Why is that a key thing? One key thing I think people are over looking is that Hornsby was helping us in the process of finding the best suitor to take over from his role as HPM.

Could be a negative. He would be looking for much the same. I would rather he had no input and we went in with a fresh approach to something different. Why is that a key thing?
He may have just been in there for as little as to ask some technical questions for the committee. I can understand how it could be a negative but we really don't know his involvement in selecting Burge as the successful candidate.Could be a negative. He would be looking for much the same. not sure burge is any better than horsby,
at least burge has been handpicked by dimma, have to back them in on this alone
Why is that a key thing?
It shows due diligence was done and the hiring wasn't based off of pure guess work, rather, we had a professional who has been in the business for a long time put forward his opinion in helping find the best suitable choices for the role of HPM.
Whether Burge was first choice or not is irrelevant, Hornsby obviously put forward a short list of the best suitors and the club went out and did there best in acquiring there services.
Why would'n the Club ask for applicants?!?!...see whats available first before making an inhouse decision...?!?!
Let's hope we stop placing so much emphasis of 'the tan' time trials , for more advanced fitness testing . Every year we've heard of someone starring in 'The tan ' only to see them
Blow up regularly during the season proper .
Agreed, but only to an extent. They're fitness experts for a reason or any Average Joe would be an HPM and they'd be disregarded,Though i am fairly certain their would be a fairly good knowledge in the AFL world as to who was a good HPM just going by a clubs performance plus in house talk.
How do you know it wasn't? How do you know other weren't approached? If you pick someone who has no experience in Aussie Rules conditioning aren't you taking a pretty massive risk?Would have been interesting to see the applicants applying if the job was open to all in the sports world...another EPL applicant...Olympic trainers...who knows...
Again, how do you know this didn't happen?i thought the process of interviewing applicants for a position was a way of reducing guess work...and unsuitable clowns with red noses...
And yet if they push the envelope and it falls apart the club will be ripped apart for it.it always involves a little guess work if you want to push the envelope of excellence...
The tried and true pathway that has made Geelong, Hawthorn, West Coast and Sydney successful??? Collingwood haven't been successful due to high-altitude training. It's because they built a good team and have tremendous facilities..Go the tried and true pathway like the other 17 clubs...or...take a punt on some new innovation/techniques...ie...Premiership Pies with their high altitude training...
I dont...I dont...I dont know...as far as I do know...nothing has been made public of the recruiting process that was involved in choosing Burge...smell of a fait compli here...
Nothing of what direction the club wants to go in regards to the teams conditioning...performance wise...philosophies...training...diet...injury maintenance...
a little something for the supporters would be nice...
As far as i have read Burge left the Saints because Watters wants to go the High altitude way as the Pies did..and we did with Arizona...seems a trend...unorthodox...risky...might work...whose going to say it wont...
Probably turn out in the long run to be a good pick up...Me personally...as a paying and long time supporter...I would like a little more information about what went into choosing Burge...and how the club sees him as a good fit..not a lot to ask......
Another hawthorn link from dimma's hawks days, trust the decision.

I'm with others who believe that there would certainly have been more planning and discussion here than meets the eye. There has been a very deliberate method to most things with a " plan " in place since Dimma got to RFC. Not sure they would go outside of that thinking for what is a vital cog in the clubs arsenal. Happy to back the clubs decision makers on this one.![]()
Listening to the radio this morning, Chance Bateman was named as an exceptional coach in waiting who was at the forefront when it came to players involved in the club on-field and training. If he is as good as they say, then i wonder if a role with us would be a possibility.Another hawthorn link from dimma's hawks days, trust the decision.
And good to hear Matt will still have a Tiger "connection" of sorts in his new role. Great man. Immensely respected by all.
Haere Ra
What connection?
Really weird that he as a departing employee was part of the "process" to pick his replacement to begin with, now your saying he will still be connected?
It's not weird. It's called professional and leaving on good terms.
