Running For The Board; I REALLY need your help

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

I’m philosophically in favour of a member-elected board, right up until I read some of the opinions posted on this board.
One of the things Koch is right about is that members are more likely to choose football people. When I think member elected I think of a football focused board. Koch just seems to think 1-2 is enough football people to make the community proud.

You don’t need more than 4 non-executive accountant/laywer/media types to run a $60m-odd turnover small-medium business.

I canned my membership at the end of 2020, so obviously I wouldn't be eligible to vote even if I renewed today.

I told the membership person I spoke to back then that I wouldn't renew until both koch and kern were gone but would rejoin once that happened, and I'm staying true to that statement.

The above aside I wish Brett all the best in his endeavours to firstly gain a seat on the board, and secondly be successful in convincing the current powers that be of what was once the major reason for the PAFC's existence!

It's a shame there are so many on BigFooty who have let their membership lapse and it would be great to see the club get to the point where they want to re-engage.

You can still help though by sharing the message and encouraging people you know who are members to vote.

There's a wide range of members opinions but the majority who bother to vote aren't from the lunatic fringe.

You're far more likely to get a competent board member with the club's best interests at heart via a member election than one hand picked by David Koch.
Probably the saddest part about Tredrea is he was the loudest speaker against the current regime but unfortunately he couldn't keep his personal politics in check. That would have harmed the push for member elected board majority. However I am pleased that Brett is prepared to bring this issue to the board and he will get my vote.

I have kept my membership active, from 1997 to 2026, and have been rewarded with a current membership card highlighting my 30 years of highs and lows. To keep the cost down I only have a GA concession membership.

Your job would be to bring them back into the fold for the next election if you miss out on this one.

For sure. I won't be going anywhere and I'll keep speaking up for what I believe in but let's not pin hopes on future elections. The time is now. The member control issue is going to come to a head in 2028 and that is in the term of this vote.

It's my understanding that unlike the AFC there is nothing in our constitution that enables us to become member controlled on 31 October 2028 or any earlier date mutually agreed with the AFL. So the issue won't come to a head as Koch and his board have feigned ignorance of any such provision.

If we make sure that all the Crows members are aware of their provision and every Port member is aware that the Crows can do it, the pressure on the AFC and PAFC to make change will be immense.

If the Crows are allowed to not give the club back to the members in 2028 and Port is not pressured to do the same the opportunity may never come up again.

Whatever they write into the constitution then will be very hard to change.

Great to see you’re running Brett, big fan of your writing and have cited it a few times in my TikTok videos. A shame I’m not a member and as such can’t vote for you, but I’m happy to do whatever I can to assist your campaign, and will absolutely be posting a video endorsing you as my preferred candidate. Best of luck mate!

I'm going to get called Greg forever now aren't I...

Always ET for me. I know a few real names here, but the BF identifies have precedence. I can’t help myself.

Who is this Greg character......

All the best though. I ditched memberships back in 2020 and was waiting for Hinkley to be gone, and honestly Koch and Richo now. But I also think the long drawn out debacle since then has seen me lose interest in getting a membership again at this stage. But I hope you win.

Do you support Australia Days date change? Apparently absolutely everybody working there does so you'll get the Warren T treatment if you step out of line on this. Good luck trying to fix anything when you come in already with zero ability to change anything, they'll just vote 10 - 2 and continue doing whatever they want with their club.

I have my own thoughts but honestly it's such a polarising issue it is one I'd just stay out of.

I will choose my battles and my focus will be putting football first and focusing on accountability.

Maybe you could point out that obvious point to the board/club once you are on. Why are we constantly taking positions on things that the club has no business doing, all it achieves is antagonising members needlessly.

I hope you do well and accountability starts with a member elected board otherwise we continue on like we do. Getting on is one thing, being listened to once you are there when your against a stacked deck is a massive battle to get anywhere.

Yes. Other have advised me against running for that reason but the alternative is to just sit back and do nothing which is even worse.

StrappingTape if it is something you feel strongly about, you can actually nominate yourself at the next member election.

Over the last few seasons there have definitely been times when I've been disenchanted with the club but I've never let my membership lapse. One reason is that I've been too stubborn to let people like Ken and Koch be the reason for it, and the other is so that whenever there is an opportunity to make changes, I am able to do my bit.

If nothing else you can at least make Koch feel uncomfortable by questioning him in board meetings.
