On Triple M last night(Melb) i think it may have been Damien Barrett that reported that young Carlton star Chris Yarren may have walked out on the club..

Does anyone know?

There has been talk of him wanting to go at years end but Carlton talking him around. Plenty of 'gossip' but very little fact. Interesting.

Pick 6 - Yarran
Pick 7 - Rich

Do you think they can still justify that choice?

not sure if the rumour is true, but if he ends up back in WA i hope the slime get him, the last thing we need is a talented, completely uncommitted player, would look completely out of place next to suban, hilly, palmer, mayne etc

I'd like to land young Yarren at Freo.

What trade could we work out though...thats the interesting thing.
Can he be traded..isn't there a rule of atleast staying 2 years on the list after being drafted unless delisted?

the way i believe it to be is that a first year player can not be traded, however as we have seen with collard they can be delisted, if this is the case then we could pick him up in the PSD, but why would carlton do this? they wouldnt... if yarran walked out on the club, then he would have to sit out next year as he would still be contracted for next year.

I think there is no chance we would see yarran at freo next year... again though, when you look at the players we have typicall drafted over the last couple of years in mayne, palmer, suban, hill, deboeer etc.... i dont think yarrans work ethic would suit.... unfortunately he seems another ashley sampi type, all the skill in the world, less than zero drive to succeed

Pick 6 is always notoriously bad!

I read somewhere last year that they can still be traded but only under special circumstances, I don't know what qualifies that!!

makes sense seeing as they played him when he didnt deserve a spot a couple ofweeks ago, probably a last ditch attempt to keep him

If he is unhappy in Melbourne, would he not be better of playing for Freo'/WC... He wouldn't be homesick, which may be why he can't fully focus on being a pro footy player ATM, if indeed, that is the case....

First off, this rumour has been circulating since before the season even started. At one stage, it had evolved into Yarran having actually left Victoria for good. So I don't buy this rumour at all.

But hypothetically, lets say he wanted to come home to WA. I would definitely be interested in trading for him, if we get a priority pick. We would have to offer at least our second round pick and a player (Marcus Drum), which I would have no problem in offering. Carlton supporters would say it would have to be a first round pick, but if somebody wants to leave the state then they wouldn't have a lot of bargaining power.

But I would only do this, if we had a priority pick too. As we need to take a KPP with our second pick, and we can't really afford to leave that until the third round.

id prefer another nic suban than a chris yarran, and thats what we could get with a second round pick... i think we are better off recruiting and developing our own players than taking a chance on a kid who doesnt want to play, or whos commitment can be questioned... wait untill the end of next year and take him in the psd if we must but other than that let him be carltons problem

Bugger Carlton ! Wouldnt deal with them ever again ! Would love to see West Coast snub them too. Let him go into the PSD so they get **** all for him. Now that would be priceless. :thumbsu:

Geeeez.. Carlton are actually starting to take over our unwanted mantle of dud trades and bad picks:D

Seems that the only mutual ground that West Coast and Freo fans have is a hate for Carlton :)

Seems to be just a rumour and nothing else. In saying that, if he did want to come home I'd hope the club wouldn't trade for him unless it was something ridiculous like a third or fourth rounder. No matter how safe the trade would apparently be, we should not be giving up top round draft picks. It definitely hasn't worked for us in the past.

Harvey and co will know if he is a lost cause or not (ala mourish/collard). We seem to be recruiting mentally strong players now so i'll trust his judgement.

Would he be on a 2-yr deal or 1-yr deal? If the former, we'd obviously have to trade. Give them Drum and leave it at that I say. Oh but Yarran was a #6 pick ... oh but Drum was #10, have pick 75 as well if you want, ... take it or leave it.

If he is on a 1 year deal (not sure why this would be the case), then take him in the PSD.

I tell myself I'm at odds with myself over what I thought about Collard, but there is no denying the talent of Yarran. He could end up being that uncommitted waste of talent, or he could be a superstar. Worth the risk? Have to leave that up to our people to decide.

We have Walters and Pearce in our team ... maybe he just wants to play with his mates? Then we can get Naitanui to walk out on the Eagles and have them all together again!

all recruited players in the national draft (not the rookie or pre-season drafts) have to be given a two year contract.... afl rules

Sounds like the rumours are baseless.

does sound that way, although the rumours were never that he was going to walk out and come to freo/slime, they were that he was just going to disappear ashley sampi style, that rumour is more plausible, but i still reckon it is baseless

Rumours being flying around for a while now

MMM asked Steve Kernahan whether Yarran had walked out of the club, and Sticks said he hadn't heard anything about it. Yarran listed to play in the Bullants (Carlton seconds) tomorrow

A couple of months ago a similar rumour flew around when Yarran went back to WA for a family funeral - the rumour was that he would never come back again.

He's probably getting homesick, as any 18 year old might when moved to another state, but there's nothing concrete to suggest he's going back to WA.

For what it's worth he's a great talent and he could develop into something special.

he could also turn into a sampi, but he definetly has talent, i would suggest a lot of this is baseless inuendo, but sometimes the rumours are true, we will soon know if he doesnt rock up to the bullants tomorrow anyhow

Guys we do not want to take Yarran. He is better off in the Eastern States away from certain elements he was mixing with in WA.

There are serious issues behind Yarran and for legal reasons no-one can comment any further. If you were in Melbourne earlier this round when certain headlines on certain papers were doing the rounds you could of made the connection easily. However - again there are legal reasons why nothing can be said.
