A friend at work who knows someone close to StKilda reckons there are a few clubs interested in securing Ross Lyon as coach - Carlton is one of them.

Ah, a silly rumour but a great opportunity to vent my feelings on Ross Lyon and Saints footy, the biggest blight on the spectacle of our great game since Paul Roos took his Sydney scrum to a premiership in 2005.

Make no mistake, St Kilda has created ALL of the ugliest games of the last few years. Low scoring, congested, stoppage-infested travesties that were like watching a python strangle a pig. That they never managed to win a flag doing it proved that there is a God because all the other teams would be copycatting it by now. It was also because that style just did not hold up against really good teams, because if your plan is to win a game with 10 goals you will not do it against sides as good as they met in the last 2 season's deciders. They kicked 9, 10 and 7 goals in their 3 GFs, an indictment on the coach if ever there was.

And forget the myth that but for the bounced of the ball they would have beaten Collingwood. The only reason the ball in question was heading goalward was because it took a freaksihly lucky bounce, and the only reason they had a sniff was because Pies kicked badly in the first half. GF two showed the real gap in quality.

No, Lyon is a crap coach, and if he or anyone had the Mighty Blues playing that style of footy I would bin my membership.

But seriously, rant aside, I honesty don't believe that style of footy can win a flag. It'll beat up weaker sides, strangle others in tight contests, but it will not beat really good teams when it counts.

Yeah, there is a LOT to be said for winning flags. Debates about ends and means don't belong on this forum and I am sorry what was intended as a flippant remark has offended some people's sense of what a supporter is.

I agree but I've been born into the navy family. I live and die by my football club no matter what. If I survived 2002-2008 then I can surely live through whatever rat infested hell hole comes next.

For me, the ONLY reason I would ever stop supporting the CFC is if they once again systematically cheated the salary cap. If we can't win a flag with the people we have at the club then get better people, don't screw over the fans by rorting the cap and sending us back to the bad old days !!!!!!

ANYTHING outside of that is fine by me, be it player movements, new coaches, crappy game plan or, god forbid, a prolonged period without success, I will stick by the club, but I can't go through another decade of hell due to the stupidity of those running the club.
