Ryan Murphy

All we would get for Ryan Murphy ATM is a 2nd round pick.

Probably, but there's a reaspnable difference between a second rounder that's 19-22, as opposed to a second rounder that's 32-35. If we could get something in the early 20s, then that might be worth considering. That's if Murph wants to go.

If we could get an upgrade on our pick 7 AND a pick in the early 20s... then I'd say we should most definitely look very, very closely.

Here's what I think the Dogs should go for.

Pick 5 +Moody to Freo
Pick 7 to Brisbane
Cameron Wood + Ryan Murphy to Dogs.

Freo give up Murphy + pick 7.
Brisbane give up Wood + Moody
Dogs give up pick 5.

The value I put on the players in a straight trade is:
Wood - pick 18-20.
Murphy - pick 20-24.
Moody - pick 28-35.

I'd take Ray or possibly the Dogs second round pick in a straight swap. Only a highish second round draft pick would be worth it, as IP said their is a fair difference between 19-22 and 32-35. Especially this year with the draft apparently not having great depth. Anything less we would be better off keeping him.

Id be happy with that deal - would you?

Just a different take on Ray for Murphy. A lot of people keen on trading Murphy want to do it because he is 'excess' since Taz was recruited. We have players like Ibbotson, Foster, Drum etc that are all going to be in their second or third seasons next year. Won't recruiting someone like Ray then place him in their development path, just like Taz supposedly has with Murphy?

Unless Murphy is desperate to leave, we should stick with him. We are only one injury away from having Taz as our focal point in the forward line. Unless we find a key backman, McPharlin can't play forward on a regular basis, and tends to have a greater impact as a pinch hitter there anyway. If we are going to hang on to draft picks, we need to be prepared to give some of them a bit of time to develop before we give up on them.

Ray should not be coming to Freo if he is not going to be in the 22 week in week out - we already have fringe players on the list, we need quality if we are going to improve.

I could see murphy switching clubs and kicking 70+ goals a year within 2 years. I hope he doesn't leave, but struggle to see how he would fit in to our side.

F: Farmer, Murphy, Bell
HF: Tarrant, Pavlich, Headland

I recon that could work, but then you have Kiwi as well that has shown promise in the forward line so who knows!

Loooks like a pretty good forward line to me Reveler.

I think Kiwi is another one of those 'utility' players we seem to go after. Murph is a full-forward and that's pretty much it. Kiwi could be a very handy player, especially if we lose a Taz or Pav to injury, but Murph can add a different dimension to the forward line in a stay-at-home role in the square. Another pre-season or two in the gym and a bit of hardening up under Harvs and he'll be kicking 60-70 for Freo.

The big difference though Chook is that you need 2 or 3 tall forwards in your 22 but you need 10-12 runners to cover the midfield/wings/half backs/half forward. I'm not sure that Ray is the player that we need, but with Cook, Bell, McManus and Matt Carr at or near the end of their careers Ray is potentially the type of player that we need.

No deal. Moody's worth bugger all, probably a third round pick. So it is essentially Murphy for a third rounder plus we move up 2 slots in the first round. The player we have pencilled in at 5 is a 50/50 chance to still be there at 7 anyway.

Let me see.

Freo lose pick 7 and Murphy
Freo gain pick 5 and Moody

Dogs lose pick 5
Dogs gain Murphy and Wood

Brisbane lose Wood and Moody
Brisbane gain pick 7

Dogs and Brisbane both do very well.... Freo get shafted.

2 position upgrade and Murphy for Moody. No thanks. :thumbsd:

Anymore word from the west on Murphy coming home?

Depending on Judd... I'd still give our 2nd round pick (I think #21) for Murphy.

Harvey has stated that no players have requested to be traded, so unless he's going to wait until the last minute, it would seem Murph wants to stay.

I reckon you'd need to do a fair bit better than 21 to get him - we are not desperate to off-load him and he's not out of contract so no danger of him walking in the PSD. If he goes, it will either be at his request, or an offer we can't refuse.

Come on people, I like Murphy too, but seriously he is not going to be kicking 60 or 70 goals a year. He might break it for 50 in good years. How many forwards kicked more than 60 goals this year? Brown, Pav, Franklin, Lloyd and Lucas - I can't see Murphy in the same league as those guys.

I reckon we should be trading him. I'd hate to see him go for anything less than a top 20ish draft pick though.
