I thought it was implied to be after. Before or after academy bids?
I thought it was implied to be after.
Would be weird to frame it that way considering everyone expects the cats to part with their first which would be in that range.
Agreed.I think Geelong pick slides to around 25 after bids and free agency compo.
Rucks don't get much more A grade than Brody Grundy who got traded from Melbourne on similar money at a similar age for pick 46 and future 2nd.Mate, with respect: different player types, different list needs for respective clubs; different importance; different availability of alternatives.
If you want an A-grade ruck, then you have to pay for it. There is a price where you walk away and that's OK. Same goes with Ryan.
Bottom line: We all think our kids are the cutest and others are ugly... even if ours are butt ugly.
This post completely omits the rationale as to why Grundy got traded in any of his moves.Rucks don't get much more A grade than Brody Grundy who got traded from Melbourne on similar money at a similar age for pick 46 and future 2nd.
That word doesn't mean what you think it meansAlso would not make Geelong better for any price as they are our competition.
You acknowledge you don't speak for all saints fans but I think the main thing to acknowledge is that you don't speak for the club.
Despite the noise about wanting to keep him, i just don't buy that the saints want to pass up extra draft capital they could use on other trade targets in favour of clogging up the forward line with a disgruntled 30 year old ruck.
What a load of rubbish.Firstly. So they did this willingly, Yes?? Front loading? OK. If so why the need to offload his contract? If it is indeed been front loaded... Must be around the 500-600k mark then?? One would think if it was correct. Why move him on??
Secondly. It will be the 17-18th or even 19th player allowed to be picked...
Like all years. These Father Sons, NGAs and Academy picks are already taken so it's just all fluff.
In the end it is the 18th player that is actually available.
Oh and... The drafts are always horrible when u pick the wrong players constantly...
Bont or Billings? Petracca or Paddy?? Max or Ben King?
Thirdly. Disregarding the posturing coming outta Moorabbin, i am of the thinking his contract needs to moved off the books.
Yes i don't believe the front loading of these millions u talk of.
So I ask, can your club swallow the 800k for the next 3 years?? Mmm... Interesting times ahead.
He got salary dumped when he went to Melbourne. Collingwood kept his extra money. He was on a big not massive contract when he went to SydneyThis post completely omits the rationale as to why Grundy got traded in any of his moves.
He was a salary dump after the club struggled.
Then the dees struggled and couldn’t make the ruck tandem work and was dumped again.
It’s not an accurate reflection on his value

Not sure what point you’re making here.He got salary dumped when he went to Melbourne. Collingwood kept his extra money. He was on a big not massive contract when he went to Sydney
?We did.why did Geelong not jump in?
would have been handy based on this years formWe did.
Grundy apparently wanted the inner city latte lifestyle, and I guess Pakington St didn’t do it for him.
For a group of supporters who desperately want to keep Marshall and never want him traded, Saints fans sure are keen to constantly pump up his trade value….
We did apparently, both times he was traded. Grundy wasn't interested in moving to Geelong apparently. We also had a crack at Goldstein around the same time but family reasons he couldn't leave Melbournewhy did Geelong not jump in?

I'm not sure if you read my post because I did not say that. I didn't say that because it's not true. Not sure what point you’re making here.
You obviously agree he got dumped for one reason or another.
Which is wildly different to Rowan Marshall. So how is Grundy the comparison trade Value?
So because it hasn’t worked elsewhere means we ignore when it did work for Marshall and ultimately it’s an entirely made up scenario by you to reduce his value in your opinion.I'm not sure if you read my post because I did not say that. I didn't say that because it's not true.
Grundy was not salary dumped on the trade from Melbourne to Sydney, because Collingwood was unable to get out of their financial obligations to him.
Grundy was reported to be getting paid 250-300k of his million by Collingwood so 700-750k would have to get paid by Sydney
The contract was longer, but he was slightly younger and unquestionably a better player.
The reason he was traded is actually really highly relevant to this scenario. He was an elite ruckman trying to play with another elite ruckman and it just didn't work. Which sounds like a cautionary tale.
