Ryan Griffen doesn't want to leave Melbourne

How come clubs didnt pick up Ball before collingwood at 28 then? Because his wages were going to be too high. We would do the same with Griffen.

Ball was delisted by St Kilda before a certain date and was able to nominate himself for the ND, due to his age, leg, groin and hernia injuries in the past many clubs were not willing to draft him so early, this then opened the door for Collingwood to swoop in and use pick 28. I doubt the Western Bulldogs would delist him, hence allowing him to nominate for the ND. I would think they would do everything to keep him and then, if he still decided to leave would trade him. Wages come into play during the PSD and Essendon who have a higher pick than us are also very interested in picking him up. Therefore, taking the PSD out of the equation on out behalf.

Surely the Gold Coast would have no salary cap space left either to get him in the PSD...but that would be a mute point anyway because we could take him with pick 12 for example in the national draft!

If and a huge if he was able to be delisted and then nominate for the PSD, i would assume a club like West Coast, Richmond or even Essendon would be very happy to draft a 23 year old with an early ND pick.

Its a good idea but both the PSD and the ND are not really a practical way of us pickiong him up.

Why don't we get Griffen in the PSD...and screw the crap out of the dogs :)

Or in the ND, Luke Ball style...
That's not how it works, GC would jump at getting a mature bodied 24 year old potential gun and would use an early pick for him. I'm not sure Griff is the type of bloke who would want to screw the club over either, you want him you can pay market price and for a young guy who is essentially a blue chip investment thats a high price.

And you would be exactly right. Having met him a few times, you can tell he is really good guy, and definately not one to screw the club over. He has talked about how he definately doesnt want to leave the bulldogs, having got very strong ties there. Eg, With Lindsay Gilbee after both of their dad's died from cancer, the club helping him through that tough time, plus he has bought a house in Geelong with Cooney, Higgins and Timmy Callan.

I am very, very, vey confident he will not be leaving the bulldogs. And if he did, it would almost definately be to a melbourne club.

Nothing to that article. Remember the Crows were also stating that they were confident of signing Bock. I will take Griffen's managers no comment on any discussion as more of a positive. No one at the Dogs or Griffen himself will say they they are going to part ways with finals around the corner.

"Crows football operations manager Phil Harper said while former South Adelaide running machine Griffen is out of contract at the end of the season, his manager had told him that he wants to stay in Melbourne"

The article also states

Griffen's manager, Nigel Carmody, would not be drawn into speculation over his client, simply saying negotiations were ongoing with the Bulldogs and that he doubted any contract would be signed until after the club's finals campaign was over.
He would not comment on speculation leading Griffen to Adelaide.

As per normal for the advertiser, a bs article not really telling anyone anything!

He can't go to Gold Coast as Harbrow is already signed....oops he can't be signed until the end of season in this farce but the Bulldogs know he is gone. This makes Griffen only ably to get in a bidding war with the current AFL clubs and the Crows can trump the Bulldogs....if he wants to come to Adelaide.

That was my point about making the Crows give up something decent for Griffen if they want him. The GC can still trade their 10 million picks in the draft and if he did slip through they would get in before every club and take him in the draft.

My comments about Bock was just an observation and we are the same with Harbrow, you can understand why they are going but it still pisses you off no end. It's funny how when a player leaves any club for money the supporters will boo and turn on that player (Nathan Brown) but when a player comes to your club for cash he's a great bloke (Jade Rawlings). All supporters are the same just one of those funny things about footy.

IMO just up the ante and offer him $600K as our marquee player

We need an elite midfielder and the only way we can get one is to offer him over market value.
Our salary cap available money will possibly never be as available as it is now, and our list management requirements and team requirements (for a premiership tilt) are all aligned (ie an elite running midfielder who can kick is our biggest need).

At least if he still knocks us back, the club can say that they tried.

I totally agree.

Adelaide have alwas treated $550k as their magic barrier in the past, which has worked fine even for McLeod and Ricciuto, but is a barrier for getting top notch players back to Adelaide.

I'd offer Griffen $600k if that would do the trick, even if the thought is that's $50 K too much.

Griffen would be a massive coup for our club if we could land him.

I just have this feeling we are going to land this big fish...

Even after he has repeatedly, be it by radio interview, internet interview, tv interview, said that he does NOT want to go back to Adelaide? And that he wants to stay in Melbourne? I am pretty sure thats some indication that you are not going to get him...

whats he supposed to say when they are in the middle of a finals campaign? that he wants to go? if he was such a sure thing to remain there a deal wouldda been done before now mate!

We were told that for months by Bock mate, you can never be certain until they actually re-sign. And he wouldn't say anything otherwise during a finals capaign, that'd be idiotic.

Would it be better if he came out and said this:

"Sorry Bulldogs, i don't want to stay, i want a trade to Adelaide for next season. Please continue to play me through these important finals"

Its not the NRL.... Need to focus on the important thing right now. Thats the finals for the Dogs

He can worry about being traded after :)

He'll go back to Adelaide. Why wouldn't he?

We all know, and accept, that Adelaide is the centre of the universe...

Deep down, we all want to go there!

:D:):eek::eek:

Their is no need for this type of behavior, if you are confident in him staying, fine but don't belittle us by insulting our city.

If his primary motivation is to move cities he lives in for more money or family reason, nothing will stop him, if he move, he will move to Antarctica. However belittling the city of Adelaide should get you an infraction as it has nothing to do with it, you ignorant ****.

You missed my points, Alex.

Firstly, if you look at the emoticons you'd have to realise I was kidding. We had our honeymoon in the Barossa, and have been back to Adelaide many times since. Always enjoy it.

I'd probably get infractions on other team boards for admitting that! :D

Secondly, I was writing in the style some posters on this board use - Adelaide will get its man because, well, we're Adelaide. We won't be trading Knights et al, because we know they're good. Therefore, we'll get Griffen for next to nothing, because the Dogs (or any other club we deal with) will bend over for us. It's just a bit parochial for me...
