Shouldn't be too long before we know the round 23 fixture? the 8 is almost set with some chance Port or Richmond or even Melbourne could get on a roll.
I am thinking: (all times Local)

Friday
North Melbourne vs GWS ES (7:50PM) (Something different for once)
Saturday

Adelaide vs West Coast AO (1:40pm)
Fremantle vs Bulldogs Subi (2:40pm) T
Geelong vs Melbourne SS (7:25pm)
Sydney vs Richmond SCG (7.25pm)
Sunday
Gold Coast vs Port Power MS (1:10pm)
Essendon vs Carlton MCG (3:20pm)
St Kilda vs Brisbane ES (4:40pm) T

Thoughts?

Friday

It's not really all that relevant with regards to breaks etc. now that we have a bye following Round 23...just put the best games in the prime-time slots and the others in the less lucrative ones.

I would have thought Ade v WCE or NM vs GWS for the Friday night game, purely because they're the only two with two finals teams going head to head
The AFL are crooks.. there is noway they will give a Friday night time slot to 2 non Victorian teams.

Neither Geelong nor WB will play Friday night as they play the previous Sunday.

Friday; Adelaide vs West Coast. Two finals teams, don't care that they're not Victorian.

Sat 1:10 or 1:45; Essendon vs Carlton
Sat arvo; Fremantle vs Western Bulldogs
Sat 3:20 start; Sydney vs Richmond
Sat twilight; North Melbourne vs GWS
Sat night; Hawthorn vs Collingwood
Sat night; Gold Coast vs Port Adelaide

Sunday 3:20; Geelong vs Melbourne
Sunday twilight; St Kilda vs Brisbane

Why have
I'm not sure having the Sunday off would be any advantage at all. A team could potentially play Friday night, have a week off and then play the following Sunday - 16 days off.
why have the floating fixture if the finals team have the bye weekend? could have just had the fixtures set in stone

Surely not even the AFL could stuff up the last round scheduling, 3 matches that don't involve finals teams - play them on the Sunday.

Adelaide v WC should be the Friday night game as WC play the Friday before and Adelaide played on the Saturday, both teams will be playing finals.

But I'm sure the VFL will schedule a blockbuster for Friday night, Essendon v Carlton or Hawks v Collingwood.

It's to give the MCG groundsmen the maximum amount of time to be repaired for the finals. Surely we want have the best surface for the finals.

Collingwood v Essendon was the last game of the H&A season last year. It's not going to be an issue.

Hawthorn v Collingwood- Saturday twilight or Saturday night
Essendon v Carlton - 3:20pm on the Sunday

Fairly certain that's where these two games will fall.

On another note it was a 6 day turn around between Collingwood v Essendon (Round 23) & Western Bulldogs v Adelaide (Elimination Final) last year.

With the introduction of the bye weekend this year it's even less of an issue. Though I'm not sure if it ever was.

Adelaide v WC and North v GWS look good fixtures right now, but there has to be a decent chance one or both might be locked into a specific position on the ladder. Then we could be treated to another North v Richmond fiasco like last year.

I know the week off before finals is meant to mitigate against this, but some clubs will rest up players anyway even if just to avoid injury.

Just remember the next week there are no games.
As a result what times any of these games are on are less critical than previous years simply as a dead football weekend the following week.
Might be some different timings as a result.
The need for all finalists to avoid playing Sunday games in no longer needed.
All that matters is the teams that played Sunday in round 22 cannot play Friday night in round 23.
Everything else is open.

You may be right, but surely if that's the case the fixture would have been announced back in October/November when it was was released. Still think the non-finals team will play the Sunday games.

Agree with others, now that they have introduced the week off before finals, why not just schedule the round ahead of the season like every other round?

Would like to see North/GWS on Friday night though. Would be good exposure for both teams, particularly if a top 4 spot is on the line.
