Awesome win on Sunday!!
Does anyone know how to pronounce Traeger correctly? I heard one announcer pronounce it in the replays as Tray-ger, with emphasis on the G, but when i was watching it on channel 7, the commentator pronounced it Tray-jer, with more of a J sound.

Speaking of players in the similar ilk to Sam Fisher.

Media saying that the Battle and Barass recruitment is not working at the Hawks. Sometimes the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Battle could/should have stayed been a one club player and still got great coin for doing so.
Take him back for pick 60…

I'm more than 50/50 on Nas staying after reading his comments about Ross and his mates at the club. Money won't make him leave. His reception in Alice where he was idolized by the Saint's indigenous kids didn't hurt either. Hopefully after the bye we'll get the news we all crave.

We can't afford to lose our best player and hope to move forward as a club regardless of the compensation and our future recruitment.

I thought it was with a G sound.

Imagine being expected to perform without your best midfielder and missing one of your most important defenders. I guess it would be even worse if your best tall forward was out.

To be fair their best tall forward is probably Mitch Lewis who is always injured like King and then they lost Calsher Dear who is like their Sharman.

Will Day is a pretty special footballer .... the fact that he has that much influence over the Hawks winning & losing .... bit like the Bont for Dogs

Would be very close to the top of my list if you had to choose one opposition player to come to the Saints

Injury history would be a concern though

Trav did a nice move yesterday, gathered a ball mid air, but before he hit the ground his legs were already running. He hit the ground and he was off without delay. Most players tend to prop, then run.
I reckon his intent when he possesses the ball is first rate, and his ability to follow up with his run is also very good.

Like NWM I think as his athletic profile improves he’s going to be enjoyable to watch.

I really like him. Seems to get better every game and looks like a genuine first round pick now. I thought he was low bust but lower ceiling. Off HB he looks like an apex predator. A stark white shark...or albino alligator or something.

Hundred per cent re the ability to get the ball and essentially already have his legs moving. The most essential skill to be a mid too imo.

Fully expect better from the team going forward with Macrae back and Steele looking to be back to his best.
Just having more experience back in the team makes us better as we saw with Butler back in.
And having Stocker and Phillipou back will also help.

Still we are missing King and Howard but will they every get back to playing AFL consistently again.

Never know the development of Keeler and Hammer could end up making us far stronger.

Consistency and connection. Those two Butler marks at the top of the square, one kick from Sharman and the other from Wood. They just knew where he'd be and what to do.

I've defended Hunter for his whole career, so it's good to see some positive comments out of this game. I understand the best ability is availability, but he is a genuine point of difference in our otherwise standard midfield. Dual sided, very crafty at winning the ball in and under, can turn into traffic with confidence, and has the ability to pick out options that other players can't because of his threat of kicking on both sides. I know he's not Pendles or Sam Mitchell, but he has moments that resemble their unique playstyle, and it's why I can't quit him.

If he can get a decent run at it, he will complement our midfield perfectly moving forward.

With the likely return of Macrae & Stocker after the bye.

I suggest both the unlucky Boxshall & Carroll will make way.

Also, Henry seemed to be back near to his best for Sandy.
Maybe he could come in for Byrnes.
Not that I think Byrnes isnt playing an important team role. He's going ok in my opinion.
Just that Henry has more speed & X-factor.

This next bit is going to be controversial, but I suggest that the team needs 1 more taller player in the team.
So, im picking Tauru to come in for, the only player I can think of who could make way, is Travaglia.

Henry is getting better. He can't play the role that Byrnes has been playing.
I think Henry is somewhere in amongst Hall, Butler, Higgins, maybe Hill or Phillipou for a spot, and he's behind most of them right now.
Not sure Stocker is an automatic in for Carroll.

Byrnes is a Lyon favorite. Soul player. Bangers and mashed potatoes. That’s my conclusion. Henry may have ‘X’ factor but he’s also got ‘Z’ factor. Zero impact factor. I’ve watched his comebacks so far. Two or three harmless ineffective games, followed by some brilliance and then an injury. Of course we hope. Of course he’s got more skills and magic than Byrnes but..? (And his injuries are generative so I wouldt bank on him)

So our team for the game this thread was about was:

Defenders: Wilkie, Caminiti, Webster, Sinclair, NWM, Travaglia, Hill
Forwards: Sharman, Keeler, Owens, Higgins, Butler, Hall, Wood
Midfielders: Marshall, Steele, Windhager, Clark, Boxshall, Jones, Byrnes, Phillipou (Carroll)

I would expect Pou to miss at least a week and be replaced by Macrae. If Pou gets up then its Boxshall (only 49% ToG last week).

I would also bring Stocker in for Travaglia. Trav stiff but we need Stock.

Henry is being kept out by Hall right now as the high half-forward.

There is some position switching that could happen (Trav plays Byrnes' role for example) but I can't see it.

Did you watch his games last year, when he was fit & firing. Turned a couple of games for us with his speed out of the centre & his X-factor.

I heard Nathan Buckley saying that coaches would rather play a C grader that goes 100% every game than a guy who is sometimes A and sometimes D. Fans love the thrill of brilliance but coaches like a known quantity when they plan for a side.

Byrnes is a consistent C.

Wilson to play 2s for a while?

Wilson, Trav, Hugo, Henry, Tauru under Boyd at Sandy should be worth a watch. Henry really showing signs now, looking set for a 3 brownlow vote final game of the year, Hanners style.

When the team is inconsistent, if you want to bring in a player that's likely to be flaky you replace someone flaky.
Byrnes is a workhorse.

Max Hall has taken Liam Henry's spot this year and been an extremely consistent performer. He may not have quite the ceiling as Henry (i.e. the pure brilliance) but Hall is more consistent and is supremely fit.

Henry will eventually come back in and find his groove but it's an uphill battle at the moment. Until he is fit enough to rotate through the middle then I think he keeps playing VFL.
