Maybe if we weren't so intent on hugging the boundary line every bloody time we wouldn't have had so many bloody out of bounds on the fool. Just a thought.

If there's worse game in the AFL this year then I don't want to see it.![]()

O.K. so I had to get it off my chest, but I've just been wishing for us to let our players play to their abilities.
It just looks as though some of that is being stifled at the moment and I'll tell you why.
a.
The long kick is truly out of vogue for us.
The amount of those soft, delicate Houlihan type kicks 20 mt. passes to a contested mark type situation worries me.
They're fine when the intended kick is for someone 5 mts. in the clear but what is there to gain from such short passing to almost 50/50 type situations?
b.
Watching Essendon's game simple game plan unravel us last night was disappointing for me.
I saw our boys giving their all last night.
Some may disagree but the efforts on field were quite good overall.
A large part of the poor execution emanated from work around the boundary line, trying to be too cute by way of those horrible soft kicks that lack any penetration.
I'd suggest that this is more by some game plan type scenario than by natural execution.
c.
The corridor.
This is my one singular hate of what we are doing and not just from last night.
This was the case last year as was in the first game against Richmond.
We just don't use it.
Why? I don't know and am happy to be corrected by someone that understands proceeding better than I.
We virtually hand the corridor over to our opponent every game.
A subjective observation:
We seem to be not allowing our players license to follow their instincts and by default seem to be harnessing their true value.
(e.g. There was a moment in the third quarter I felt compelled to applaud Warnock for marking the ball, doing a 180 turn and immediately handballing to the noise of a fellow player.
It did not come off, but I was glad to see a little instinct type football being tried.)
I'm certainly not a Ratten basher as the pieces WILL start to come together but after a year and a half I'd just like to see a little more balls being used by our coaching staff and not falling back on those defeatist terms that have been used of late.
You know the ones: Stalling Tactics, Tempo Control etc.
p.s. Can't wait for Judd and Bower back next week.![]()
Sorry, Harkmanistan, that is utter garbage. So many disinterested players going half pace, standing off the action, kicking lazily, not helping mates. I'm waiting for the whispers to start about something not right going on at Visy.
Just on that, Walker was not a very happy lad, I must say.
Gave Thornton quite a mouthful at one stage and wanted to blame others for his failings, but then again he really shouldn't be taking up a Bower type role either.
Thornton seemed rattled at times and that may have come by way of team mates rather than the opposition.
The contest was quite willing at times and McLean was clearly labouring, but by far and large most players put in from where I sat.
Where did you sit?

stinksWalker being played completely out of position, Waite playing in a position he's never really excelled at, match strategy to run the boundary against the Bombers who played the corridor and I may as well stayed home and watched Groundhog Day.

Lets face facts:
Aside from our number 1 picks, we have drafted poorly
McLean was a stupid trade. He is slow, fat and injury prone
Jamieson is our only skilled key defender
with every statement wrong I assume you are extracting the urineLets face facts:
Getting rid of Fev was a dumb move. Not only was a good footballer but he bought back that old Carlton arrogance
Ratten is the worst coach in the competition
We hardly have one quality big forward
Aside from our number 1 picks, we have drafted poorly
McLean was a stupid trade. He is slow, fat and injury prone
If we had any brains, we shoyuld have traded Walker last year. He will have little value at the end of this year
Henderson will never make it as a key centre half forward
Jamieson is our only skilled key defender
We rely on Murphy, Judd and Gibbs with the odd cameos from the likes of Simpson, betts and a couple of others
Addendum: Gibbs looked lazy, or ill and Houlihan was, well Houlihan and Melbourne beat Adelaide.
God his snap for goal was pathetic.
I'm not sure I've ever seen such a poor shot, in terms of desire.
Before he even kicked it he looked like he didn't give a shit, and then he treated the shot like it was some half-arsed attempt at the end of a training exercise.
In hindsight, if the Bingle thing came out whilst he was at Carlton, he probably would've been delisted - we should be thanking our lucky stars that we got such value out of him knowing that we had that little skeleton hanging in the closet - make no mistake, the AFL wouldn't have allowed Fev off the hook if he was still in Victoria.Getting rid of Fev was a dumb move.
