Weve done the dogs now lets lick some pussy!!

Both these sides have an interesting set of stats over the years ...

Out of the past 17 games Adelaide have won 9 and Geelong 8

In the last three games Geelong have won 2 and Adelaide 1 with superior goalkicking by the Cats (42 goals 23 behinds) pretty darn accurate at 65% being the defining factor.

Possible Geelong Lineup

B: Sanderson Scarlett Sholl
HB: White Harley McGrath
C: Rahilly Riccardi Ling
HF: Clarke Graham Burns
F: Kingsley Mooney Grgic
Ruck: King Corey Bartel
Int: Enright Lord Ablett Chapman

I doubt whether Burns will be left out although there is some doubt over disipline and back complaint according to media reports tonite.

Adelaide should remain the same except for Roo and Nelson Omissions and perhaps Crowell and Massie inclusions

If Adelaide maintains its desperation at the ball and hassles the young Cat side I believe we can win this game well by dominating the centre clearances- Of course kicking straighter will help. Weve kicked 37 goals 46 in our last 3 games against the Cats at a woeful 44%

One thing Ayres will want is a first up home ground win where the footy starved Crow faithful will be full of voice.:o

Adelaide should win this one. Over-confidence or "expecting it to just happen" are the main dangers I would think.

Crows need a replacement for Roo, although it can't be said that Roo was pivotal in round 1. I think probably Crowell will get the spot. I'm not sure if either Massie or Gallagher has done enough yet to displace Nelson. If Clarke is not ready or down on form, perhaps Marsh could get a run?

Marshy is not up to it sadly

Marshy has done nothing to earn a game this week, sorry but I think he is on the outer, Clarke & Biglands have to be first priority picks before Marsh.

I think they will make only one change and bring in Gags or Massie for Roo. If Roo doesnt come up next week then, I think they will make some adjustments as we have some tough games coming up next month. I don't think they will want to make too many changes just yet.

I heard that McGregor should be available this week. Personally I wouldn't play him ahead of Biglands, Clarke or Marsh but the selectors seem to like him. 1 poor game from Clarke shouldn't get him dropped though, after all he is usually by far our best knock ruckman.

Gallagher would make a nice replacement for Roo and give him chance to play a big part in the midfield rotation. I've mentioned before I like Crowell but he's not a replacement for Roo.

Our record at Footy Park was lousy last year and the club really needs to work on getting back that massive home gound advantage they used to have.

McGregor would have to go through at least one SANFL game before he got back into the side, wouldn't he?

Gallagher for Roo is OK, in fact whichever player of Gallagher, massie or Crowell I would have said.

Winning in the early rounds, and winning a better percentage of games at Footy Park where precisely the two factors that Ayres & coaching panel have targetted as what Crows must do to improve this year. This game qualifies under both categories, so it should be the #1 priority game to make sure Crows win.

PS: I would only consider Marsh if there was a problem with Clarke. Is Clarke injured, or perhaps underdone? If neither, then keep Clarke in the side.

PPS: What is the status of Bienke?

Possible Matchups

AFC FF: Edwards Fitzgerald Schell
GFC FB: Sanderson Scarlett McGrath

AFC HF: Burton Stevens Bode
GFC HB: Grgic Harley Scholl

AFC C: Johnson Stenglein Doughty
GFC C: Rahilly Riccardi Ling

AFC HB: Smart Perrie Johncock
GFC HF: Clarke White Burns

AFC FB: Hart Bassett Bickley
GFC FF: Kingsley Graham Lord

AFC R: Biglands Goodwin McLeod
GFC R: King Corey Bartel

AFC I (from): Clarke Welsh Gallagher Beinke Massie Crowell Shirley Nelson
GFC I: Mooney Enright Ablett Chapman

Changes

IMO, Gallagher should come in for Roo & either Beinke (or Massie if he is not fit) for Nelson.

Probably run Stenglein with Riccardi & go all out attack with the rest of the midfield. Not sure who should line up on Graham. Bassett probably if he plays @ FF & Perrie if CHF. However, if White plays CHF, Smart is probably a better (mobile) option than Perrie. Would like Johncock given Burns (if he plays). Kingsley is under-rated with Hart or Smart the best matchups. Lord also need to be watched. I would reward Biglands after last weeks effort with first crack in the ruck against King.

Should be aiming too boost the percentage with an 8+ goal win (if the weather is fine).

PS If Clarke is not fit, I still wouldn't bring in Marsh!

Ben Hart said on 5AA tonight, Gallagher is ready to play.
Apparently Ladhams and Massie had a clash of heads tonite with Lads coming off second best. Hope they are OK

Its nice to know theres a bit of competitive spirit infecting the Crows with two big clashes in the last 4 days, as long as we go easy on the injuries

Will Roo remain out for the Sydney clash do you think? Im a bit with you Jerome about unforced changes -Maybe Nelson will get the benefit of the doubt on his home track

I also heard that Perrie left the track early too but should be OK. If there is one group in our squad that we need firing its our defence. They will have some tough gigs in coming weeks - Swans, Power, Bombers and Tiges. We need that group settled so I can't see Kenny getting in unless there is an injury. I reckon Nelson will get a run at home this week too. The comments about Marsh are a real concern. I hope he extracts the digit and starts playing some good footy. The idea that we may need to recruit 2 young ruckmen for next season does not thrill me.

Need To Win

Crows need to win at least the next two games as we have a tough three weeks after that with Essendon,Port and Richmond but these games will be a good test to see where we are at the moment and remeber we are going to have these teams at the end of the year aswell.

McGregor may be underdone and will probably spend at least a week in the SANFL, but Ayres may want him to match up on Graham. We are "short" of big defenders - Smart, Hart, Bassett, even Stevens are all giving away plenty of weight to a player like Graham and will find it difficult to go body on body with him.

Because of this McGregor is a very important player for the Crows. Our only other defender with some size (except Biglands when he goes back) is Hewitt and he is underdone and honestly, he was pretty ordinary last year.

Gallagher should come in for Roo - a midfielder for a midfielder. Crowell is a chance for the bench. He gives plenty of options for the coach as he can play just about anywhere, which is very, very handy.

Biglands is a hugely underrated player. Whenever he gets a decent run he plays very well for us.

Beinke

Stevo for Club Champion in 2002!

Are we in danger of having too many forwards? Schell, Fitzy, Stevo, Welshy, Burton and now Beinke?? A forward for a mid-fielder? I would have thought that Andy Crowell or Gallagher would have been better options. Oh well, only time will tell!

Both Burton & to a lesser extend Welsh should be given more of a run in the midfield. Bickley can play in the midfield as well. Come to think of it I don't think it will matter who will play in the midfield against Geelong, as they are very inexperienced (with the exception of Riccardi). Happy with the Beinke selection after he proved his fitness for the magpies last week. Just hope he can string a few games together without getting injured. IMO, the Crows hierachy want Gags to get more match fitness under his belt before getting a game for the Crows. Probably fair enough too.

I'm happy with that

I have a lot of time for Beinke and believe that lack of game time has made it impossible for hime to settle in the side and play good consistent footy. He's got great hands and can take a good mark amongst several opposition players. I hope Ayres gives him a good run this year.

I like the idea of Beinke working Fitzy and Schell. Fitzy and Schell can lead, Binks can park in the goalsquare for the one on ones.

Throw Macca or the Birdman forward for a quarter and it's starting to come together.

A couple of articles for those of you avoiding AFC site:

They really need to find another pic of Benny Hart on the AFC site...

Beinke is interesting...I think Welsh used to play on a wing at North so, we may be able to develop another player to add to the midfield rotation.

A little know fact, that I don't think has been mentioned...The only times AFC have won in both Rounds 1 & 2 in the one season are 1993 and 1996. Both years we won in the first three rounds. A win tomorrow would avoid our poor starts of previous years, reinforce our home ground advantage and give us one of our best starts to the year in ages.

No doubt the hierarchy are preparing for a possible Geelong flood and want as many forwards capable of taking a catch :p Beinke has strong hands and together with Schelly, Fitzy and Stevo, there's a few blokes there that can take an aerial mark. And of course there's also the Birdman.
