Nico and hurn

not sure after that

lynch used to be able to but I reckon he's lost penetration in his kicking

Exactly, and I agree Lynch can't kick as far as he used to. He can however now mark everything that comes near him, so you win some you lose some.

B: Schofield Glass Butler
HB: Hurn MacKenzie Stevenson
C: Embley Priddis Rosa
HF: Nicoski Lynch Strijk
F: Darling Kennedy Ebert
Foll: Cox, Kerr, Shuey
IC: S Selwood, A Selwood, Naitanui, Gaff

Already looks more balanced for mine. Would also be happy to see Hams in place of Ebert who has been OK but not wonderful up forward.

Re: Round 6 changes Vs Melbournce

This plus Brown for Stevenson.

Have rated Schofield but have been really disappointed with his lack of awareness and inability to hold his feet.

Need to start setting up for the Derby = running and kicking skills a must.

I can't see Brown and Schofield going out without at least one defensively minded player coming in. Butler, Hurn, Stevenson are not that accountable and going with MacKenzie and Glass only as our real defensive types is far too much of a gamble for our match committee.

Expect to see OUT: Brown, IN: McGinnity. :)

I'd love to see Stevenson and Strijk both come in and rotate between a wing and a HFF. Both attacking players with great skills.

Add Hams in a pocket for crumbing skills and pressure.

A lot of class waiting in the wings, can't see the justification for blokes like Nicoski (as hard as he has tried this year) and Ebert keeping these guys out.

Ebert doesnt get it enough being played forward.
Sheppard cant use his pace as a BP.

I wish one of the ****ing media would ask Worsfold why he plays 4KPB, and why every mid we get must pass the trial off fire in the 50m arcs before being allowed to play their natural positions?

That should make a lot of people on this board happy :D. I actually like him up there. He is a pretty good mark and works his arse off. I think he has showed glimpses of why he is being played there. Just needs to bag 2 or 3 goals next week. He suits the role a lot better than Masten anyway.

WAFL selections will take on some extra meaning this week.

You wouldn't think any player in the frame of playing against Melbourne would get a run this weekend - given the short turnaround

EditL: though claremont (aka WC reserves) have the bye

Would this result in a weakening of our forward zone?

we play foxtel cup this week

big chance for a few eagles to have a big game

I don't think so, as long as the guys coming in know the structures that are being implemented then I'm sure they could step up and handle it.

For what it's worth, I like Ebert forward too, it's just that I don't think he's more valuable there than Strijk or Hams.

Ahh - sat night away eh?

Can't see them getting up for a Thursday game

You guys might lose 2 or 3 i reckon. Jones is a certainty - may also lose Swift and perhaps another.

Out Brown, Ebert, Schofield, Dalziell
In Strijk Swift, Stevenson, Sheppard

I have left out 2 talls but Glass will get Jamar/Martin and Mckenzie will have to take Jurrah, the rest of their forwards can all be covered by smalls and mids. Stevenson and Sheppard can both play back and also add better kicking skills. Strijk is a wonderful finisher and against Melbourne who attack from defence we need players that can finish or pinpoint passes.

Priddis needs some help in the clearances as he fades badly in the last quarter, only 2 possessions against hawks, and Swift is the next best on our list.

We need to hurt the opposition because we have had enough of the football to be 4-0 but the lack of some class users and too many tall defenders has hurt us.

There are other players like Nico who are just hanging in there but I would give him another week. We could also bring in Hams as a crumber instead of one of the players mentioned.

I know the selectors won't make these changes because they think they can cause mismatches with Melbourne's lack of height, however their game is built on speed and we need some to combat them, and not an extra tagger Mcginnity. Melbourne are quite poor defensively in their forward line and rely on turnovers to get most of their goals. They use run and handball from defense to setup goals. We need to expose them the other way by having players that can capitalise on their mistakes in defence

Most likely changes is Brown out Mcginnty in but I will be absolutely disgusted if that is the change because that is about saving the game not winning it. We have been exposed by not having enough midfielders, small defenders and a genuine crumber so we need to change that.

My view is that if the selectors had made a couple of small changes before each game we would be 4-0 because the desire and pressure has been outstanding and we have had chances to win every game.

Maybe the players that haven't been playing have not been meeting the defensive aspects required but the lack of hurt factor of many of our players requires us to have at least 1 more offensive player in the side.

Agreed.
His marking is good, he's usually a pretty good set-shot and I can remember a few instances this season where his tackling and second efforts have resulted in us having shots on goal.

What are Glass and McKenzie for? How many teams have a Roughhead-Franklin 1-2 punch?

Brown is not a natural defender and it shows up under pressure.

Which of the two problems would you rather have?
Glass didn't play on Hawthorn's main talls and it seems obvious that WC is changing his role. As far as which of the 2 i"d rather have, I explained that earlier and I think you will find Scgofield has had more goals kicked on him than Brown despite the fact that Brown has taken the main defender. You will also find that Brown was recruited as a defender who could also play forward i'e the role he played prior to drafting.

Agree with most of this.

Ebert won't get dropped, the sooner we all accept this the better.

Brown out with a thumb injury is a certainty which means Schofield will most likely survive and take on Jurrah, MacKenzie would get flogged by Jurrah ....... so will Schofield most likely.:(

Dalziel as the sub failed badly, Strijk for sub is my choice v Melbourne.

Out: Brown, Dalziel

In: Hams, Strijk

With a week off to freshen up I can't see more than two changes after a pretty decent game against the Hawks.

Out:

Brown - Injured
Dalziell - Talentless
Nicoski - 3 Behinfs, in 2 weeks not good enough.

In:

Swift - Good WAFL form and needs a good run in the seniors
Hams - Better option to Niko.
Strijk - 4 goals and 3 assists. Good form.

Using the lineup from the weekend, should line up something like this;

Nic Nat Lynch Hams
Darling Kennedy Shuey
Rosa Priddis Embley
S.Selwood Emac Butler
Scofield Glass Hurn

Cox Kerr Swift

A.Selwood Ebert Gaff Strijk

Out: Brown, Dalziell
In: Masten/Strijk, Hams/Swift

If Masten is fit then he should come in as the sub for Dalziell. Has a fairly big motor and can find the ball. If he isn't fit then Strijk. Maybe a gamble because he does not have that innate ball winning ability but offers decent speed, good grab overhead and the ability to kick goals or hurt the opposition in a short period.

Brown is out with injury. Both B. Jones and J. Jones are also injured. TBH we could do with going an additional smaller type off the interchange anyway and adding an attacking player. Both can rotate through the midfield but Hams is better forward of centre and Swift can play HBF.

I guess it will somewhat depend on matchups and form for those playing next week in the WAFL. Any of Hams, Stevens, Stevenson or Swift could be a good inclusion.

What I think could happen though is we just go like fore like (well sort of). Bring in a defensive player for Brown (McGinnity) and leave Dalziell in the squad.

Out: Brown
IN: Hams
Forced change, but we need a small forward. While our pressure has been fantastic we need another avenue at goal.

OUT: Dalziell
IN: Swift/Weedon
Either of these two would make a better impact as a sub in different positions.

OUT: Nicoski
IN: Strijk
Provides just as much pressure as Nicoski but with a better chance at hitting the score board and setting goals up.

The only risk with this is we're bringing in 3 players who don't have full match fitness so that may be a massive problem late in the quarters/game. Luckily Strijk and Hams can be apart of the midfield rotations and rest forward giving them plenty of opportunities to catch their breath.

I'd be tempted to pick Weedon over Swift because a sub only gets limited opportunities and he has the skills to make the most of them whilst providing a flexible midfield/forward option.

Summary of WAFL performances

Last week they talked up Dalziell and he came in - this week it's Swift

I reckon it's almost a certainty the lad will come in.
Great to hear Smith is starting to utalise his pace more.

Mmmmmm well we still have one more round of WAFL before team selections so it will be interesting.

I do think Swift needs a full game though, not sure how he would impact as a sub.

Reckon he may need a couple of games before he starts to have a solid impact. Still it was a good performance from the 4 young guys at Claremont, especially considering the heat. Both Weedon and Broome looked absolutely stuffe by the end. If only Stevenson could get similar numbers at AFL level. His run and carry is great and disposal by foot so damaging.
