Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

Geelong just should have paid massive overs. Marshall was too big a fish at too important of a time to just let him walk away. Ask St Kilda what they wanted and just give it.

Marshall to me is the difference between top 4 and 5-8 for them and was just a very important piece to get. They should have just went for it

Butters would be the difference between what you are talking about but any ruck not named Max gawn is not going to make that level of difference for us.

In what fantasy world would a 1st ever have been used for Aleer or Ryan?

And the 1st that was of interest was the 2026 1st so that it could be potentially bundled with St Kilda's 2026 1st for a top end trade next year. There is still salary cap space for more acquisitions in 2026.
Never said that they would use a 1st on them. They needed another 2nd. St Kilda were looking at other big plays this year as well.

And St kilda have enough cap space to throw an offer at Butters

You didnt even have the assets to get Charlie Curnow... nor were you even close to it. You are not getting Zak Butters.... or any player better then what Rowan Marshall represented

And thats kind of the issue here. With Tasmania around ready to swoop the day of the cheap deal for Geelong is over. They will need to be more ruthless at the trade table to get things done

Zak Butters is OOC end of 2026? that's the difference between Marshall and Butters.
Saying we "aren't getting Butters" due to "assets" is hilarious.

Port have no say in keeping him if he wants to go. If Zak says "I want Geelong" he's going to Geelong. Cats will stump up draft picks and that'll be that.

Yours seems more of an emotional argument based on your dislike of Geelong (and i am guessing a big part is the Tim Kelly trade) over any argument based in logic.

That is no longer how the world works. And you’re in the wrong thread for Butters anyway

Since when did OOC players not get a say in where they wanted to go? Lol

I wasn't even the one who brought up Butters originally, I even made the point of difference with Marshall being contracted and Butters being OOC next year.
Contracted teams hold the whip hand on contracted players as they should, OOC players hold the whip hand. That has not changed in any way, shape or form?

Anecdotal evidence of 1 player going to the draft is not evidence of that changing, it's just meaningless posturing online.

The tide is turning a bit on that. Charlie Curnow/Zac Merrett showed a cultural shift that someone like Zak Butters will see and adapt too as well as well Rowan Marshall himself. Players see who got deals done and who didnt. If Geelong offer 3 firsts to me this is like half of Zak Butters actual value. The trade would need to be a top 10 pick next year + 2 firsts + a very good player.

Id suggest Bulldogs lead the way and it ends up being top 10 pick + 2 F1sts + Sanders. For that reason Doggies is the club Zak Butters will look to go too

Ah Chee, Aleer, Khamis. There’s a whole bunch that didn’t move this year and a few more like Curnow and Petracca who looked around, realised some of their options couldn’t actually afford to pay, and made different choices as a result.

Ah Chee will go to the PSD but if you’re talking about Zak Butters he’s not going to be able to walk past that many clubs to get to wherever Geelong finishes next year.

The guys you mentioned were all contracted LOL

I feel we are way more of a shot at Walsh than Butters who will also be OOC but that's just me.

Speaking of logic, do you understand that Butters is a restricted free agent next year and Port will almost certainly match any deal presented, even if he says "I want Geelong".

That means Geelong must act like a professional football club and stump up a deal that will likely see them lose several first rounders and a first team player, or he will stay at Port or go to the draft.

You will not be getting Butters for the magic beans you offered Carlton for Curnow lol.

I literally said above Cats would stump up draft picks?
Are we just choosing to ignore things in writing now?....

At the end of the day, Port can not hold him. Cats will offer draft picks just like Bulldogs will but he will be OOC.
That means Port can not hold him to anything which is entirely different to Marshall, Simpkin, Curnow, Merrett etc etc that has been quoted.
Port have no say in which offer they do and do not accept because Butters has the control in an OOC situation. Unlike contracted players....

People are quoting Ah Chee going to the PSD....Cal is still getting what he wants, he and his agent will tell every other team "Do not draft me i will not play for you"

This isn't 25 years ago where Nick Stevens got taken by Carlton instead of the Pies.
The player and the player union will make sure uncontracted players get where they want to go.
The PSD draft threat is the weakest posturing possible.

PSA to saints fans. Indirectly infer or directly comment that Mackie stuffed up. And I will issue a disagree reaction for that sheer stupidity.

The price was set, it was too high, we lose nothing. St.Kilda lose nothing. Neither party did anything wrong.
Yeah Mackie failed big time. Deal with it.

No one on geelongs side botched it. Botched it would have only happened if we did something silly like traded sdk for him. That would have made our next tilt worse than anything we would or wouldn't have done with said first rounder.

Both teams did was best for them and achieved their desired objective. End of story.
Soz but only one team achieved their desired objective. And it wasn't your lot.

I just disliked your post.

Imagine being so childish and petty that you threaten other posters on a forum because they have a different opinion?

I'm seriously lost for words. Well I'm not really lost, but if I used them, I'd get carded.

His a restricted free agent port have plenty of cap space and will match any offer put to him , so any top 8 club trading for him will have to pay up significantly, it definitely won’t be a fair deal for the club that’s involved if that’s what Geelong are probably thinking , and there will be zero threat off walking him to the draft as a bottom 4 club would happily take him
