Moore Crisp
C - Mayne DeGoey Sidebottom
HF - Thomas Mihochek WHE
F - Elliott Cox Stephenson
R - Grundy Adams Pendlebury
INT - Wills Daicos Phillips Brown

pretty spot on, I’d say.

Round 1 v Bullants

B. B Maynard ~ J Roughead ~ J Noble
HB. J Crisp ~ D Moore ~ J Howe
C. T Phillips ~ S Sidebottom ~ C Mayne
HF. J De Goey ~ B Mihocek ~ J Stephenson
F. J Elliott ~ M Cox ~ W Hoskin-Elliott
R. B Grundy ~ S Pendlebury ~ T Adams
I. R Wills ~ J Thomas ~ C Brown ~ J Daicos

E. D Cameron, M Keane, J Madgen, T Brown

as I see the selection committee will go with, and to challenge a bit, who they will also name as emergencies.

Assuming Adams does play.

(For what it’s worth, I’d select, Scharenberg and Sier instead of Noble, Wills, but that’s just me.
I’d also name Murphy as an emergency instead of Madgen. Won‘t happen but that’s what I’d do.)
