Its a terrible shame but I'm not surprised about the decision.

As with most things in society these days, minority groups with loud voices seem to scare the bejesus out of organisations and governments who bend over backwards to appease them.

That smug, arrogant c**khead Ward Young who led the charge and has obviously never ridden or owned a horse in his life will pop up again sooner or later on some other campaign.

Well looks like next year will be my last trip to the Bool for the carnival. The RVL has bowed to these minority w***ers because it won't hurt their hip pocket. Wait until these same tossers protest against flat racing (which they will). The RVL will hit the with a big stick. Shame on you RVL or sacrificing the jumps industry, the 'Social Engineers' have had a win over you.

Very sad. Sad it is gone, and sad that Racing Victoria bowed from the pressure of a small group of people. Pissweak.

The sad thing is, losing the jumps here will probably be the start of the end for it country wide. Come 2012, jump racing will probably be gone.

Sad day for all racing enthusiasts with Jumps Racing going by the way side, lets hope they can get enough support and overthrow this incompetent board. The decision is purely to appease the minority and to say it's not viable financially, wagering and participation are down is rubbish. The only reason participation was down because there was no guarantee that jumping would continue so trainers/owners were concentrating on other horses etc and the betting turnover etc you can't expect huge turnover when most jumps were on Monday/Tuesday and very early on the card. As for the fatality rate 8 horses died from jumps racing in the past season - compared to how many that have fallen, broken down and had to be euthenised in flat racing ??? Also the rubbish about the polls they done - who did they poll ? what were the questions ?

I would have thought that at that race meeting at Sandown this year where the supporters far outweighed the protestors (many of whom were paid) would have sent a message to the board that there is support for jumps racing from the entire industry but they have gone against what the industry wants to go with the minority. And seriously I would have thought that Hugh Wirth and his RSPCA cohorts would have more serious issues about animal welfare than jumps racing to worry about. And how Ward Young a Uni student got so much air time and say in a debate he knows nothing about was beyond me. So what RVL have effectively done is put people out of jobs, families out of business and sending horses to their death to appease a small minority who can now sit in their suburban homes feeling happy for themselves that they've made a difference without knowing what effect they have had on normal ordinary peoples lives, these people are the same people that really have no idea whats happening outside of their little perfect lives and especially not in the country. Lets hope this board does get overthrown and the whole industry gets behind the jumps racing community.

But if this is the end of Jumps racing in Victoria for good I hope SA can show some initiative and boost their jumps racing profile prizemoney and take advantage and get the horses/trainers/workers over there as it might be the boost SA Racing needs

Ironically all most of the horses are going to be put down now as they have no use or their owners cant afford to keep them. It bascially means his gonna kill about 10-15 years worth of horses if they were jump racing, maybe even more as the jumps season here in is is short.

I don't think the morons behind this decision really know what they have bought upon the racing industry for the future.

Yes, we all know that straight away hundreds of horses will be sent to the knackery, but there is also the future impact.

As a past race horse owner (and hopefully future one) I have seen the progress a young promising stayer makes, and if that young promising stayer turns out to be a "plodder", they are usually then sent to jumps school and become a jumps horse over time.

That option will no longer exist for owners/trainers so those horses too will end up at the knackery.

This all reeks of the uneducated and pompous arses that are at the RSPCA.

I just can't believe the whole thing. I love jumps racing. Jumps racing got me into horse racing. I have been going to the Oakbank carnival since I was 4! Nothing beats it.
For an organisation that puts on such a great spectacle as the spring carnival, I am stunned at the actions of RV. What a farcical situation they have created. The truth is they never wanted jumps racing to succeed based on past reviews. I read earlier that they refused to bring in safer jumps from overseas. This is what it comes down to. Any racing fan with half a brain could tell them that the pathetic changes they implemented in past reviews would not work.

Which raises the obvious question of why we are therefore pandering to people who currently do not have or are unlikely to ever have any interest in the sport.

Rob Hines is such a dick. He is worried about upsetting the 18-27yo demographic who he sees as critical to the success of racing going forward. News for you Rob: these people will still go once a year to Derby Day every year regardless of whether you run jumps races 365 days of the year.

I don't expect to see a sudden surge in the youth market at mid winter meetings as a result of this decision.

Sadly this how much of the world operates these days. Whoever wins the PR campaign wins. The successful side stirs up debate and convinces those that don't even really care one way or the other to choose sides. Do you think that 99.9% of those surveyed spend 1 second of their day concerned about jumps horses. This is how much they TRULY care. But hey, they participated in a survey.........so their opinion counts.

The speed they run them at now is the one and only problem with jumps racing.

The sad thing is if this remains the case, then the next target will be the 2YO's (too young to be racing), then distance racing (too cruel to be running them over that distance), then racing altogether.
