ok now that we've got these bastards at home lets knock the cr@p out of them. we owe them from the judge era.

Round 10 2001 is the only Eagles game in living memory I have never seen live or on TV. I was working in Sydney on the day and in the airplane when the game was on. I arrived at Perth airport to be greeted with derisive laughter when I asked how we'd gone.

How far we have come. Thank you Woosha for bringing the pride back to our club.

Woosha was part of the enemy camp at that time.... imagine the conflicting emotions he had seeing us get absolutely slaughtered by over 100 points

Time to give it back to them IMO

VOR, that reminds me about Billy Sutherland. Apparently he has only ever missed one game as trainer. And it was because there was some strike with the airlines.

I just looked up my old EaglesFlyingHigh writeup on this game... I well remember the filthy mood I was in afterwards, and I'm amazed I was able to write something this positive...

'How To Play Football' by Carlton Football Club

By Jeff Scott
Date: 2/6/2001

West Coast suffered one of their worst ever defeats at the hands of Carlton at Optus Oval today. Although it was a reasonably honest and committed attempt at man-to-man football, the Eagles lacked the self-confidence to put any pressure on the Blues.

Carlton 6.2 13.7 16.14 21.23 149
West Coast 1.2 1.5 3.8 3.12 30

The final margin was the fourth defeat by a hundred points in the club's history, though it was short of the worst ever - the 142 point loss to Essendon in 1989.

It also brings up six consecutive losses for the fourth time ever for the Eagles - and for the third time since the start of last season.

It was clear from the outset that West Coast were 'going back to basics', and playing one on one football around the ground. The problem with that approach is that everyone is then too scared to leave their man and go for the ball. The lack of self-confidence became more apparent as the game went on - when the Eagles had the ball they were unsure what to do with it, tried to play safe, hesitated and invariably lost possession.

As expected, Troy Wilson gained a reprieve from being dropped, taking Richard Taylor's place in the team. Dean Kemp was also a late withdrawal, giving David Haynes his first game for 2001.

The return from injury of Scott Cummings saw the Eagles lineup with the twin attack of Cummings and Wilson. However, neither of them had any impact on the game at all - with two possessions and one point between them they may as well have stayed in Perth.

The usual people performed well for the Eagles - Ben Cousins and Michael Gardiner were solid in the midfield, and Daniel Kerr continues to play well. But once again there was not enough skill and experience around them. The backs tried hard, but had no answer against Carlton's strong marking forward line.

David Wirrpunda left the ground in the third quarter with what appeared to be an ankle injury, the full extent of which is unknown at this stage.

In all, it's a game the Eagles need to put behind them as they try to find a way to put together a competitive performance and salvage something from the wreckage of 2001.

I obviously wasn't in the mood to write a long review that day, but was contractually obliged to say something!!

All my EagleFlyingHigh stuff is still online apparently, even though it's nearly two years now since Rivals told us they couldn't afford to keep going. I might have a look through and see if I made any fantastic predictions that I can now boast about!

And do you own it or does Rivals? Might make a good donation to another fan site.
It's at westcoast.rivals.net

Anything I wrote remains mine, although I didn't keep my copies of the stories. (I've still got the stats and stuff that I compiled, and the photos as you'd have recently seen, but I deleted all the match reviews and other stories from my system in a bit of a dummy spit last year.)

Part of the deal when we got the axe was that we'd be provided with a CD of all our site material, but that never happened.

If anyone wants to pick up any stories for another site, please go right ahead (please retain my name in the credits for the story).

There's some interesting stuff there - I just found a story where I announced that Adam Hunter should be axed at the end of the 2001 season! Good thing the club never took any notice of my opinion! :D

Some payback is in order but as long as we get the win Im not all that bothered about the margin. Obviously a big win would be good so that our percentage can stay in good stead.

That Round 10 loss was rock bottom in the Judge era.

If I remember correctly, did Woosha approach Jak after the match and told him it was not the Eagles that he knew that had pride and guts?

I think it was from that point that Woosh decided it was time to come home.

hey scmods i was wondering if you had all those photo's on your rivals web-site in a zip file of some descrpition, I wouldn't mind adding them to my collection, so that we can get a really big database of pics going....

I posted a location where you can find them all in another thread... here

Is that OK, or do you want them all in one big file rather than downloading one at a time? It would be about 11MB if so.
