Update: cross out Switta and uncross out McVee.

Out: people caring about average performances against dogshit when we been knowing this team don't care about statpadding
In: sanity

Except it wasn’t just this week, he’s been poor all year, this week was just the culmination.

Honestly McVee is that bad that I’d rather see Banners in. Yes we are at that point.

Now THIS is a danger game and one I can easily see a slip up coming before we right the ship against Brisbane. Ross seems to always know how to beat us and gets his team up for our games.

Pearce will not be playing, hopefully Dudley is ok
OTOH, what’s Ross’ record on Friday nights? Can’t remember winning many under him

Edit: Quick google shows he’s lost the last 10

Do posters realise Walker has had back-to-back concussions at Peel and likely to have a bit of a spell not playing at all. I swear people just throw names out there without any knowledge whatsoever. Watch a Peel game every now again.

Simpson is building but no showing the sort of form to displace McVee. If anyone is likely to displace him it would be Banfield and I know how popular that comment will be. Banfield was emergency for this game so is next in line off the HBF.

McVee has been underwhelming at times. That missed handball way over Cox’s head against Hawks was unforgivable. He did miss for illness recently - likely same illness as Voss and he took a couple of weeks to come good.

Really doubt we will see McVee > Banfield change for next week.

Sweeping reply - anyone who thinks McVee isn't better than Banfield, Simpson or Walker is an opinion immediately worth disregarding.

For some strange reason, people's ideal small defender looks like Colby McKercher - outside squib who can't defend his own shadow but gives you a couple pretty touches. McVee has been 1 of the best contest and ground ball winning general defenders in the league who also holds his own aerially.

I'm not gonna pretend it's a coincidence that we're suddenly not giving away crappy crumbing goals like we did last year against Gold Coast.

Simpson is the type to perform better at AFL level though.

Don't think McVee would be doing any better playing in the Peel backline than Simpson.

Yeah, his defending is elite, frustrating couple of weeks watching him though. Before getting sick I thought he was fantastic for a few games

Glossing over some of the disposal problems of the backline has been Chapman getting back to his best with regards to kicking and decision making. I think it's papered over a few of the cracks when coming out of the backline and even Clark has had more than his fair share of clangers lately.

We really really need another elite user out there but having only one of those guys at Peel who isnt exactly banging the door down is a bit of a list management issue. Given we apparently sold McVee on being able to be more attacking with us I have to assume we thought he could be another good user but he hasnt exactly looked great offensively.

Hopefully we address it at the draft this year.

Anyone sore - out.
We’ve got some depth, if we need some fresh legs bring a couple in.

Otherwise no change is fine unless Pearce is good to go

Just keep rotating the guys who are struggling physically, have full confidence in our reserves at the moment

I think O'Meara will be close this week. If he's right to go I expect he'll come straight in.

McVee is part of a settled back 6 in a winning team so I can't see any pressure to omit him, but my goodness he was bad today. Not his first bad game either. Needs to stay in and string together some good ones.

Your first paragraph is certainly true. They sit and loik for the tiniest of mistakes from some.
McVee is taking time to settle. Not sure he will get dropped, but If he does I would like to see Simpson get a crack. From memory he was playing ok at Peel last year but was selected and played well before his shoulder injury.

honestly not to fussed with Mcvee he has good moments and bad moments but so does all our back line. The real test will be how he goes against Papley, cameron, mannagh again. Really don’t care how he plays against an Essendon because they are irrelevant

Banfield has no run and his one on one is loose. Don’t understand the push unless he was to be playing half forward and kick goals.

McVee is good defensively. Disposal has been awful pretty much every game. Fairly certain we recruited him for his good disposal and run of half back. He needs a spell in the WAFL

Then immediately undoes his work by turning it over and costing a goal so is a net negative. It’s not difficult maths.

I’d agree but there are a few things I’d like to see him improve on at Peel for which McVee has him slightly covered. One on one defending. He has also been biting off some nice shorter options but reluctant to bite off longer kicks - possibly due to him not getting upfield and taking the game on a bit more. He isn’t far off - I’ve seen improvement each week from Simpson.

McVee coming back from illness maybe give him another week. He was average last week a bit better today. Voss really average against WB, mildly better against Hawks and played a good game today. My point is that illness took a few weeks to fully recover from.

He stays for now and Simpson and Banfield keep pressure on for next in line.

What have you done.

Very very important game to ice and move on at all costs. We need to keep that 2 game buffer for when we inevitably lose a few during the season. The Saints are a bogey side for us. Win this one and we are 10-1. We would only need to win 6 more games to secure top 3.

Get on it Wako we are going all the way this year! I feel it even more than 2013!!!!

There is no way on earth McVee is elite or one of the best general defenders in the AFL.
There's also no way on earth Banfield is better than him.
The truth lies in the vast middle ground between those two extreme views I have read on here this afternoon
