Firstly love the drop of 2 ruckman, makes it a lot easier.

Just wondering what people's strategy is going to be with ruckman.

At the moment I have

Cox
White
Griffin
Sellar

The last 2 choices are the ones I'm worried about, it's not like other positions where you will be able to pick first round players who will be in the side from round 1 (i.e. Selwood, Davey, Houli, Jetta, Armitage, etc).

So do you chuck a Luke Darcy in there as a 3rd option or do you just rely on the top 2?

Also what are the chances of the 90,000 guys getting game? I've chucked in the two adelaide boys due to the fact that don't have any ruckman and those two have performed solid already in practice matches.

Brent Renouf might be another one in the mix?

I don't see Minson, Goldstein (especially given his bball background), Giles, West and Currie getting any gametime this year, perhaps someone else could enlighten us on the chance of the others?

Will it worth getting Paddy Ryder or dare I say it Cameron Cloke as a reserve just for that security? Or just put all the faith in the top 2 and trade if they get injured.

Hmm food for thought.

Get Ben Hudson, he is going to play really well this year, had almost two years out of the game and has picked it up just as quickly as anybody again.

He is only about $200,000.

I chose Renouf as one of my EMG along side Sellar and i am only relying on Sandilands and Darcy...
I think Renouf played well and he doesn't only play ruck he played BP for a few of the Nap Cup/ Practice matches???

Darcy and Sandilands are my combo.

Reserve ruckman are Taylor (He will be the No.2 ruckman for the hawks), and Griffen, seems to be ready for a big role this year for Adelaide.

No ones mentioned Luenberger?

Is he likely to play sooner than later, ive picked him but a bit unsure!

Sellar is very very unlikely to play a game for us this year. Not a good pickup.
Hudson will be our number 1 ruckman all year and should be fairly cheap - definately a good get. Griffin will play backup until Maric gets back from injury, and he's yet to play a game so he'll be cheap. Griffotron's strength is that he can play forward, so he may play up front for a bit each game given how many of our talls are injured at the moment - likely to slot a goal or two from time to time.

get rid of sellar. you've got 1 cash cow, 1 star, 1 question mark and 1 dog. sellar is a dog.

why do people tell other people who they have and who is going to improve etc?

Play for yourself, no one else

Personally, I've gone two guns, then Hudson and Griffin on the bench.

$10mill salary cap divided by 30 players = $333,333 ave player price.

4 x rucks (@ $333k ave) = $1.333mill to be spent on rucks (base).

My strategy was to go with two guns that will play every week, and score well every week. I wanted somebody on the bench that also played every week, that would score just OK, enough to cover one of my guns for a week or two without to much of a dent on the scoreboard or having to trade straight away (Hudson). My fourth ruck I just wanted someone to appreciate in price and realistically, would never see gametime (Griffin).

Knowing that Hudson + Griffin equals roughly $300k, I knew I could spend as much as I wanted on my two guns and stay well under my $1.333mill limit - so chose quality (note quality does not neccesarily mean most expensive).

Anyone who has Darcy as a starter is game/stupid in my book, anyone who has 2 x $90k on the banch the same. Two guns + one cheap regular + one nobody is definately the way to go IMO.

Your better off having 2 rucks who are going to play all year and 2 83-90k players who you may think might play to free up more cash elswhere
I have Cox and White as my main 2 with Griffen(90k) and Graham(83k) which means i am spending 1.153 million on the 4 which is well below the average but at least i am assured i am getting 100+ points a week from my big 2 and keeping some free cash for other positions by not getting a 3rd expensive ruck as a backup.Should 1 of my big 2 get injured i will rely on trades to pick up someone else

That's fine - I'd personally prefer to pick Hudson as insurance (at only $100k more than rookies) who will appreciate in value. I spent the (low) $$, he will appreciate, and I won't be forced into a trade.

For 30K more, you have Darcy who will begin up forward and kick some goals almost immediately. Will quickly appreicate in value in no time. Better value than Hudson and will be able to make money on him by Round 6-7.

The other point to keep in mind is that players wont start appreciating until round 3 so you can get a good look at guys like Hudson or Darcy in the 1st few weeks of the season and if you find their going well you can trade them into your side after a few weeks at no extra cost.
For mine Cox is ansolute must and having 2 big ruckman who are assured of big points will far outweigh picking cheaper rucks who arnt guarenteed to give you the same outlay just because you want some extra insurance

Hudson will score 60+ each week.
Agreed.

The Crows rucks could be good for DT.

Hudson should average at least 60 and will be cheap. Griffin will be dirt cheap and will play at least the first 6 rounds. He should average 40 odd.

Maric will be good value too when he comes back in about round 8 or 9.

yeah thats my strategy, im using supercoach as practice for strategies and that. I've got cox and mooney with darcy and griffin in the reserves. My plan is to trade mooney for someone like hudson after round 2 or 3. Im not sure if its a good strategy because id only be able to make one other trade for that week, while if i did out mooney in hudson now,id free up a crucial trade

yeh not sure why you would wanna trade him for hudson.
especially at that stage.
cant see the reason you wouldnt take hudson straight up from the start

What about Peter Everitt as a main ruckman? We know what he's capable of after 2005, and his poor form last year (avg. 75) means he should be good value. And considering Sydney is arguably the team with the most stoppages, he's bound to get plenty of action.

I don't understand why he's not higher rated. Is there something I don't know about him?

Totally agree,Whilst Hudson is cheap he is still a huge risk and thats why i prefer to see how he goes inthe first few weeks.I have Cox and White as my big 2 which will almost certainly guarentee 100+ points a game from these 2 which is worth the extra dollars spent
