Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

Late first at best but they wont trade him for that.
You need to look at the worth he brings for your side I suppose. On paper a first round pick for a 29 year old seems overs but when that player addresses your biggest weakness is elite at his position is very durable and could be a difference maker, a first round pick in a weak draft doesn’t seem to bad

I know its 1 year, but when you say his 30 year old next season, i start to question that maybe is a no

Your club has been good at doing the right things at the right time to always contend.

I understand that every cats fan has their own opinions.

But this does seem like a classic cats smart trade IMO.

Yes i do agree, it all depends on where our club think where Conway and Edwards are at... These 2 have big wraps and good potential. Stanley is probably having his best season in years this year.
Can they see Conway playing 15 games next year and Stanley and Edwards filling the rest! Or do they think Marshall is the one for the next 3 years

No offence but Marshall is a huge step up from the players you just mentioned. The main question for Geelong should be do they honestly believe they have a list capable of contending for the next 2-3 seasons if the answer is yes this is a no brainer trade and on the off chance st kilda are keen they should be jumping at it

Absolutely he is, but I think what FD is getting at is whether Marshall is so good that he's worth 900k P/A (and a likely FRP - if not more) just to be a 2-3 year bridge to those players when they're ready.

It might sound like a resounding yes to some, but put yourself in the shoes of Chris Scott, who as a coach is notorious for not rating the ruck position.

I just think with the way he approaches it, he'd rather save the cap space for a play at Reid/Butters/Walsh/Cadman over the next 18 months, get another decent draftee in the door, and just go with a 'ruckman by committee' as per usual until the young guys can take over.

No offence taking 👍
But in my view you don't need a star ruckman to win a Premiership..
Brisbane last year
Us in 2022
Darcy Cameron great, but Collingwood got rid of Grundy, when Grundy was ahead of Cameron

I do think Marshall is the kind of ruckman Scott likes though. 3 years is a good transition for Edwards who is another type of ruckman Scott likes. Conway, who reminds me more of a Nankervis type operator, is probably less favoured though he's the ruck I personally like the most.

C4s mail that we're shopping Conway around certainly fits that mould, though it fits some others too.

TDK & a 1st rounder vs Marshall is definitely a positive.

Marshall is 30. TDK is 26.
Marshall currently the better player imo.
I agree with both of you. Marshall is the best player but TDK and a first/Conway would be better for the Saints, who are in no mans land.

Its actually incredible how Geelong get this stuff done.

You just need to respect it.

But St.Kilda have butchered this enormously.
St Kilda have got rocks in there head if they are paying 1.7 million on TDK. No ruckman in the comp is worth that. And especially when they have a gun ruckman in Marshall which has been there since his 1st game and is probably getting paid 1/2 of that amount

Could not agree more.

If Marshall was at Collingwood or Richmond he would be a much bigger star in terms of exposure.

Consistently performs at a A grade level.

If I'm him i'm leaving as well. 100%.

We’re been front ending contracts for years, and banking $$ from previous years. If we don’t spend it, it disappears. So why not bring in a FA that only costs $$?

Go on then.

Apart from the obvious 3 spit out the rest for me.
He’s been easily top 3 the last two years (could so easily have made the AA team two years ago- 50-odd coaches votes to 35 or so for English) and last year it was laughable that he didn’t make the AA squad (got about twice as many coaches votes as Cameron), but this year he went in very underdone and has almost certainly been carrying something (apparently a back at the moment) and has dropped off a fair bit.

Still playing at a high level though, and Geelong would back themselves to get him in better physical shape again.

He’d be a huge get for them, as he’s basically another “mid”- averaging 18 disposals, 4.6 tackles and 4.3 clearances per game, even while well short of his best, and is an excellent kick.
