I would have been, then again I have always rated him.

IMO he is more important to our side than Dan Cullen who has promised so much but delivered....... well nothing. I would have been far happier letting him go and playing Bailey than losing our opening bowler who yes has had one good season but its one more than what most of the players have had.

I am going to shot down but I think that the form of Cullan or Baily(and our all round capitulation as a cricket team) is because we do not have a ______ing clue about player developement and when the player finally get it right, we let them go!

The domestic season needs a overhall, our youth development system is a shambles(I know kids who are in it atmo) AND we need a board clean out.

Peter McIntyre is right - CA should step in and Investigate the state of Cricket in SA and force the changes that the SACA are too stuborn to make.

I dont think youll get shot down at all, in fact I think youre pretty well on the mark. IMO I dont think Cullen is as talented as most people (mainly media) would have us believe but you are right, our development is up the famous creek.

Why doesn’t South Australia look at importing someone?

We cannot convince any Australian who has an ounce of talent to play hear so why not go and import a fast bowler and a batter who can help. Go and get a bowler Haggard or Flintoff as well as a batter like Kevin Pieterson or Chris Gayle, it doesn’t really matter who it is. Just go and get someone who can help win some games. .

Our player go over to England all the time, why not get some of them to come here.

No shortage of precedents. I remember there used to be a time when Joel "Big Bird" Garner used to play for SA. Andy Flower (Zimbabwean batsman, once rated world #1) also played for SA, but that was a bit different - he had left Zimbabwe never intending to return.

Without Rhino we still have Cleary, Rofe, Putland (Who really deserves a go) as seamers with two strong spinners and a decent all rounder with fingers crossed someone like Lambert to come over and help out. It doesn't leave us with much depth admittedly but it's hardly a disaster.

The SACA don’t like Cleary. He should be in our side for every single match and yet he rarely plays and when he does he’s often dropped the very next week even if he performed.

Rofe? Did okay this season but hardly sends fear into the opposition. Putland? Dudland? Nah just kidding, that’s a BigFooty joke, but he doesn’t come across as one who will be a great strike bowler. And that’s it, there are our seamers? Scary stuff for opposition batting line ups!

Dan Cullen is a dud. All the hype, the Cricket Australian contract, the help from Warne, he is a dead set DUD! Cullen Bailey’s no better. We should’ve sent both of them packing, Cullen can’t take wickets and Bailey can’t even get a game!

So the choice was probably between chasing interstate depth or re-signing a bloke who in my opinion was made to look good in an atrocious team.

Why then didn’t anyone else look good? He had a terrific season in a horrendous team, that’s always a very hard thing to do.

He was not a matchwinner, just a decent 2nd or 3rd string bowler and a handy lower end batter. I'm disapointed that we lost him, just the devestation being bandied around seems a bit over the top to me.

I doubt anyone is truly devastated he’s gone, more so angry at the fact the SACA let our best performing player go for no obvious reason, other than the fact we’re stingy and are determined to get even worse.

Ha yeah that's actually come up in conversation.. probably not as stupid an idea as it might sound! In reference to my previous post I'm talking about getting rid of them too; I want to see these guys dominating for Australia and realistically that ain't gonna happen while they're playing SA cricket (in it's current state anyway). Sad as it is their talents will be wasted playing for us, for the sake of these blokes give 'em a decent chance with another state.

Oh absolutely I know but he is probably the worst one behind Cossie, hence why he isnt in the team all that often for someone who is quite talented.

Maybe there is more to the Ryan Harris situation than meets the eye. I have heard this possible could be the case.

In saying that, it is a massive loss along with Dizz. Here is hoping Taity comes back in, however with Bollinger now in the touring squad I dont think it will be long into his comback befoer he is raced back into the Aussie side.

Could not possibly be more wrong. He is one of the fittest players in the squad and after being 12th man umpteen times in the last two seasons has simply gone back to his grade club and made plenty of runs and taken plenty of wickets. The main thing that has counted against him is that he has broken down with back injuries twice in the last three seasons. The other factor is that two of the three selectors don't rate Cleary and never have. They are exceptionally reluctant to pick him in all forms of the game and do so only under sufferance and at the urging of the coaches/captain.

His performance against Victoria in Melbourne this season embarrassed the selectors. The only thing more embarrassing for the selectors was their decision to drop him in favour of Rofe for the following game.

That description of his abilities could not be any less apt. He is a steady performer with ball and bat. That's all. Reliable, consistent, honest, hits the deck hard. He gets his two-fors and three-fors. Occasional match-winning gun, no.

Not really, Andy Flower was only one player. Before that SA had a very successful period of recruiting international players in the late 70s and early to mid 1980’s.

Is that correct though? We produced three consecutive Cricket Australia Young Player of the Year Award winners - Tait, Cullen and Cosgrove.

Players emerge from grade cricket onto the first class scene, show some ability and are hailed as possible ten year players for us or even potential Australian players. We've seen it with Ferguson, Cameron Borgas, Cullen Bailey and certainly Cullen and Cosgrove. From what I have seen, the problems kick in once the players hit first class level.

Our players don't seem to improve through their second, third and fourth seasons. In fact, they go backwards. Jason Borgas had an excellent start to his first class career, as did Ben Cameron and Dan Cullen. Then what?

The other issue is that you look at our batting line up - C Ferguson, C Borgas, J Borgas, D Harris, T Plant, N Adcock, S Deitz, L Williams, B Cameron and now A Delmont, J Brown and D Christian. You could throw a blanket over this group of players. None have been able to hold a place in the team for an extended period. Selection has been a revolving door with players rarely given an extended opportunity to settle into the line up, always looking over their shoulder at who else might come in and never able to build up their confidence or prove themselves at the first class level.

Two failures and you're out the door! We'll bring in whoever is the flavour of the week at that particular time. And combine that with the fact that they're all on one year deals! How can we possibly expect stable, consistent performances from our Redbacks team when selections and contracts are of such a short-term, whimsical nature?
