Someone suggested the exact opposite after speaking to someone close to Grigg and hearing that he's happy at Carlton.

We'll decide who is a big loss.

Any player who would give us depth and coverage for injury is a big loss.

A Collingwood fan once asked why would we want four rucks on our list.

Kreuzer's injury is why we wanted four ruckman.

SG has a better future at Carlton than GC.

They will have plenty of picks to draft a player like Grigg.

Grigg is no loss to us, we enough midfielders already. But that doesnt mean he wont be a good player if given a chance to play consistent football with the GC.

I don't want to lose Grigg.

I rate what he could bring to our midfield as a goal kicking midfielder.

Has the legspeed to spread and block because he has some hardness that is underrated.

Like it or not, the 30 year old Scotland will jump the shark in the next year or two.

Judd turns 28 next year.

And Mclean has to get himself match fit again.

Davies and ROK are unproven.

We need to keep Grigg.

The Herald-Sun said you need more left footers to win a flag like the Hawks. ;) :p

Not a rumour - but I'd like to make a play for David Myers from Essendon.

Clearly Knights doesn't rate him, so we should take advantage of this.
Myers should look at the GC or GWS to shaft Essendon.

Welsh, Dyson and Jetta are outs, yet Myers wasn't picked again this week.

Colyer and Howlett are ahead of him.

Knights needs to bite the bullet and play Myers like we played Russell so he can develop.

Yet that muppet will probably beat us again.

Yeah, I know - Myers and Houli are better off elsewhere.

I'd happily take Myers off their hands.

Yes but....most posters look at it from the clubs point of view and the club have probably told him they'd like him to stay but any self respecting player on a list would rather play seniors than not and he's certainly been missing out.

From the player's point of view it makes sense to test the waters elsewhere. He's not getting a regular game and that could be because he's signed with GC or it could be that he's not considered worthy for whatever reason.

He's seen lucas come into the club and pretty much go straight past him and while the standard retort will be, 'well he just needs to work harder' I see nothing wrong with him looking elsewhere for opportunity.

He could effectively start from scratch at GC and build a career to be proud of.

Yes it would be nice to have all these half decent backups but most wont sit around on a list for years being a backup.

Most likely guaranteed more money, probably guaranteed a spot in the rnd 1 lineup next year, form/inuries permitting.

Why wouldn't he?

Grigg should be getting more games top 20 pick looks like he has signed otherwise he would be getting more games. if he has signed should noy be played for rest of the season.

I've said it a million times on here but I'll say it again - you can NEVER have enough quality midfielders.

Spot on J :thumbsu:

Agree completely with the 2 comments above.

I would hate to see how our midfield would look minus, say JUDD or MURPHY.

Gees we only have 1 A grade midfielder as it is, Murphy is still a high b grader but not an a grader. Gibbs has somewhat stagnated, could be because of his positioning by Ratts, but has not developed as much as i would have liked. Simpson is a good B grader, but will not get any better than what he is giving now. McLean is a good honest trier. Yarran next year will be given more time, but after that our list falls away pretty quickly.

Pretty thin after that i reckon...

See take out Ablett from Geelong and they still have a list of Selwood, Corey, Ling, Chapman, Bartel, Varcoe. Without Ablett, they still have the best on ball division in the competition.

Grigg was picked and then dropped because he signed with GC the day after the Brisbane game.

True but this has also seen us with little quality in our fwds or backs...particularly our backs. Pick 18 is the best we've spent down there and it shows.

Yarran up fwd is the only recent draft pick we've used up fwd (aside from Fev/Hendo trade) and it also shows.

So right on one score..you can never have enough quality mids but eventually it could be at the detriment the other areas of the ground...the exact position we are in now.

I'm sure WHs will use his first live pick (or trade) on a KPP player this year or a quality HBFer. We're screaming out for it.

Don't be so sure.

Hughes' recruiting philosophy is to pick the best available, especially at our earlier draft selections.

He's shown that he does not deviate this and to expect him to change is a little naive.

If a KPP or a HBF is the best available at our selections then you are right.

Don't be surprised to see Lucas become a player off the HB line and he has shown enough to suggest he's got a big future ahead of him.

Let's not start this argument again by saying we should have drafted Talia ahead of him because he's a KPP.

Last I checked we had a #1, #2 and #9 down there too.

I'm hoping it's a trade because our 1st live pick in any other season would be equivalent to, pick 40-50...

Because GC17 have taken the best 16-17 year-olds last season and have signed local lads as well, this years draft will be a speculation draft at best...

e.g. Josh Toy is a youngster who would have been a top 3 pick this year that signed over 12 months ago and yet no-one speaks about.

If he has signed it would be a mistake to keep him out through spite.

In fact all the more reason to play him if good enough. On ytd form he probably has little currency so it is in our interest from a trade point of view to give him every chance to his increase his value

If he's in our best side he should be picked even if only to maximise our possible return
