POWER-EAGLES: A CLASH OF INCONSISTENCIES

Loss. Win. Loss. Win… It has been one of those seasons. Neither joy nor sorrow has been able to last for long; a game of Chutes and Ladders!

After 8 rounds, two points and five positions separate the Eagles from the Power on the ladder. Both teams have lost half of their games; only have one win away; and have been just slightly better than the opposition at home. With both teams coming from wins, what is going to happen next?

PORT ADELAIDE – Port has finally won an away match, after three straight losses. A dominant star was enough to put the rest of the game on cruise control. Any time the Blues tried to come closer, the Power would turn the heat back up and keep Carlton at bay. Duursma has its best game of the season on the fast deck at Marvel. While Buzza and Dixon struggled, Rozee was the difference down forward kicking a perfect 4.0. Motlop in the ruck, when Lycett went out injured was Cadaver’s greatest surprise. It worked beautifully! Will he try it again against the Eagles?

WEST COAST – The wind made it an one-way game in Perth. The Eagles managed to adjust better for the conditions. West Coast was dominant in quarters fist and third, while the Dogs fought back in the even quarters. However, despite the Bulldogs best efforts, especially from English and Naughton, the Eagles never trailed. Kelly did it all for the West Australians, and Kennedy, Cripps, and Naitanui made sure his game wouldn’t be wasted, scoring 10.1:61 combined; despite the wind. Defense, however, allowed the opposing team to score more than 100 points for the sixth time this season. Against Port, this could be lethal.
