Round 20 Captain Selection.

Here are the round 20 captain stats, once again the scores next to the Av. The players average against their opponent and the scores after the / are the players past 3 scores against their opponent, I have also added a few of my thought on each game as well. The recent History is the teams record against each other over the past 5 games. Hope this helps you all.

Game Notes;
You would think that Cornes will get the job on Swan, but as we all know Swan is a very hard player to tag, and has a solid record against the Power, Cornes also has a very impressive record against the Pies. Both teams average around the same amount of possessions hitting around the 346 mark each.

Not much to note here, Adelaide average around 40 more touches a game than Essendon. Nathan Bock has been in solid form all season running off the half backline, averaging around 22 possessions a game and scored 95 last time they played.

Both teams average around the same possessions with around 350 a piece, Melbourne averaging about 10 more marks a game as well. Brad Green has a good record against the Eagles and you would expect that he would be playing around a kick and a bit behind the ball as he has been doing a lot of the year.

Geelong averaging a massive 80 more touches a game but I guess that’s no surprise with the huge difference in game plans. Gary Abletts first week back and picked up from were he left off scoring over 100 once again his 10th time for the year. Ryan O’Keefe has been I great form of late averaging about 21 possessions for the year but doesn’t have the best average against the Cats scoring just 63 and 69 from his past 2.

Excellent work Hirdy. Awesome captain posts by you every week. Not sure who to go with this week. Kornes, Ablett (yes, I do know hes playing Sydney) and maybe Coxy. Ablett could post a decent captain score. Isnt affected by the Sydney curse as much because he tends to get alot of contested possessions

Tough week this one with the Cats playing the Swans. After sitting out last week and not giving any advice i think i'll throw my two cents in this week seeing as though it a much hard round to pick a captain from and people might need a little more advice.

First off the Cats Swans game. Last time Ablett, Stokes, Bartel and S.Johnson killed it all scoring over 110+ but other quality players struggled to score well with Chapman (88), Corey (71), Mackie (73) and Milburn (42). Its a big risk as one of the DT rules is not to put a captain against the Swans but they aren't in great form a could be a blow out if they don't come to play. I don't want to say don't but a Cats player captain but i wouldn't really advise it.

My top 3 picks this week:

1. Dean Cox - This could change if the weather is shocking because the game is at the MCG. If weather stays away, he will dominate and will have have a 30+ point head start over everyone. Demons struggle in the ruck, probably the most obvious choice this week. Again, i stress the fact that if the weather turns soar, you'd probably be better to look somewhere else.

2. Brett Deledio - Playing Hawthorn who are deplorable at keeping midfielders quite. Other than Dane Swan two weeks ago, which really wasn't his fault as Malthouse told him to play more forward than in the midfield, the top midfielders score hundreds at will. Just look at the Lions last week even though they lost by 60 points, Adcock 122, Johnstone 119, Power 106, Black 100 even Brennan (playing more in the midfield) 114. Adelaide tried to stop him last week with Shirley going to him for a while but couldn't. In great form and i'd expect a very high score from Deledio this week playing at the MCG.

3. Matthew Pavlich - He's been fantastic this year averaging 100 and only once has he dropped below 85 so he's very consistent. He played a little more up the ground on the weekend which helped him alot. There isn't really an obvious match-up for him as he won't really play inside 50 all the time. I can see maybe S.Fisher or Gilbert getting a job if he pushes up the ground but shouldn't worry him much. Fremantle are in very good form which also improves his score and he'll be dirty after last weeks miss. Again, just like Cox, you have to look at what the weather is doing being because it can effect tall players.

By all means pick Ablett or Bartel (not Corey though) but keep in mind there is a risk of being shut down a little and not producing their best.

Other good options or options that might have issues are:

Tyson Edwards and Nathan Van Berlo - Both obviously playing the Bombers at the TD where Welsh should go to Thompson and McLeod being the second in line for attention. Both should run free and rack up the touches and tackles at will.

Kane Cornes - I don't have the guts, the tagging jobs have just put me off him. Should still score well, likely to go to Swan or Pendlebury. If Swan he might be playing as a backman a little more than he is used to.

Nick Riewoldt - Just not confident with him at the moment. Big ground sub which should suit him but the issue is whether Lyon plays him up the ground. He's started him inside the 50 for the past few game then moved him after half time. As long as it doesn't rain could still score very well but he wary of Lyon's stupidity.

Brad Johnson - Could be a very good option playing the Lions, a team he loves playing against. 112 early this year and is in great form over the past two weeks. Also noticed him playing down back racking up the cheap touches down back which helps him alot. Played loose man for half a quarter and pushes up the ground more. No really match-up so can score well again.

Lance Franklin - Struggled last time against the Tigers with a 58 but did score 7 behind so if he had his kicking boots on it could have been different. High risk high reward is always the go with him but if the rain is around, i wouldn't risk it.

Luke Hodge and Sam Mitchell - One will get the redhead Daniel Jackson for the day but should effect their score to much. If the Tigers are on their game might struggle a little because of the Tigers chip-chip game but more than likely this won't happen. Probably better options then the two but if you have the urge, they both should score pretty well.

Dane Swan - Likely to get Kornes, will probably effect him a little but he hasn't been in great captain form so probably better options.

Scott Thompson - Did pretty well against Jackson last week scoring 100 and will probably get Welsh this week but might not effect him to much. Priddis was able to score pretty well with Welsh on him for most of the day, he didn't really play to tight on him. Probably better and safer options but he has potential to score big.

Nathan Brown (Richmond obviously ) - As i've said, Hawthorn give up midfield points like no tomorrow so depending on how long he spends up the ground, he could be another roughie like Deledio. Hawthorn are pretty good at stopping forwards so as long as he plays up the ground, he will score well.

Weather will play a factor so have a look closer to Friday to see if it will affect your players.

Mackie wont rip out a 130 against Sydney mate.... my selections are Kornes, Bartel, Ablett, and Deledio.... Ablett would be a safe choice as those contested possies suit him with sydneys style.... but right now im thinking Kornes... my order is:

If Richmond play against Hawthorn the way i think they will, which is tag Foley and let Deledio play off someone.... he has the potential to get 150...

Riewoldt likes playing freo and anyone who can split their hand...run off for some stitches, a jab and a glove..then come back on and score 105..good enough for me. His hand wasnt causing problems so cant imagine it will this week.

Wont pick Bartel against my mob on an unfamiliar ground for him...not a huge risk and should get 100+ still but its policy.

Over Kornes, Pav, Riewoldt, Ablett, Bartel, Hodge & Cox.

Franklin's a huge risk, IMO. Kelvin Moore is a pretty good match up for Buddy. He only scored 58 (albeit kicking 1.7-ish, IIRC) Vs Tigers in Round 6. The Tigers are pretty stingy conceding DT points.

Calvin Moore and Thursfield were among the tigers best in the terrible performance on Sunday, I'd be hesitant to put buddy as skip against them, they are quite under-rated and will work well for eachother. There's probly a bigger chance he'll kick 3.5 or 2.7 than the 8 he needs for a really good captain score to make the risk worthwhile.
