One thing that perhaps stands out to me a little this season, and I mean this in no ill intentions, one thing Hird talked about after we played your mob was the coaching staffs ability to get players heads right, very few thought we were a chance, part of their coaching role was getting the players positive about the chances of winning. Looked a little flat tonight.

Why are people wanting Thornton back in the team? He has offered us nothing when he has played this year.

Because he can mark, kick, does smart 1% like taps and flicks. 100 times the player Paul 'through the corridor kick it with my left' Bower.

It was a pretty weak performance... but I want to know how the umpires can justify giving holding the man decisions to the Aints players, then when the Carlton players are held in exactly the same way... it's play on.

I'm going to try to make YouTube videos of it....

Walker being held by one arm by the Saints defender who uses his free arm to tap the ball. Walker looks at the umpire, "He tapped the ball with his other arm, Andrew!" the ball gets taken down the other end and less than a minute later the same exact call that Walker should have gotten was paid against our defender.

This happened repeatedly, at least half a dozen or so times in the first quarter. Walker constantly looking and arguing with the umpire as the ball went out of play.

Regardless, I need to not post on the game day thread during game ever.

I thought we had a tackling coach? Is he on leave? Not only are we not sticking tackles we dont much like it when they tackle us hard. We have to get used to teams being in our face. Not just because we invited it with our soft game v Essendon, but we would have been found out sooner or later anyway, and there is no way you get to week 3 of finals if you cant handle it hard.

And man dont we love being laughing stocks. Puff our chests out early and beat up on a few of the lower teams, but havent we put the cue away the last month?

And I cant wait for this friggin Etihad deal to expire. Swanny, if you dont do anything else, they should give you a new contract if you can get us out of playing there. Either that or our coaches figure out what it is about the place and get it sorted.

Murph - benefit of the doubt tonight.

Duigan - not sure what he smoked before the game... Was jumping at butterflies not even remotely close to the contest.

Russell - disinterested.

Ellard - can have Curnows spot.

Curnow - so slow, in the legs and the mind. Is well off the pace.

Gibbs - don't know what to say. Seems to lack the drive to take over. Just happy to float in and out. Not a leader.

Seriously Collins has to be a chance. Garlett needs a break. Im not sure Duigan gives us anything like Thornton AT THIS TIME. And I hate toi admit it, but if mclean is going to be the under the pack guy then he needs a few weeks in the team to put it together.

Yeah think Garlett needs a week or two off if only to show that you have to be there to play every week because we scream about depth, we need to show it. No player is safe if you don't perform.

Don't know about McLean, Ellard comes straight in and shows more than McLean will ever show I reckon.

Sorry if Im repeating what other people have said, but we are really missing the pace of Yarran and steel of Laidler down back. Curnow needs to be cleaner and more confident with his ball use, and Garlett needs to step up....in the VFL. Joseph can actually just piss off.

Carrazo, Laidler and Yarran, three out of our best 22 are missing, don't forget. There is a long season ahead of us. There's still hope.

Yes agree, we dont have enough forwards,backs who can go through midfield.
Betts,garlett, walker cant play midfield.

Grigg would be handy, midfielder who can play half forward or back.

Thornton needs to be recalled without fail, I am now watching last years final against essendon and he was brilliant, such a great mark with a solid head.

Garlett is simply not working had enough, never thought I'd say this but time for a spell, he really doesn't look interested, Betts wasn't flash but tried to get into the game.

We can still be a massive threat but it seems we nearly peaked against collingwood, loss of Carrazzo is hurting but we must simply find our clearance form.
