Shit yeah. Remember when he was the General of our backline last year, was just plain killing them.

Remember the job he did on Stevie J that was his coming out party towards the end of '09?

Thanks EBIAC! :thumbsu:

If it takes more than Mitchell to get O'meara (aka an AA midfielder having the best season of his life) then I doubt many clubs would have a chance of landing him .........

And what a way to rip the guts out of your team by "selling" Mitchell to GWS. Given that he's got a year to run on his contract, and an option for another year in 2013, i'd be amazed if he goes anywhere.

Will be fascinating to watch clubs fall all over themselves to get O'Meara.

Massive rumour going around work this morning from very good sources saying Sam Mitchell to GWS.

Interesting that this one is gaining momentum. First heard about it on the rumors threads about a week ago. Didn't believe it as he is 29 and GWS have said that they'd sign only players who can give them 4-5+ years.

However, when you're desperate......

Don't know about desperate...Mitchell would be an ideal candidate. Considered top shelf by most in football (a rung below by myself, but I digress), gets the most out of himself, provides solid leadership, 3-4 years of good football left. Importantly he is a strong body and elite around stoppages which I think is of utmost importance for the young and relatively lightweight GC and GWS squads.

I think where GC messed up a little is that a number of their senior recruits (Krakoeur, Harbrow, Fraser, Brennan even Bock and Brown) don't provide much in the way of leadership...I think GWS will take a slightly different tack and go after some types with greater leadership qualitites.

Care to divulge what else was said or is there an article in the works? ;)

Thanks mate..
Had a nice long interview with him and shall be writing it up when I'm home. The chat was more based around him rather than player goss, but I can PM you the link when it's up and running. :thumbsu:

Hawks want O'Maera badly.

They made a similar trade to draft Hodge by dumping Croad who loved Hawthorn.

Great move if they can pull it off.

The Hawks would have to put something else on the table besides a 29 year old to get a player who has ten years ahead of him.

*cough* Campbell Brown to Port Adelaide *cough*

Problem with this is that players with more leadership qualities OR who have been provided with leadership opportunities by their club tend to show more loyalty to that said club. I find it extremely difficult to believe that a former captain of a club would walk away for money, especially considering there's no additional lure such as returning to their home state.

I also find it extremely difficult to believe that the Hawks would trade off their vice captain (?) and one of their most integral players for what is admittedly a young-gun who shows plenty of potential BUT is untried in the AFL system.

There are often high rewards for those willing to take such risks.
Not knowing how all that would pan out and if for that matter the rumour has any weight to it, but if Hawthorn are toying with the notion, (for whatever reason) good on them.

Paul Connors has been involved in some decent trades and re-signings for the Blues in recent years. I have a bit of faith in him, but he should do what is best for Butcher and encourage loyalty if at all possible.

You're amazing, the loyalty act I feel is a cover up. I feel you wouldn't like any player I had a interest in us signing, that could be a target. I doubt we get him, because My team Carlton, hasn't signed a big player since Richard Pratt passing, or since Chris Judd signing. John Butcher would fit perfect in Carlton plans to be successful. Port Adelaide are lucky to be granted a AFL license. John Butcher is a Victorian, and why wouldn't he want to play in the most successful club of the Last Century. The only loyalty could be to the mighty dollar, although I would hope players would love a chance to play in a Premiership.

Get Butcher!!
Would be fantastic for the Blues! Although we would need to give up a fair bit to get him...Even though he is out of contract and if he did choose CFC as his club of choice.

Could see Port playing hard ball in this scenario....Hampson or Russell anyone?

This kid is going to be a gun, future 70-80 goal kicker, get him Blues!:thumbsu:

I'd also be happy to offer up Russell, we can replace a half back/mid defender. A big marking forward is our missing link to winning number 17

Lot of crystal balls with this line of thought on Butcher. He has shown a lot of promise but has only played a couple of games. Would have to pay a huge ammount to get him. A very speculative risk.

Rather go for somebody with runs on the board.

sorry to intrude but I'm a real John Butcher fan and would really love to see him come to a good isde that is crying out for someone with abilities just like his.

imo Russell by himself isn't gonna cut it to get the deal done . I reckon if Butcher asks to be traded and Port have to do business they would probably ask for Hampson and a first rounder.

Fair to say in 2 games Butcher has increase his next contract from 300k over 2 years to 1.1million over 3 years?
