Bassett: Struggled big time tonight, beaten time and time again and was 10 metres behind his opponent in every contest.

Bock: Absolutely terrible game; dropped a ton of marks that AFL players have no right to drop.

Burton: Needs to spend a good month in the SANFL because he’s done nothing all year expect be a waste of a player out there.

Doughty: He too can spend some quality time in the local league, poor disposal and decision making.

Douglas: Other than his good second term he didn’t have an impact. Looked reasonably dangerous up forward though and might have to stay there for a few weeks.

Edwards: Very solid game, got quite a few clearances.

Goodwin: Great game and was BOG in his 200th.

Griffin: Had no impact, other than the Showdown his worst game for the year.

Hinge: Started strong, faded out. Didn’t get much game time after half time which was disappointing considering no one else was having an impact.

Hudson: Commentators mentioned that he was limping in the last quarter. Got a few clearances from his own boot and had some superb taps but overall not a flash game.

Knights: Along with Goodwin, BOG. Tried his guts out all night and continuously put his body on the line. Good disposal and some nice contested marks.

Mattner: After a great game last week he was sub par; Cloke destroyed him.

McLeod: Provided great run all night and tried to get us going in the last term.

Perrie: Kicked 3 but had very little impact after Prestigiacomo was switched onto him.

Rutten: Held Rocca goalless, sums up Rutten. One of a few that won his position.

Shirley: Very little impact, but at least he wasn't a clanger kick like some others.

Stevens: Took a few nice marks, kicked a long goal, but they were all cancelled out due to his kick that caused a goal late in the third.

Thompson: Tried hard, 27 possessions and 6 marks. His endeavor couldn’t be faulted; looked absolutely stuffed towards the end of the game.

Torney: Didn’t train yesterday, and shouldn’t have played. Was so underdone it was painful.

van Berlo: Terrific first quarter with 10 possessions but he too faded out of the game. Finished with 18 disposals but didn’t have his best outing of the year.

Vince: IMO looked extremely dangerous whenever he was on, but for some reason he spent long periods of time on the bench.

Welsh: Good luck with the Bloods this year Scotty!

Whole heartedly agree with everything there Drum, good analysis. Perhaps a tad harsh on Welsh but thats just my opinion

Harsh on Douglas not having an impact. Didn't get a lot of opportunity in the 2nd half, we were rogered out of the middle. Also got 10 contested possesions.

Agree with Doughty and Burton - Atrocious

A tad harsh on Bock, obviously injured. Did you see the 10 tonnes of tape on his legs?

Probably too harsh on Griffin, he was alright IMO.

Bassett - Terrible game

Mattner - *see Bassett* Not really his fault, being forced to play as a backman for god knows what reason. We lacked drive, he's a wingman. PLAY HIM ON THE FECKING WING !!!!!

Mate, you’re going a little over the top in regards to Douglas. Yes he had a little purple patch in the second quarter but overall he was quiet. Not sure how he got 10 contested possessions but regardless, the stat hardly proves his worth on the game.

Overall he worked his little ass off. One of the very very few players to actually put in a decent effort tonight.

Bassett: Struggled big time tonight, beaten time and time again and was 10 metres behind his opponent in every contest. He is getting found out when the pressure is applied

Bock: Absolutely terrible game; dropped a ton of marks that AFL players have no right to drop.agree needs to go back to CHB. Mattner should not be asked to play this role.

Burton: Needs to spend a good month in the SANFL because he’s done nothing all year expect be a waste of a player out there. PLaying unfit players kills you

Doughty: He too can spend some quality time in the local league, poor disposal and decision making. As much as it hurts I must agre with you

Douglas: Other than his good second term he didn’t have an impact. Looked reasonably dangerous up forward though and might have to stay there for a few weeks. He was the only small player hwo looked like getting us back in the game up forward.

Edwards: Very solid game, got quite a few clearances. Needs to use his preferred side more and get rid of the fecking ball.

Goodwin: Great game and was BOG in his 200th.right on

Griffin: Had no impact, other than the Showdown his worst game for the year. He needs to have some game time. Why wasnot he put up foprward a la Bryan.

Hinge: Started strong, faded out. Didn’t get much game time after half time which was disappointing considering no one else was having an impact. Why????

Hudson: Commentators mentioned that he was limping in the last quarter. Got a few clearances from his own boot and had some superb taps but overall not a flash game. Wallst was gingin me the shites here. He played well until last quarter

Knights: Along with Goodwin, BOG. Tried his guts out all night and continuously put his body on the line. Good disposal and some nice contested marks. A huge performance

Mattner: After a great game last week he was sub par; Cloke destroyed him. needs to play on the wing.

McLeod: Provided great run all night and tried to get us going in the last term.waht a gam from the little champion?

Perrie: Kicked 3 but had very little impact after Prestigiacomo was switched onto him. He came back well after being towelled up early. He needed a crumber by his feet

Rutten: Held Rocca goalless, sums up Rutten. One of a few that won his position.A fine game.

Shirley: Very little impact, but at least he wasn't a clanger kick like some others. His finger is making it difficult for him to hold on to the ball in close

Stevens: Took a few nice marks, kicked a long goal, but they were all cancelled out due to his kick that caused a goal late in the third.we cannot afford to have three slow players in our forward lines unless we have some smalls who can mop up the loose balls

Thompson: Tried hard, 27 possessions and 6 marks. His endeavor couldn’t be faulted; looked absolutely stuffed towards the end of the game. Tried very hard and in our best

Torney: Didn’t train yesterday, and shouldn’t have played. Was so underdone it was painful.

van Berlo: Terrific first quarter with 10 possessions but he too faded out of the game. Finished with 18 disposals but didn’t have his best outing of the year.needs to use the ball better

Vince: IMO looked extremely dangerous whenever he was on, but for some reason he spent long periods of time on the bench. Like Hinge spent a lot of time on the bench

Welsh: Good luck with the Bloods this year Scotty!
A touch harsh. He may not have been fit and Clement is his daddy.

I have put my comments in bold Drummond. You were pretty spot on with most of your comments. Do you think we should pick Michelle and the Soup next week?

For those of you praising Douglas what about the two times he turned and should have snapped the ball on his boot for a shot at goal, instead seemed scared to want to do that and passed it off which ended up with Collingwood running it out of our forward lines?

Vince also was hesitant when he turned and should of snapped at goal.

Griff played a pretty good game from what I saw - he did go forward in the last quarter but we just couldn't get the ball down there. One of his good linkage plays through the midfield resulted in a goal in the second quarter.

Because they aren't confident enough to do this for some reason. It's not that they can't do it. Young guys make mistakes, we have to learn to accept that and focus on the positive sides of their games.

They said on the radio that Vince is still struggling a little with his fitness because of the lack of a pre season, hence he's having extended time on the bench. But gee whiz, every time he touched the footy last night he made something happen. I still say he's got a big future, and that snap goal was great. :thumbsu:

Douglas looks to be lacking a real attacking instinct when it comes to the goals, there was one occasion where he collected the ball about a metre in front of his opponent in the pocket, turned to sprint, but hesitated and wheeled around the other way, ultimately the ball was cleared by the pies iirc. He should have had a shot, but he's showing flashes of brilliance. I can't help but feel that it's a game time thing, he's making errors but also showing positive signs. I would suggest that once he's cracked the 15 game mark he will begin to blossom. AND HE'S QUICK!!! Showed some dash at times, led the opposition to the ball a few times, but needs to back himself with it because, like Knights, it could become a big weapon for him.

Bus24 is right on the money, they're promising but need experience to gain confidence. Just look at Knights, he is becoming a deadset star now he's had a bit of experience. Most of our kids have got buckets of potential, we've gotta be supportive of them through the good times and the bad. It'll be an exciting next couple of years watching them develop. For the record, Hinge impressed me. Hopefully he can back it up down the track (though McIntyre is the better talent for mine).

Douglas did some very good things last night but you are right, they were a number of occasions where I cringed. For a moment there I thought we had Skipworth back in th team with his reluctance to take them on and take a shot at goal.

On at least 2 occasions Douglas was in prime position to kick a goal, his reluctance to take a ping and use his left foot led to Collingwood saving what would have been a couple of certain goals.

He will get better though. Overall, he played a good game despite some hairy moments. It was good to see him play 2 good games in a row.

I think Vince benching might have had someting with Shaw running around like unregistered dog. Vince just couldn't play a lick of defence last night. Maybe it is due to fitness issues but crickey he was ordinary defensively. But then again, so was just about everyone else.

I'd subscribe to that theory .....but that being correct it was a bad matchup to start with by Craig ....as Shaw was always going to run off HB

some good points there but all the people you think should be dropped Who will replace them? we don't have anyone else!! we have basically no back up cos of injuries and even some of ther players that are playing are injured. we are are going through some tough times at the moment I just hope the boys can get through it!

He made some strange decisions though like handballing up in the air back into a pack of players when he should have just kicked the ball. Did that a few times....

Have a bloody go. There is no point dying wondering........

Some good could have come from it instead of turning the ball over

Of course they should have a go. But as I stated earlier, young kids often lack confidence to do so.

They're young, inexperienced kids. They're all improving and hopefully growing in confidence and thats all we should be hoping for at this stage.

I listened to an interview by Mick Malthouse and in that he stated that the old Collingwood teams of the past doubted themselves when they came to AAMI because the Crows were a very hard side at beat at home. With the new bunch of KIDS that he has, he stated kids don't doubt themselves, they play for there spot and the privilege of being part of their team. IMO that is why they won the game, their kids held no fears and got on with the task at hand....FOOTBALL

And yes hindsight is a wonderful thing................

I think it is a meantla thing with Clement. he kills him every time.
I don't think it is a mental thing. It is simply a question of quality. Welsh is one of a number of 3rd or 4th string forwards around the competition who gets absolutely destroyed by Clement. Good match up by Malthouse. What was disappointing was that because Bock, Stevens and Burton all had poor matches there was no reason for Collingwood to put Clement on someone else.
