You know your team is no good when you turn the game off half way through the second quarter.
Honestly, a mate of mine coaches the local Under-15's team, and they've just made it through to the grand final - I am not even slightly joking when I say that their skills are far more advanced than ours were today.

Yeah I know they are kids and all of that, but it was the most basic football skills that you learn first up that we failed at today. I'm all for the youth policy but we MUST have atleast a few senior players in our side as well.

We would have been beaten by 150 if we were playing Collingwood/Geelong today. Shocking. Must improve over the last 2 weeks of the season, and Cousins's contract must be renewed, before I consider renewing my membership.

LOL. :thumbsu:

You would probably be right. Then again, this poster doesn't post on the Carlton board to my knowledge so that is a little sus. Considering he is being an annoying pain in the ass, he deserved to be red carded. A little unfair that you can't discuss your own team in peace.

Discussing your own team comes with conditions on here considering we can all access everyone's boards. You rule with a communist fist. Fact. I hate your board and I hate your mods. You seem to be the best of a very very bad bunch.

In our defence we do have the second highest winning margin in the league. 49.4 points. When we win we win big...likewise when we lose (37.2).

Carlton played very well today. We were awful, but you need to acknowledge your opponents when the time is right. I still don't rate your coach, but your list is developing. I don't think you will do anything this year, but in the next couple of years I think you can do some damage (if the coach goes).

Post looked likely today, was interested in seeing Gourdis but never got round to seeing what no. he was.

Martin was quiet early on when it counted but showed scary signs of how good he'll be with a more developed body and a few preseasons...slung/fended off Simpson with one arm and out muscled JUDD a few times :thumbsu:

for those bagging Carlton...be graceful in defeat and acknowledge you don't get to finals footy for no reason.

Congrats on a very competitive 3rd quarter guys. It's often referred to as the premiership quarter so you gotta be happy with that (even though you dont actually get rewarded with a premiership) :thumbsu:

Riewoldt was not bad at all today. The ball didnt really go in there at all and when it did he had 4 Carlton players hanging off him. Can hardly credit that to Jamison more to the whole defensive unit for being all over him and to our poor ball use.

I thought we set up really poorly today. We flooded once we were a few goals down and it just made it so much worse. Whenever we had the ball we had no one to kick too and hence it just went to the Blues who built and wall and then came roaring back in. I also thought Lids on Henderson was a terrible matchup and that he could not really get into the game. Thought a move to the middle today on a wing should have happened.

It was a bad day but lets not throw the baby out with the bathwater, some people on the talkback radio were being stupid.
One thing I've noticed with Riewoldt is that even if he doesn't mark the ball, he is outstanding at making a contest and bringing the ball to ground where either he or our crumbers can capitalise. I think you'd find that most goals we kick each week have gone through JR at some point. I think in that sense he is a more complete player than say Richo was.

As for Lids on Henderson, I do think there is value in Lids being our 3rd tall in defence. I'd have thought Gourdis or Astbury would have been a better match-up but I appreciate they had to cover Waite and possibly Hampson. I think it's reasonable to ask Lids to give away up to 5cm in a match-up. Against Henderson he was around 8cm shorter. Also Henderson is quite mobile so not that easy to run-off (as opposed to say Hampson).

Our mods have done an outstanding job considering the abuse that has been sent our way in the last 5 years. The communist fist occurs only when guests are out of line.
Your mods are all quality. But this thread is an example of the fact that if people behave in a civilised fashion than their job is made quite easy.
We will have this debate every year now. Both teams are the rise and will be close rivals. I look forward to deconstructing the merits of both with plenty of Tiger fans in the future on your board or ours

Haven't you heard?

Because Martin is already strong, he cannot possibly get any bigger or stronger.

Some game notes:

- We severely lacked intensity, especially the first half. Through the middle of the ground there was absolutely no pressure and Carlton were allowed to run forward with incredible ease. I can handle losing by 90 points because of a lack of skill execution on the day or a heavily superior opposition but when it's because of an apparent lack of effort it isn't acceptable. Strange, because this year we've been good in this area. I'll give the benefit of the doubt and put some of it down to young bodies tiring at the end of the year, and a few key outs.

- Connors was disgraceful. Simply abysmal. Anyone that says he played well did not watch the game closely enough. Sure he got a lot of touches but was completely wasteful and played like a millionaire. Not only did he miss targets, he shanked kicks and often the spin on the ball resembled nothing like a drop punt. His kicking action looked lazy, his running was lazy and one way, he even looked lazy when he took on opponents. He has the talent but it's all a mental thing for Connors, he needs to go back to basics and concentrate on hitting targets and not trying to do too much every time.

-Post was good but his forward positioning needs work. His contested marking and competing for the ball was very good, he looked a real presence at times in the 2nd half when the ball was sent in long. However when he was played at the pure FF position he looked a bit lost. One instance especially springs to mind, if anyone remembers at the very end of the 1st quarter (when we were still in the game) Lids had it in the centre of the ground and took about 3 bounces until he hit the 50 then turned it over with a skimming pass. Anyone watching on TV would've been mistaken for thinking that was his bad skills, but in fact it was because Post didn't lead early enough. In the time Deledio was taking 3 bounces Post had a mountain of time to make a lead, instead he was caught horribly out of position and couldn't get a lead out until Lids hit about 52 out. By this time another Carlton player came across to intercept. If you're watching Geelong or Collingwood they will always have a forward leading long before this point.

- Cousins never stopped trying. Easily our best on ground I thought. I know it's cliched but our players really could learn a thing or two about not giving up when the chips are down from Cuz. Worked his arse off all day and his disposal was effective.

-I'm on the Edwards bandwagon. Was wasteful at times but geez he knows how to find his way out of trouble. Love his agility and core. Reminds me a lot of Sharrod Wellingham from Collingwood who is having a big breakout season. Similarly his disposal isn't elite but is good enough and he thinks creatively.

all in all we have a lot of kids & they will have these days speciall towards the end of the year when the long season has taken its toll with nothing but developement to play for.

from all reports gourdis was able to translate his coburg game to the afl & there seems to be good reports on jayden post game (good) very important player to our strcture.

david astbury has done all thats required of a first year player that was taken late & nason has been fantastic for pick 70 odd
with the added experience & perhaps a couple of more handy draft picks we are certainly on our way
we are probably another 2 quality mids & another tall chb/chf away from our rebuild and possibly another 1-2 developeing rucks

from an age & headache point of view its probably better for cousins to finish up theis year but for the development of our very very young midfield we really do need him to go around 1 more year.

theres alot to like about the tigers & i believe we will suprise alot of teams next year & our structures are looking good provided our talls continue to develope & we add another 2-3 quality mids .

GO TIGERS

Foley and Cotchin will still come back in. As will Griffiths and we know how good he could be. We have Gourdis and Grimes who have shown signs down back but we will see how those 2 go next season.

He was pretty bad yesturday.

I thought Nason played ok. He was getting a lot of the ball at half back, he kicked one ball out on the full under pressure off his left, but on most occasions had absolutely nobody to kick to up the field so he just had to bomb it long. On one occasion he was calling for a lead and not one player presented a target for him. He also kicked a nice goal from just inside 50 on a 45 degree angle.

Most of the trolling is being done by posters who don't post on our board so I would just ignore them.

A disapointing day yesterday for your boys but you will still get these poor performances every know and then while you are rebuilding.

JR was quiet but in a big loss like that he was hardly going to star. Plus he was double teamed consistently, but get used to it because every team will do it.

Martin will be a star and is my favourite Tiger, he will be better than Scully and Trengove. For someone to be so strong and so good inside with the skills of an elite outside mid is something special.

I thought the Irish bloke O'Reilly was okay and looks to have good enough skills but obviously lacks a footy brain.

Cousins' was best player and I will be shocked if he isn't re-signed.

I still like the look of Post, his marking ability is sensational but needs to polish off his decision making and general skills. Develop him in the seniors!

It seems Deledio is being used in a similar role to Gibbs which is seemingly frustrating supporters as both players are better playing through the middle. Without Cotchin and Foley you needed his quality in the midfield.

Just a few notes from an otherwise horrible day, but keep your chin up because you have taken a big step forward this year. :thumbsu:

It seemed like he had to think through everything thing he did, where as most footballers would do them naturally. Though i'm sure over time if he stays on he'll start to become more natural in his gameplay.
