Ross version of events is that Geelong came to renegotiate very late. It's been reported the final offer was R1 and F2.

Yeah, and I'm sure Mackie was genuinely confused it wasn't taken.

I definitely wanted him, thought he'd be a great pick up. Sceptical it'll work out keeping him but he's contracted so end of the day not Geelong's call.

You traded out for players you wanted that's not to say picks therefore have zero value.

If that means holding Marshall as a vfl back up ruck to cover injury he's fine with it. He needs to show return on investment to keep momentum up. End of the day Rowan signed the contract.

The premiers just got a ruck, a key forward, will replace Starcevich with Doedee and will get a top 5 player again from their academy.

Marshall isn't bridging the gap they've widened in the last 2 weeks.

If they didn't want this years pick then I am happy we moved on. Next year and 2027-28 picks needed to be kept to make plays at Butters or Walsh.

Well at the very least he would have cancelled out the gain Brisbane got from signing Draper , that’s another advantage you just handed Brisbane

40 would have been swallowed on a Fincher bid and a late 27 pick would have been nothing useable due to Tassie.

Clubs didn't fold on their contracted players, and at least 3 clubs didn't overpay for talent.

Top rucks don't excite me as a must get. The last 15-20 years is littered with average to B grade rucks winning premierships, including ours.

What’s crazy is that Mackie waited till the end to table a offer leaving no time for a back up plan, we traded max heath for a fourth round pick Geelong could have had him

Both Hawthorn and Geelong made very reasonable offers. Arguably overs given the Merrett and Marshall's ages.

I get Stkilda wanting to keep Marshall. They're clearly all in for the short term. I'm not really backing it to work but holding him to try makes sense. If they didn't accept a first and future 2nd they were probably never trading him which is fair enough.

Essendon refusing a very good offer from Hawthorn given where they sit is just madness. Great for 16 other clubs though.

I can kind of get turning down Merrett because they'd crumble without him, but figuring out what to do with Marshall is a problem in itself

Cats are after Butters/Walsh and need picks for them end of next year, they were always going to be reluctant to move future picks.
