This will no doubt be the top 6 for the world cup

Watson
Haddin (possibly Paine after today)
Ponting
Clarke
White
M Hussey

And it looks as though they are trialing Smith and D Hussey for the number 7 spot. Surely you'd rather Hussey? A much better batsman and in my opinion a better one dat bowler. I do think however the selectors will stick with the golden boy, it may cost us a world cup.

Is Brad Hodge an option?

What are we voting for? Who is the most over-rated cricketer in Australia.

Damn that NSW conspiracy!

In all fairness, I don't see why you can't have both in the side. These are guys who are pretty effective one day/T20 bowlers. I think if we can get more of our overs from these sorts of guys, we can have a deep batting line up and get through overs very quickly mid-innings. 2 - 3 specialist bowlers plus Hussey, Smith and Watson is the go, I reckon.

I cant believe Trott let Hussey bowl him out, it was pretty average as hell

World cup, Hussey, but we should still keep Smith around since he'll feature in our team for a long time

Im just of the opinion that the world cup we should play to win, not to blood youngsters

Trott is a crap limited overs batsman

No, Hasnt been for the last 3 Years

Ferguson, give White some overs if need be. You carry 4 bowlers + Watson in.. you only need to make up 5 overs if Watson gets injured, through one of Clarke, White and Hussey.
Ferguson is injured
Is his nose likely to see him sidelined ?

Bollocks. Of course he's an option... the selectors are just too pig headed to accept it. The guy seems like a first class tosspot, but surely they can put up with him for a few months through the World Cup. We do want to win the damn thing, don't we?
Yes i wasnt saying he wasnt worth a spot, because he is in our best 11 in ANY form of cricket

My comment was that he hasnt been in the minds of selectors for three years, and no ammount of domestic runs will change that, and that is a shame

Neither fits the role. Dussey should be looked at as a top six batsmen, and clearly doesnt make the grade behind that top six above (or Hodge for that matter), Smith shouldnt be playing international cricket at this point, needs more domestic cricket and is not ready for a world cup.

Next you will say Michael Clarke is a quality limited overs batsman

He is, and you've got bricks in your head if you think otherwise.

Regarding Smith vs Dussey, Smith isn't being used correctly. He's being used as a pinch-hitting slogger, and that's not his game. He's not a Cameron White. He's actually a lot more like Michael Clarke was when he first came onto the scene, flashy cuts and cover drives, front foot pulls and the occasional launch. Point is, he takes a while to get going. He shouldn't be batting at 7, his best performances in domestic cricket have come at 4/5 for NSW, where he has time to get his eye in before hitting out.

As for Dussey, not convinced by his batting in ODIs, but his bowling is very handy indeed. I'd almost be tempted to play both and omit Doherty. Smith can bowl, he takes wickets, and especially has a knack for taking big ones, but can go for a few, especially when not landing them quite right. Dussey can roll through his overs very quickly and pick up the occasional wicket or two, usually at a good economy rate. Would probably bowl well in partnerships.

So yeah, I'd be tempted to play both. It would strengthen our batting, and probably not weaken our bowling much. I'd at least try to play Smith at 6 to give him a bit more time to get his eye in.

Trott is a crap limited overs batsman

Averages 45 in ODD.

Converted 12 centuries into 100's

Striking at 75 while averaging 44 at ODI level.

Hardly crap. Every team needs a Kallis type accumulator. It's the role Clarke should be playing. Sure it's not as sexy as a 30-ball half century at the end of an innings from White, but you need someone to anchor an innings and be the glue sometimes.

Hard to argue with any of that. If Clarke is fit enough to bowl, then the 3 of them would hopefully be plenty.
And we haven't consistently seen the best of Hussey with the bat in ODI's (except when he made a century), although an average of 28 and strike rate of 88 is hardly bad, for someone who's often coming in fairly late in the innings. If he finds his form with the bat in these next 6 games he could rip it up in the Sub Continent on those small grounds.
