Opinion Round 2 - The Positives Thread

1. Will Hoskin-Elliot already looks like he was worth a second round pick, especially given our recent record with second round picks.
2. We are undefeated in April so far this season.
3. At last check, Jamie Elliott and Daniel Wells are still alive.
4. Grundy is becoming a gun.
5. To the best of my knowledge, no time loop has come into being which would ever cause me to have to re-live that game again.
6. Two games of Chris Mayne's 4-year contract have been served already.
7. Tim Broomhead appears healthy despite having inadvertently played a game of AFL football.
8. We can still beat Carltank this season. Maybe.
9. Varcoe is back for next week, providing he doesn't run past the ball to lay a bump on his dog in the next 7 days.
10. Jesse White is taking it upon himself to have a score assist in every one of Treloar's goals.

13. I had already unfollowed Collingwood on twitter prior to the season starting, so I didn't have to read nauseatingly misplaced positivity during the game, or empty answers to rhetorical questions in post-match press conferences.

The melts - haven't dissapointed :D

WHE was good, provided run, is good in the air, finished well (a few clangers not withstanding)
Broomhead was encouraging, got enough of the footy to persist with and is a quick thinker, was prepared to to chase and apply pressure
Goldsack very solid, best game from him in a while imo
Moore did OK and worked hard to provide a target on a quality defender
Schade solid (one awful blue though)
Grundy gave the Nank a fair old hiding (which was in no way reflected in SC scoring, but I have the Nank and won't be storming the barricades)
Aish was OK without setting the world on fire first up
Mayne was OK, played his part.
Adams' disposal let him down at times (and probably always will), but worked tirelessly.

All in all, it's hard to be crook at them, they're trying.

WHE, Grundy and Howe are the only positives.

Non playing positive is we now have 21 weeks to find a new coach, no excuses finding the best person now.

Grundy - If he doesn't get the 3 Charlie votes for that effort then there is no justice. His work when the ball his the turf was absolutely fantastic.
WHE - This kid is special. While I'd like to see them eradicated, at this early stage I can excuse the odd clanger or 2.
Howe - Was rock solid, his marking as always, a treat.
Pendles - Did as Pendles does.
The Sack - Clearly his best game for the year.
Broomy - Great to see him back, will be better for the run.
White - If his last 2 weeks are the minimum we can expect from him he'll have a good year.
Moore - Better again this week.
Umpires - Were pretty average really but at least we seemed to get the rub of the green for periods of the game.
Tigers supporters - I'm not sure the Tigas get any better than that. Nearly a full squad to choose from. Their supporters are insufferable now but the fall from grace will be great to watch.

Mayne didn't play too badly last night, one bad miss for goal, but he generally looks a calm player. Howe's first quarter and Goldsack's first half are other positives. While both had less impact as the game went on it seemed from the tv that Richmond stopped kicking to contests with either present.

- Blair has really put his hand up to be dropped next week. He's made a really strong case that's gonna be hard to ignore, even for Bucks.
- THATSGOLD has gone all quiet on his man-love for Schade
- Kirby, Daicos and Brown firming for debuts this year
- Moore didn't get any falcons

Great Success

For all the simple blame Buckley talk (which is always the easier thing to do) we've clearly had control of parts of the match in Round 1 and 2 and certainly enough of the ball to win the game. Not putting control of the game onto the scoreboard has been the issue, compounded by the numerous missed chances across the first two games. Missing simple shots at goal (which is outside of Buckley's control) has been the killer so far. Buckley's gameplan has given us more than enough control to build decent leads but the opportunities aren't being taken.

So that's what I'm seeing as a positive because at times over the last couple of years we've looked like we just don't have any answers. Despite two frustrating losses this year we've looked like a different team. Case in point, in games last year it felt like if we were losing in the last quarter and the opposition got a goal the heads would drop and we would be run over. Look to be able to stop the bleeding for the most part so far this year.

I wouldn't have thought you'd have cared too much either way x 40,000.
Caring about melts nah, you right.

Just knew they would happen.

Note the :D

That should have given a clue.

Some people melt, some don't.

We all have different ways of handling

Disappointment management

I see our issues being significantly mental. The yips in front of goal are contagious and compound with every miss.

When we are on we are on and when we are off we are off. There are two Collingwood's and because of that I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if we beat the Swans this weekend and Fasolo kicks 6 goals 0 behinds.

Strangely I feel that we are better this year than last but it just hasn't clicked yet. But there is something to work with. The positives for me is that I think we can turn this around with some tweaking. It is a long season but lots of people feel that it is over already.

Treloar almost implied as such on SEN after the game last night. From memory, he suggested that the team didn't execute the gameplan properly for long enough. He suggested that when something goes wrong (i.e. missing a target by foot) they don't seem to have the confidence to keep trying, instead, reverting to the conservative approach to kick it long down the boundary (which isn't the way they want to play). Could be wrong but that was the gist of it from my memory.
