RE: Lake

An injury prone 30 year old who is owed roughly $1.5M over the next 2 years. Also rumoured to have "issues" at the Dogs.

That means if they want him out, and you are prepared to take on the contract, then it becomes cheap in terms of trading.

At least it's not costing us pick 11, if true. Run the scanner over him and if the medical comes back sound then he'd be worth a look.

Yeh worth a look , I thought his issues were with Eade more so than the Dogs,

Would that be the medical test that O'Reilly and Mclean passed?

And Steve Johnson and Joel Selwood reportedly failed?

Go with your gut and say no to Lake.

Not pick 11, just $1.5M

That's alot of coin isn't it.

I'm not really a fan of getting old blokes but TBH if I were looking at this deal the key's would be; is his body good enough and what's our structure going to look like if he's in the team.

After Smorgon made the ridiculous GF statement pre-season I reckon there was alot of presssure on Eade and co to get Lake on the park, particularly after their poor start.

We've seen what poor pre-seasons from injury returns have done for some of our players this year so while he's expensive I could see a senario where we take him for 2 years (apparently we have the salary room) and grab a GF or two while the likes of Watson mature.

Who knows, probably a load of BS anyway.

Can I take the Selwood option please.:D

Seriously though, clubs would have looked at him and thought will his knee last 10 years. Obviously some thought not and perhaps others were looking for needs based players rather than best available, kinda like us.

I agree it smells of Bradshaw from the outside but we don't need Lake for 10 years and I think the club has enough internal KPP talent to grow its own, we're just not quite there yet.

We and the club are getting impatient for a GF appearance and he could be a vital missing piece. If he breaks down we've done some dough.

Life without risk is not a life as they say so I'll accept the club's decision either way should this rumour eventuate into some sort of fact.

He had issues with the coaching staff when they forced him to play when he told them he wasn't right. Perhaps they should have listened to him when he said he wasn't right after all those operations. Just sayin. Mightn't be in this injury situation otherwise.

If Carlton are after Lake like some of youz are saying then theyve really lost the plot over there

McCartney must think that Gunston, Grant, Sherman, Giansiracusa, Dahlhaus and Jones will be a world beating forwardline.

This draft must be poor if Gunston is being chased this hard.

Boring trade week if he's the second best player on the move after Clark.

The Dogs could send a pick and Howard back home to get Gunston.

Adelaide fans will want Griffen.

Possibly and a lot would have to go right for the consideration, but a little tyre kicking won't hurt.

If we could get him for fair money and if he was injury free, we largely take care of our key back posts and can send Hendo forward whilst the likes of McCarthy, Mitchell and Watson develop another year or two.

Lots of ifs in the equation and probably won't happen, but let's see.

That doesn't surprise me.
With Hall and Ward gone, the Dogs must be seen to be doing something.
Not sure the fans would be happy to see the Dogs sitting on their hands.

The Dogs must have gone crazy after losing Callan Ward. Depending on how highly they rate Gunston it could explain why they're planning on taking massive unders on Lake and potentially others in order to free up room and trade for two or three kids who will take much more than they're worth to play for the Dogs.

My preference, wouldn't bother with Lake if #22 or a top 15 player had to be involved.

I'm with you. We're building a pretty strong team for the post Judd era with guys like Lucas, Watson etc in recent years. Lets keep on doing what we've been doing unless an unmissable opportunity comes up.

The money is a killer too, completely destroys any flexibility we've got and not sure he is worth it.

Agree with your two the big "ifs" Harks, just feel that on Lake's contract and injury / age status, we're going to have to compromise payments to other Players (aka the effect Fev had on Brissie's salary gap) and end up playing Hendo down back because Lake will be injured.

Also reckon Hendo's shown a lot more down back than up forward, just reckon that if we're trying to get Lake so Hendo can go up forward we may as well trade for a key forward - pay them the money Lake would be getting, and if it means throwing in a "Bower" as extra to what we'd trade for Lake, would work out better in the long run.

Having said that, not sure what good key forwards are out there and availalble. Swann was on SEN a couple of weeks back saying the Blues need a key forward which don't grow on trees and another hard bodied mid.

But getting Lake at his age and with his injuries, could end up being our worst trade since McLean.

There is another "if" in the mix which I don't put in previously.
If he has his attitude right and his head screwed on.
Looked mentally all over the shop when interviewed this year. He just seemed really troubled.

he also looked a little chubby, and given that would prefer a stewie dew

It makes sense that if we can't get the one or two players we really want, then we may just have to let it all fizzle to nothing.
I wonder that with Icke being ousted that things have got a little harder than would have been otherwise.

Last year was a bumper harvest, with the talent yet to debut at AFL level, we have exciting times, by all reports it's gonna be a quiet trade period.

Reckon Thy and Splendini need a room ?
